Technical know-how, the pioneering spirit of the entrepre-neur and a healthy dose of ambition and hard work – all ofthese were typical of Erwin Hymer. From small beginnings,the company founder, who passed away in April 2013, createda group of companies which now ranks among the leadingmotorhome and caravan manufacturers in Europe and isactive worldwide.

As a young engineer, Erwin Hymer followed his parents’calling, and began working in his father Alfons’ repair shopin the southern German town of Bad Waldsee in 1956. Justone year later, he developed the first caravan – the original“Troll” – in collaboration with the engineer Erich Bachem.And thus began a new era! The next decisive step came in1971 with the launch of the first HYMER motorhome – akey milestone in our long corporate history!

A wide variety of series, models and layouts has been builtover a period of 60 years.

Many of the motorhomes and caravans set standards andushered in new trends − especially in terms of technology,comfort and design, as well as quality and safety. For ourfounder Erwin Hymer, incorporating customers’ wishes intothe development of new and improved vehicles was alwaysa matter of principle.

For decades, Erwin Hymer’s inventiveness and ceaseless crea-tivity has shaped the entire industry. His whole life’s workprovides us with a model for future corporate decisions.

As a result, the concept of motorhoming has always beeninseparably linked with the name HYMER. The passionand professionalism that goes into the development andconstruction of our vehicles communicates itself to ourcustomers. We at HYMER are not only proud of 60 years ofcompany history, but also of our employees, who devotetheir energies and ideas on a daily basis to making “travelin the original” possible.

The two camper vans 500 and501 on a Mercedes L 206 D/L 207base – with caravan-style pop-top roof – usher in a new productcategory.

The Bedford Blitz-based HymerT-Class with pop-top roof offersan extra berth thanks to foldingbucket seats in the back.

From now on, the camper vansare known as HYMERCARS. Theangular HYMERCAR 1 based onthe Ford Transit has a strongvisual resemblance to Americanvans.

The models with bathroom are designed as a 4-seater. They are equipped with a comfortablecompact bathroom with folding washbasin and fixed toilet. A further advantage is the uniquepop-top solution which turns the models into proper 4-berth models. Modern compressor refrigerators ensure effectivecooling however hot it is outside.

The kitchen is fully equipped with a sink unit, an integrated2-burner gas hob and a 90-litre compressor refrigerator(or 65-litre in the Ayers Rock and Yosemite models). Extra-deep drawers and generous overhead lockers make potter-ing in the kitchen a whole lot easier.

The mid-height refrigerator helps maintain the generousfeeling of space and creates a further storage shelf.

The generously designed seating area allows plenty of legroom. The folding table in the sidewall can be readily adjusted to make the tabletop area larger or smaller. It can also be foldedback completely against the wall as required.
