Thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: I dwell in the high and holy place, and also with him who is of a contrite and lowly spirit, to revive the spirit of the lowly, and to revive the heart of the contrite.” Isaiah 57:15

1. Bow down your ear, O Lord, and hear me,* for I am poor and in misery.

2. Preserve my life, for I am faithful;* my God, save your servant who puts his trust in you.

3. Be merciful unto me, O Lord,* for I will call daily upon you.

4. Comfort the soul of your servant,* for to you, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.

CHRIST CHURCH WESTSHORE Pentecost 7 5

5. For you, Lord, are good and gracious,* and of great mercy to all those who call upon you.

6. Give ear, Lord, unto my prayer,* and attend to the voice of my humble supplications.

7. In the time of my trouble I will call upon you,* for you answer me when I call.

8. Among the gods there is none like you, O Lord,* nor are there any deeds like yours.

9. All nations that you have made shall come and worship you, O Lord,*

and shall glorify your Name.

10. For you are great and do wondrous things;* indeed, you are God alone.

11. Teach me your way, O Lord, and I will walk in your truth;* O knit my heart to you, that I may fear your Name.

12. I will thank you, O Lord my God, with all my heart,* and will praise your Name for evermore.

The people stand. The Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Lord be with you. And with your spirit. Let us pray.

O God, you declare your almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and pity: Grant us the fullness of your grace, that we, running to obtain your promises, may become partakers of your heavenly treasure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen. The Prayers of the People

In Peace we pray to you Lord,.* *The people are encouraged to pray aloud their intercessions and thanksgivings.

Lord we pray for the Church locally & universally……*

Lord we pray for the Nation & the world……..*

We pray for the Westshore region……*

We pray for those who suffer and those in any need or trouble….*

We remember those who have died in Christ.*

We thank you, Lord, for all the blessings of this life.*

The Confession and Absolution We pray to you also for the forgiveness of our sins.

Have mercy upon us, most merciful Father; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done and left undone; and so uphold us by your Spirit that we may live and serve you in newness of life, to the honor and glory of your name; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

The Almighty and merciful Lord grant you absolution and remission of all your sins, true repentance, amendment of life, and the grace and consolation of His Holy Spirit. Amen

The Peace The peace of the Lord be always with you. And with your spirit.

Then the Ministers and People may greet one another in the name of the Lord.

Question for Week 30 The New City Catechism

What is faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith in Jesus Christ is acknowledging the truth of everything that God has revealed in his word, trusting in him, and also receiving and resting on him alone for salvation as he is offered to us in the gospel.

(Galatians 2:20) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Lift up your hearts. We lift them up to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. It is right to give him thanks and praise.

It is indeed right, it is our duty and our joy, at all times and in all places to give you thanks and praise, Father almighty creator of heaven and earth. Through Jesus Christ our Lord; for he is your living word from before time and for all ages; by him you created all things, and by him you make all things new.

Therefore, with angels and archangels, and with all the company of heaven, we proclaim your great and glorious name, for ever praising you and saying:

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

The people sit or stand. Holy and gracious Father: In your infinite love you made us for yourself; and when we had sinned against you and become subject to evil and death, you, in your mercy, sent your only Son into the world for our salvation.

By the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary he became flesh and dwelt among us. In obedience to your will, he stretched out his arms upon the cross and offered himself once for all, that by his suffering and death we might be saved. By his resurrection he broke the bonds of death, trampling Hell and Satan under his feet. As our great high priest, he ascended to your right hand in glory that we might come with confidence before the throne of grace.

On the night that he was betrayed, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, “Take, eat; this is my Body which is given for you: Do this in remembrance of me.”

Likewise, after supper, Jesus took the cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink this, all of you; for this is my Blood of the New Covenant, which is shed for you, and for many, for the forgiveness of sins: Whenever you drink it, do this in remembrance of me.”

Therefore, let us proclaim the mystery of faith. Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again.

We celebrate the memorial of our redemption, O Father, in this sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving, and we offer you these gifts.

Sanctify them by your Word and Holy Spirit to be for your people the Body and Blood of your Son Jesus Christ. Sanctify us also, that we may worthily receive this holy sacrament, and be made one body with him, so that he may dwell in us and we in him. And bring us with all your saints into the fullness of your heavenly kingdom, where we shall see our Lord face to face.

All this we ask through your Son Jesus Christ: By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and forever. Amen.

CHRIST CHURCH WESTSHORE Pentecost 7 9

And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to pray:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

Alleluia, Christ our Passover lamb has been sacrificed once for all upon the cross. Therefore let us keep the feast! Alleluia!

The gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with thanksgiving.

All who have received Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; and have been baptized are welcome to receive Communion at Christ Church. If you have not been baptized, or do not desire to receive Communion, we invite you to come forward for prayer with one of our ministers. Grape juice and gluten-free wafers are available at the small table by the windows.

After Communion Let us pray.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for feeding us with the spiritual food of the most precious Body and Blood of your Son our Savior Jesus Christ; and for assuring us in these holy mysteries that we are living members of the Body of your Son, and heirs of your eternal kingdom. And now, Father, send us out to do the work you have given us to do, to love and serve you as faithful witnesses of Christ our Lord. To him, to you, and to the Holy Spirit, be honor and glory, now and forever. Amen.

The Blessing The people respond: Amen.

Sermon Text: Habakkuk 3:1 – 16

A prayer of Habakkuk the prophet, according to Shigionoth. 2O Lord, I have heard the report of you, and your work, O Lord, do I fear. In the midst

of the years revive it; in the midst of the years make it known; in wrath remember mercy. 3God came from Teman, and the Holy One from Mount Paran. His splendor covered

the heavens, and the earth was full of his praise. His brightness was like the light; rays flashed from his hand; and there he veiled his power. 5Before him went pestilence, and plague followed at his heels. 6He stood and measured the earth; he looked and shook the nations; then the eternal mountains were scattered; the everlasting hills sank low. His were the everlasting ways. 7I saw the tents of Cushan in affliction; the curtains of the land of Midian did tremble. 8Was your wrath against the rivers, O Lord? Was your anger against the rivers, or your indignation against the sea, when you rode on your horses, on your chariot of salvation? 9You stripped the sheath from your bow, calling for many arrows. You split the earth with rivers. 10The mountains saw you and writhed; the raging waters swept on; the deep gave forth its voice; it lifted its hands on high. 11The sun and moon stood still in their place at the light of your arrows as they sped, at the flash of your glittering spear. 12You marched through the earth in fury; you threshed the nations in anger. 13You went out for the salvation of your people, for the salvation of your anointed. You crushed the head of the house of the wicked, laying him bare from thigh to neck. 14You pierced with his own arrows the heads of his warriors, who came like a whirlwind to scatter me, rejoicing as if to devour the poor in secret. 15You trampled the sea with your horses, the surging of mighty waters.

16I hear, and my body trembles; my lips quiver at the sound; rottenness enters into my bones; my legs tremble beneath me. Yet I will quietly wait for the day of trouble to come upon people who invade us.
