The author of the gospel of John is a master dramatist. The story of Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman at the well is built up from a succession of exchanges between them. Little by little the tension grows until

the climax is reached with Jesus’ declaration, “I am he”.

We are drawn into the story as companions on the woman’s journey of faith. We find ourselves asking her questions and listening to Jesus’ answers. What may be disconcerting for modern readers is that these sorts of dialogues do not develop in a strictly logical order. Jesus often replies to questions with responses that are meant to provoke puzzlement and further questioning.

The woman’s willingness to engage with Jesus leads her step by step to faith until she finally becomes a missionary for her people. It’s worth noting the progressions of her enlightenment. She first addresses Jesus as “a Jew”, then as “sir”, then as “a prophet”, before concluding that he is “the Christ”. Our journey with her gives us the opportunity to pay fresh attention to our own inner thirst and to renew our faith in Jesus as the answer to all that we long for. PARISH SACRAMENT PREPARATION PROGRAMME 2013-2014.

Sixty two children from our Parish received the Sacrament of Reconciliation last November. They are on a journey and will be fully initiated into the faith community when they are Confirmed by Bishop Brian Finnigan on 3 June. They will be welcomed to the Eucharistic Table at regular parish masses on 14/15 June 2014.

Emails have been sent to these families with information about preparation for and celebration of Confirmation and First Eucharist. If your child is currently enrolled and you did not receive this email and / OR if you are new to the parish and your child is in Year 4 or above and has received Reconciliation and they would like to join the Parish Preparation Programme to receive these sacraments please contact our Sacramental Co-ordinator, Cathy Bennett, at the Parish Office 3870 7818 (usually Wednesdays, but this coming week on Monday 24/3 instead).

NB The next programme will be advertised in August for those children in Year 3 and above to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation at the end of this year with Confirmation and First Eucharist being celebrated in the post-Easter Season 2015.
