Message from Father Pergjini: After the long preparations and efforts for Holy Week, Easter Vigil and the big crowds of Easter Sunday, I am writing few words to thank and pray for all of you dear faithful parishioners. Our private chapel on the second floor of our rectory is a very dear place to me. It is a very prayerful and restful place to pray and celebrate a private Holy Mass. People who walk by during the day and especially at night on Mathews Avenue can see the little light if they look up from the sidewalk, as the vigil lamp hanging from the wall lights up the room. I don’t think too many passersby will notice what is inside the little room. However, I think Our Lord knows who they are, and lifts them up on their way, as the power of His light illuminates our life. The flame of the vigil lamp is lit night and day. Often I walk in that direction, and rejoice to see the light of the vigil lamp as it illuminates the little chapel, and indicates the Blessed Sacrament is present in the tabernacle on the altar.
The little altar in the chapel used to be one of the side altars in our church. There I pray, I expose the Blessed Sacrament in a small monstrance, review the readings for the Mass, and enjoy other spiritual books that lift the mind and soul. Also there in silence, I share my worries with Christ, along with my pains, fears, desires, and hopes. Here in that little chapel, my sermons are prepared in silent prayer before Our Lord in the tabernacle. Sometimes, I fall asleep because of the fatigue of the day, and like Peter, James, and John, I feel guilty not being able to stay awake in prayer. I beg pardon of the Lord, for my weaknesses. He knows everything and understands everything too.
It is also here that I think of all you who support our parish in many ways. I think of those adults who were baptized and confirmed on Easter Vigil. They were forty five adults this year. It was very moving to baptize many of them and confirm on that glorious celebration of our faith, Easter Vigil. In this spirit of thanksgiving and gratitude to our Almighty Father for having you in my life, I begin celebrating Holy Mass dedicated to your intentions. During those divine moments, I invisibly place you in our chapel before the real presence, body and blood, soul and divinity of our Redeemer. It is a very unique moment to experience the power of the Eucharist which embraces you and me, all the living, and those who have gone to rest in the Hope of spending Eternity in heaven with Jesus Christ. In that chapel, I do not feel alone, because the real power of Christ is there on the altar. In Him, the whole universe becomes alive and present. It glows with the vibrancy of His very life. You and I are right in the middle of it.
After Holy Mass I kneel before the altar and say my thanksgiving prayers. First, I thank God for the gift of being able to celebrate the Holy sacrifice of the Mass. Second, I am thankful to have you in my life so that together, we can witness and proclaim our hope in the power of the Risen Christ.
Finally, I quietly leave the little chapel and go out to say good morning to our Blessed Mother in our beautiful Grotto. I think and pray for you again before Our Lady of Lourdes, St. Bernadette and St. Lucy. The church bell starts ringing and the melody of the beautiful and ancient Marian Eastern hymn “Regina Caeli” comes to my mind. In that spirit of gratitude I say again from my heart: Thank you Jesus for so many faithful people who are witnesses of your Resurrection, who spiritually and financially support our parish, for all our students who have received sacraments that they may grow in faith, hope and love! Our Lady of Lourdes and Saint Lucy pray for us! Amen!
