This Township is part of a land t;rant nadc to thn Al^or.n Central Railway,, and the claims are held under the ten? o^ a 99 year lease from the railway company. LOCATION AND ACCESS;

The location of the property is about two Miles and a half north of Hawk Junction, n Division Point on the Alpoaa Central Railway, and lers than a mile west of ''Mile l'39 n on the railway, At th t .ne ttr.Edv/ards opera ted the property, it wns connected with Havk Junction by a road, passable by truck. This road is probably p;rov:n over and partly washed out by now, but, could be restorer! at a relatively small expense, the terrain not bein^ too difficult,

.'JFOLOGY AND HISTORY OF THE A31.A :

The property is situated - approximate..'.y in the middle - on a belt of Keewatin formation consisting niainly of lav; s, Greenstones, schist and tuffs. 7his belt extends frorri the northeast corner of Lake Superior - around the mouth of the .'.ichipicotc-n River - to the township of Rennie about sixty miles to the northeast, The width of the for:ntion varies frorr. ten to twenty miles.

fS'v"". -There is no sharp boundary, but the Algorr.a Central Railway line •i'.v going north from Hawk Junction, is generally taken as the dividing lino lv between the Kichipicoten Area dnd the Ooudreau Area to the northeast. ; This area, stretching froni the A.C.R. to Localsh, on the C.P.R. and Dog H.Lake, has likewise been kno-.m as a gold country and seen a good deal of development. Here "Goudreau Gold Mines," "Edwards Gold Lines" a'decline Mines" opnrated and produced gold in the Thirties.. The area also contains

: large deposits of pyrite.

Across Dog Lake and constituting the northeast end of this belt, is the jj'issinaibi Area which sav; a gold rush in the early Forties and has produced "Kenabie Minos" a profitable gold nine with a daily, capacity of600 tons. . - r

The above short account makes it evedent that the geology of this belt is favourable for tho occurrence of gold, './hile, so far, the history of I-ttchipicoten and Goudreau is that of rich but snail de-posits with lack of prominent structure, the chances of finding an iupbrtant and Liore persistent gold deposit have uy no means exhausted.

HISTORY OF T:IE PROPERTY

This property was purchased by .Ir. Edwards from tv;o Hawk Junction nen in 1939* After a limitet. amount of exploration h e erected a srr4all "Gibson" nill on tho property nnc1 treated ore from open pits. It v/as found that the ore v;ac not free nillinr and that very little of the gold could bc recovered by a:.ia3.ganatio:: . Mowever, several small batches of concentrates v/ere produced which r;r.r.ayed 25. OJ os, 53.13 os, 9i5.3^ 02, and 31^.3'- 02, rospoctively, in gold p:'r ton, according to asuay records. Duo to nctalluip.cal difficultier., ar.d nrcbibly nlr-o because sufficient ore could not be ra nod in open cut, th^ rail! operated only a few ..;o:.ths.

Several f.old bearing veins have bt-.cn discovered on the property. The noct inportant of these occurs in the contact area between qua r t porphyry and schist. It strikes ca5;t-vest across the boundary betwee^ clair.s 3671 and 3672, about 150 feet north of tho south boundaries of these clains. The- vein has b en followed, and - explored by mriorous trencheu and pits, for a dir-tance of about one thousand feet. It is a stron** structure, varyinr in width fron one and a half to seven ftet. It ip silicified sht.ar with quartz stringers rather than a true fir.sure vein.

Kurnerous samples have been taken, and values fron "Trace" to .'i'll.1.75 in fol^ p.t. over two feet ^re reported. Tno vein was channel sampled but the records available are not o.iplett enough to permit a calculation of avert^o lenr^th-'i/idth-valuo. Hov/ever, the conclusion is justified that tro'ld uire ralization is v;iduspread. in pold'v/ere obtained fror, this vein at po.nts over ni^e hundred feet apart.

About thirteen hun dred feet to the east, and lying on strike of the first one, another vein occurs on clain 3&70. Tiic hSs been followed fora length o* two h enured i'cet and explored by 3 pits. 'property was brpvight to our attention by A.Spy when" Peter Rock Mining Co.. h'ad preparations underway for a diamond drill program* The purpose was td gain first hand knowledge of the property in the event optionihg becamts a possibility in the future.

The property is well located as shown in the accompanyiny sketch.

'A study of the complete history was not undertaken. Evidently it has been examined many times and numerous trenches completed. Among past examiners wes Sherrit Gordon. So far as la known the property has never been drill tested.

Eleven Pits were examined covering a strike distance of approximately 1000 ft. Six samples were taken from five pits.

Narrow quarts veins and quartz-calcitt velnlets occur in biotite-chlorite schists. In the pits examined there was only minor variation from east-west strike of the schiet, osity and dip of 60 N. The velnlets followed and in ne place cut across the schistosity.

The veins are narrow, the maximum width encountering being 18?.

Sulfide mineralization varies fron minor to massive.

The relative position of the pits, a description ami sample reults are given in sketch 2,

Recommendations and Conclusions,

Past reports indicate that hif'.i values were obtained from surface pits. However, only one sarule returned a value (0.86) comparable to thooe previously obtained - and this was over a very narrov/ vein.

The occurrences exhibited no strong structure, in all cases the veins and veinlets are conformable with cchistosity of the country rock. The maximum vein width encountered is IB".

There was no immediate evidence of a croec. structure (S) that could act as loci for ore deposition.

The property la not promising. No further work is recommended by us at present.

(1) k brief visit was made to the t'eter Hock group of claims located 2i miles north of Hawk Junction. The property has buen examined several times, •A series of tranches expose en east-west trending quartz vein system in Keewatin schists. The zone is rourhly 7' wide ind is mineralized with scattered to massive F.ulnhldei. . The vein system has been exposed for over 1000' by trenches.

The property has been drilled recently, and several diamond drill holes were ''ound . At-, examination of the- core boxeo beside each hole indicated the rock t^pe to be predominantly Keewatin1 schists, and carbonated sericite schists. Quartz porphyry was noted near the vein system.

(li) A traverse was made northward across the Holdsworth property, now owned by Dupont. The traverse began at the north end of a small lake at Mile 2 on the A.M. R. branch line. A ID 1 quarts vein occurs to the north of the lake fcnd is unclosed by sheared Keewatin greenstone . Iht: vein conoiats o milky quarts with pyrite ard ankerite, anc! occupies o fYiult. A sample SA-112 was taken across a 5 1 nection of tilt vein.

The traverse proceeded for 2700 f north to a high hill composed of tuff. Hock types during the course of the trav^rst included intermediate volcanics, pillov/ lava and equivalent schists,

(iii) A brief visit was nit de to t h t- Josephine .inr located in the south western section of Township 28 Hantro i; 5. The prop, -rt y is ov.-ned by iiherritt Gordon and has beer idle since 19^7,. It is runourec tyiat trit: property may produce apain.

The Josephine is unique, nccordJnn to J. D. X. report. Vol. 40. 1946, in th t the ore is mainly henatitt. and w&t deposited by hydrothermal agencies. Gone manganite ami rhodochrosite have been founu associated with the ore.

The main purpose of tMe visit war to become acquainted with rocK types. It was felt thm, thin would assist ir.tho identification of similar rockr. occurring elsewhere,

The wine buildings art b'-.-ln- :.-.pic!ly attacked by the elementa, and ver.etfttion hac apread extensively over formerly clearfcd areas.
