AndIrespond with, "1 help veterans and their families get the benefits for which they are eligible." Igetquiteafewcallsonany given day with questions and requests, and I do the best1canwithinmyscope. But forthe past couple of months,Ihaveaddedanoth- ertasktomyday:digitizing files. I have filing cabinets full of records, some date backtothe1940s.Wefinally have the proper technology to digitally scan these re- cords forsafekeeping. Alongwith the scanning, I use the vast Internet to find out if the veteran has passedawayyet.Mostofthe filesIamworkingwithare those ofveterans whohave passed away. Ilearn ifthey are in a National Veterans Cemetery or a private one. Sofar,I'venotedoneWalsh County Veteran who has beenburiedinArlingtonNa- tional Cemetery. His name wasGlen E. Liddlefromthe Lankin area. Ithought that was a nice bit ofhistory to note and I hope to learn more about the veterans of WalshCountyasIgo. Ialso see images oftheir headstones and inscrip- tions. As I write this col- umn, I just looked up a veteran and the inscription on his headstone said "A Good Man." Truth be told, itchokedmeupalittleand gotmetothinking. Withall that has happened this year andtheholidayshappening now, what would friends, family, and colleagues say about me?WouldIbewor- thyof"AGoodWoman"on myheadstone?     Holiday ReflectionOn occasion, people askme, "So, what do you do asa Veterans Service Officer?"And I respond with, "1 helpveterans and their familiesget the benefits for whichthey are eligible."I get quite a fewcalls on anygiven day with questionsand requests, and I do thebest 1can within my scope.But for the past couple ofmonths, I have added anoth-er task to my day: digitizingfiles. I have filing cabinetsfull of records, some dateback to the 1940s.Wefinallyhave the proper technologyto digitally scan these re-cords for safekeeping.Along with the scanning,I use the vast Internet tofind out if the veteran haspassed away yet. Most ofthefiles I am working with arethose of veterans who havepassed away. I learn if theyare in a National VeteransCemetery or a private one.So far, I've noted one WalshCounty Veteran who hasbeen buried in ArlingtonNa-tional Cemetery. His namewas Glen E. Liddle from theLankin area. I thought thatwas a nice bit of history tonote and I hope to learn

    more about the veterans ofWalsh County as I go.I also see images of theirheadstones and inscrip-tions. As I write this col-umn, I just looked up aveteran and the inscriptionon his headstone said "AGood Man." Truth be told,it choked me up a little andgot me to thinking. With allthat has happened this yearand the holidays happeningnow, what would friends,family, and colleagues sayabout me? Would I be wor-thy of "AGood Woman" onmy headstone?In this position as a Veter-ans Service Officer, I get todo some good in the world.I listen to the stories ofpast service and I hear thestruggle of today's challeng-es from veterans and theirfamilies. Life is hard. Andsometimes there is nothinga person can do but be pres-ent and listen.I want to wish everyone aMerry Christmas, BlessedYule,and a Happy NewYear.Letus try to be more presentfor our fellowman. It is quitetrue that not all wounds arevisible and you just neverknow howmuch a kind wordcan mean.
