THEY DESERVE " BAND UNIF ORMS"

(1932 B'and Pletllre)

"Ba nd Unifor~s': were missing to mnko the "college band day tour" n really colorful affnir - but overlooking this item tho musicians cer ta inly gnve surrounding prep schools a treat Inst week.

Ovor 3,500 High eehool and grade students in Portage, Wood and Clark counties were cntcrtnined by Director Peter J . liichclson 's college bnnd 1ns t ,:hur~ay wh_en nine enu and a trailer eonveyed tho collegiate group to June· h on City, 1\f11lndore, Auburndale, ?,farshlield, Spencer, Unity, Colby and Ab-botsford. -

Each time the bnnd rendered its first number in the respective cities the s tudents en.mo dashing out of the school buildings in hundreds. Farmers bu~dlcd fe nces, townspeople swarmed tho school grounds nnd kids pa rked on cars, hay. wracks :ind wngous to applaud the musieinns as they blow their way to popular· ity with tho home town folks. ·

T4o band music, tho <lazzling instruments, °" they reflected the sun and tho musieiaus as they marched on tho campus grounds go.ve the students and people a treat they will long remember . • But how much more colorful n. spectacle would have been presented had the band members beon togged in brilliant and neat '' bnnd uniforms" ins tend of sweaters, shirt sleeves and jackctsf

Our band has truly accomplished wonders during the past sovcral years. It has advertised both the college and tbe city of Stevens Point by its appearances in adjoining localit ies. Now the time has a.rrivod for the wtudents, .college and town to do something -for tho band. They need uniforms and they should have them.

Mr. Michelsen estimated tha,t it would toke approximately $1500 to tog next year's band with uni/or.ms. I f necessary the band shou1d be given a la rger appropriation from the student activity fund. Other nativities could afford to bo slashed a few coots per student. If the college could raise half of tho required Oll'\Oln>t tho other half could undoubtedly be raised by subscription, band concerts O.t!.d other benefit numbers. ·
