Dear Friend:
Im sure by now youve seen the yard signs, read a few flyers or
maybeeven heard a couple radio ads about the upcoming ovember
elections!
"ut if youre li#e most hard$wor#ing Iowans with a busy schedule,
Im sure
its been hard to hear more than a sound byte or two or a simple
slogan from thecandidate!
%ost of us &ust dont have the time to get to go out and meet
our candidatesface$to$face!
'hats why I decided to write you this letter!
%y name is "etty "urgmeier, and Im writing you today to tell you
a little bit about my husband, (tephen "urgmeier, who is running to
be your ne)t (tate
*epresentative in District +0!
(tephen and I have been married now for years, and I must say,
its beenthe happiest time of my life!
I first met (tephen at my &unior prom!
Immediately, he caught my attention, and I &ust #new there
was somethingspecial about him!
"ut it wasnt until the ne)t summer that we started dating!
eedless to say, it didnt ta#e long for him to steal my heart,
and &ust twoyears later, we were married!
'ogether, (tephen and I have five beautiful children $$ three
boys and twogirls!

Im also proud to say that weve been blessed with three
preciousgrandbabies-
.ven before we were married, I #new (tephen would be a great
father, andI can tell you I couldnt have as#ed for a better
husband!
/e has always wor#ed hard to instill in our children $$ and now
ourgrandchildren $$ the values of hard wor#, personal
responsibility and love for odand country!
'o this day, I still remember (tephen wa#ing the #ids up early
to do theirchores on the farm!
/e would spend hours teaching them how to use the farm e
uipment, feedthe animals or tend to whatever it was that needed
fi)ing at the moment!
f course, sometimes &ust getting the #ids ready to do their
chores too#longer than the actual chores themselves, but (tephen
was determined to buildgreat character in them from a young
age!
3ou see, (tephen isnt the wealthiest man, but he has always been
thehardest wor#ing, and thats really whats made him into the man he
is today!
I remember when we were &ust starting our new life together,
(tephendecided to move us to Iowa so he could ta#e a &ob at a
hog confinement as a
laborer!
4nd, with a lot of hard wor#, it wasnt long before (tephen was
managingthat confinement!
'oday, (tephen is part owner of that same hog confinement, which
is nowcalled /ooter 5ane Farms!
I #now that, if elected as our (tate *epresentative, (tephen
will carry outthat same level of hard wor# and responsibility!
.ven now, no matter how hectic things get at wor#, he still
ma#es servingothers a priority $$ and somehow convinces the whole
family to get involved!
3ou see, (tephen wants to ma#e sure every Iowan is given the
sameopportunities our children and grandchildren have been
given!

4nd thats one of the main reasons why improving our educational
systemhere in Iowa is so important to (tephen!
/e wants to see local parents and teachers who #now whats best
for their#ids in charge of education!
I #now that (tephen will be a (tate *epresentative every Iowan
can be proud of!
