STATE BOARD MEMBER ELECTIONS

As a reminder from the previous newsletter, “IACCB is looking for a few good people” (Board Members that is) In 2017, we will be electing Board Members from Districts 5 and 6 to the IACCB Board of Directors. CCB Directors in these Districts were recently sent a special email with an application for this opportunity. What a great way to get involved in the broader statewide Association during these exciting times, as well as gain some incredible general knowledge! Feel free to contact us for questions: [email protected]

WHY? You might ask? As our venture with MyCountyParks.com has become an adult, and will soon mature to a stand-alone entity - it is good to move many of our administrative storage and information from the temporary “sub-domain” where it has been housed for the past 8 years. IACCB Newsletters, Preferred Vendor info, New Board Member Orientation materials and the like will all migrate to a secured MyCountyPark.org location as we implement a few initial steps of IACCB 2020 and our strategic planning visions. DOT ORG – for the Organization!

NEW County Conservation Employee School ‘17

IACCB is pleased to announce their 4th Annual New County Conservation Employee School has been scheduled for Wednesday, November 1st at the Ramada Tropics in Des Moines! Open to all new employees across our system, as well as interested “veterans”, this annual one-day seminar is provided at NO COST to all participants. Presenters at this workshop include representatives from IPERS, Iowa DNR, Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, Iowa Tourism Office and IACCB. Looking forward to perhaps adding some “Peer Mentoring” break-out sessions that evaluations of the 2016 event suggested for curriculum improvements for this school. Get those calendars marked! (COMMENT: We note that more than 40 full-time position openings have been posted through MCP.com just since last October – so the attrition and expansion of Iowa’s CCB system continues!)

2017 MCP.com E-Commerce Summit & Training

Thursday, November 2nd at the Ramada Tropics in Des Moines. In order to keep up with the rapidly advancing technology and development changes for MyCountyParks.com, both with E-Commerce (online reservations) and other functionalities – this summit event may well become an annual exercise. We will defer “beginners” to the “MCP.com 101” website training session at Winterfest each year – but it appears to be a great benefit to all of our staff working in the HTML cyber trenches to get together at least once each year to network, troubleshoot and share best practices. This event will most-likely have training/certification for the new E-Blast Communication System, as well as a representative from Heartland Payment Systems to discuss E-connections. Get those calendars marked for this one too!

IACCB Strategic Planning Launches this Summer

The IACCB Board of Directors is looking towards FY2019 to initiate some structural adjustments to staffing and operations, and has set aside some funding in FY2018 to facilitate a visioning process. Targeting 2020 as the year for finalizing these efforts dictates we get rolling this summer! An initial Strategic Planning Committee is being pulled together with representatives from all CCB affiliates – IACCB, IACCBE, IowaTLC, CCDA, CCPOA, IAN, AFIRM and MCP.com. This committee will determine the scope of this 3-year project, expand committee representation as needed, and pull in external consultants/facilitators as determined. Exciting times – stay tuned!

Izaak Walton 2017 Wildlife Habitat Improvement Awards

Earlier this week, IACCB distributed the 2017 Wildlife Habitat Improvement Survey to all 99 CCB Directors. This survey will determine winners of the Izaak Walton Habitat Improvement Awards that are announced at the Annual IACCB Meeting in September. This is a self-nomination process for each CCB, and we encourage your participation. This recognition covers CCB activity / habitat improvements for the FY2017 year only. Deadline for submission is August 4, 2017. Questions? – [email protected]

Seasonal/Part‐Time

- Still Got THIS on Your Job Postings?

If you haven’t visited the Portal recently, and your job postings for some time – there are some that have been out there since May 2016!?, and others that have been running for 4+ months. If you have filled your positions for these openings, please turn them “off” until you need them again – just trying to clean up the clutter – thanks!

SILENT AUCTION BASKETS

And other donations! Has your CCB got a tourism package that you can put together with an overnight cabin/campsite, that is coupled with a recreational activity (golf, canoe/kayaking, hiking), and perhaps some additional amenities? OR, does your CCB have some talented staff/board members that have a craft that would make a great auction item? One of the main reasons that we can keep the fall conference registration costs low is from additional revenues raised at the event via raffles and the IACCB Silent Auction! The DONATION FORM for 2017 is available from the Fall Conference link under the IACCB link at the bottom of any page on MyCountyParks.com! Get ‘em sent in early, and we’ll be happy to promote them in this newsletter!

INHF Hagie Heritage Award Nominees Sought

The Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation invites you, your agency, partners or friends to nominate an outstanding Iowa conservationist for the 2017 Lawrence and Eula Hagie Heritage Award. The nomination process is easy and a great way to bring deserved recognition for your nominee and for the nominating organization(s). The annual Hagie Award recognizes Iowans “who have demonstrated an extraordinary personal service and commitment to improving the quality of Iowa's natural environment and who encourage others to do the same.” The award generally goes to volunteers, but professional nominees are eligible if their efforts clearly go well beyond their job duties. For more information on the Hagie Heritage Award and nomination process, visit the INHF website at http://www.inhf.org/about-us/scholarships-awards/hagie-nominations/ or call 800-475-1846 for a printed copy. Please send all correspondence and questions to Haley Hodges, INHF communications intern, via e-mail at [email protected] or by mail with attention to Haley at Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation, 505 Fifth Avenue, Suite 444, Des Moines IA 50309-2321.
