Invitation for proposals for changes to the IAG statutesand bylaws
Article 16 of IAG’s Statutes specifies that the Associationshall review its Statutes and Bylaws to ensure an up-to-datestructure of its scientific organization every 8 years. Last timesuch a review was initiated about 8 years ago under the presi-dency of Gerard Beutler. It is now therefore time that we againtake a fresh look at our Statutes and Bylaws. To achieve thisgoal, a Review Committee (traditionally called the CassinisCommittee) was appointed in the fall of 2011 by the IAGExecutive. The committee is chaired by Michael Siderisand includes as members Harald Schuh and Ruth Neilan.A proposal with all suggested revisions will be made by theCassinis Committee for consideration by the IAG Execu-tive and possibly the Council at the 2013 Scientific Assem-bly. In this way, we are hoping to get the Council’s reactionand input to the proposed changes before these are final-ized and approved at the next IUGG General Assembly in2015.
With this announcement, the Cassinis Committee isinviting proposals for changes of any article of the Stat-utes and Bylaws. Proposals can be submitted through theIAG website Forum (http://www.iag-aig.org/proposals). Theactual Statutes and By-laws can be found on the IAG web-site. All proposals submitted between February 1, 2012and February 1, 2013 will be considered by the CassinisCommittee.
We are very much looking forward to receiving yourcontributions.

Structural failures such as collapses of bridges and build-ings and geohazards caused by events such as landslides, ground subsidence and earthquakes are world-wide problemsthat often lead to significant economic and life losses. It istherefore important to carry out systematic research to bet-ter understand and manage these problems. The symposiumprovided a forum for sharing latest research results, ideasand experiences in monitoring deformations of both naturalphenomena and man-made structures.
The symposium was supported financially by the Facultyof Construction and Environment (FCE) of PolyU and somecorporations.
