Mineral water

Nevertheless nature allows the emergence of a very special kind of water from the depths of the earth, one that has been enriched with the earths minerals and gotten naturally purified trough filtering countless times during its journey underground.Mineral wateriswaterfrom amineral springthat contains variousminerals, such assaltsandsulfur compounds. Mineral water may be effervescentdue to contained gases. The last statistics are saying that Europe is the indisputable leader of carbonated water market, with a 75% market share globally. Romania holds almost 60% of mineral water resources of Europe. Unfortunately, only 20% of these resources are being exploited. Due to the geologic soil structure, Romania possess huge resources of mineral water, gathered in 2000 springs, dominated by carbonated natural mineral water. Thus, mineral waters in Romania are generally bicarbonated, containing chloride, sulfate, calcium, sodium, magnesium and ferruginous minerals. Sodium and calcium mineral waters are predominant in Northern and Western regions of the country, while within the CenterEast region are found especially magnesium, sodium and ferruginous mineral waters. In terms of their geologic setting, most of the mineral water accumulations occur in carbonate rocks that include limestones, calcarenites, conglomerates (about 45%), next in pyroclastics and andesites (about 25%), in detritic deposits consisting of sand and gravel (about 25%), and to a limited extend in sandstones and crystalline schists. The main intakes of natural mineral water in Romania are located in mountains and in intra-mountains depressions areas, and they are related to the domain where Neogene post-volcanic activity has occurred.

In spite of its high potential of resources and of its long tradition in terms of natural mineral water consumption, Romania produced in 2001 a little more than 760 million liters, representing a per capita consumption of 33 l. Although during the last years the mineral waters bottling industry strongly developed, subject to an annual increase rate ranging between 20 and 25%, the per capita production in Romania is situated well below that of most European countries. In terms of Romanian consumers preferences, Rio Bucovina found some interesting points: Romanians mainly consume Romanian mineral water and / or table water brands, over 60% of consumers are women, over 80% of consumers drink plain water and / or carbonated as such and only 17% of them combine carbonated water with alcoholic beverages.Analyzing the historic areas, the Capital is the largest consumer of bottled water (natural mineral or table water), over 60% of city residents are drinking plain water daily. Analyzing consumption by region, the plain water is mostly drunk in the south of the country and in Dobrogea; the second in terms of consumption is Moldova, followed by Transilvania and Banat. Bottled water consumption in rural areas is limited by the existence of alternative water sources such as spring water or wells, located near the household. Some studies have shown that the healthiest kind of bottled water is mineral water and drinking this water each day can help you enhance your overall health and well-being.It's called "mineral" water for good reason: It contains significant amounts of minerals including calcium. Although the amount of calcium will vary among brands, some options contain as much as 348 milligrams of calcium per liter. That's 44 percent of the daily value for calcium based on a 2,000-calorie diet. It helps to detoxify the body from any potentially harmful substances. The best time to benefit from this process is to drink it first thing in the morning, on an empty stomach. There are no calories in mineral water, so we don't have to worry about weight issues. Research suggests that drinking sparkling mineral water may help to reduce low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, the so-called bad cholesterol, and increase the good high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, according to a study published in 2004 by the Journal of Nutrition. The study conducted followed a group of women who were asked to drink 1 liter each day of either still or sparkling mineral water for a month. The researchers concluded that the results may be due to the sodium present in sparkling mineral water..
