Over the holiday break the old carpet and asbestos floortiles at City Hall were removed. New service windows at
the Clerks Office and in the Entrance Area are also underconstruction. The first City Council Mtg. of 2015 will beWednesday, Jan. 21st. There will also be a Public Work-shop on the Palm Ave. Master Plan on Thursday, Jan. 15th.
Over the break a number of newsworthy events have takenplace in Imperial Beach. Most notable was an auto firebombing near the Bullpen; a drive-by shooting; and thebody of a baby found in a local dumpster. Some of theseevents were covered in the mainstream media and somewere virtually ignored or missed.
Underground Construction on 13th Street is moving alongand traffic on Palm Avenue continues to get worse andworse at rush hour. The 9th and Palm Property has bigger
piles of dirt fill and more soil stabilization jute matts thanbefore but, there is as yet no improved drainage or con-struction on the site. Following recent rains City Crewswere seen doing soil stabilization work on the Sudberry
property and cleaning up silt that escaped the property
boundaries and into the alley. The round-about at 9th andDonax continues to perplex motorists and pedestrians.
The New Mayor; Serge Dedina will preside over the CityCouncil Meetings in 2015. Appointments for 2015 CityCouncil positions are as follows:

A MESSAGE FROM CITY MANAGER ANDY HALL
Recent events warrant a response from your City Manager.....
The festive atmosphere of the holidays and the enjoyment of community improve-ments were tempered by some tragic situations involving senseless acts of violenceand a somber disregard for human life. As difficult as these incidents are for us toexperience, our emotions dont even compare to the family members and loved
ones involved in these heartbreaking circumstances. As a community we mourn fortheir loss and hope they can in some small way feel our support. If you know ofanyone who may need additional counseling, please let me know and I can referthem to some resources in the area. Also, please refer to the following:www.babysafe.ca.govwww.sandiegocounty.gov/me/docs/Grief_Resources.pdf
It is my unique opportunity to wish you a Happy New Year from the Mayor, CityCouncil and staff of Imperial Beach! Our City has been blessed in the past year and2015 looks very bright. Without question, there are a lot of things we can do toimprove the community, but in many ways they are just details. We are fortunate to
be in Imperial Beach where new businesses are opening, alleys are being paved, street lights are being installed, roadway improvements are underway, public safety
is responsive and we have positive relationships with theNavy, the Port of San Diego and our neighboring communi-ties. We have the cleanest beach in the County, a worldclass estuary, an iconic pier, and enjoy both Bayfront andoceanfront vistas. Obviously this could be a very long para-graph, but there is no need for additional cheerleading be-
cause you all know the great things about Imperial Beach. It is important that every member of the community stepforward to make a difference. If we can replace complaintwith action, together we can exceed all expectations of suc-cess. There is a variety of viewpoints and opinions in Impe-rial Beach and people are not afraid to express their thoughts. However, if we can encourage people to become engagedin community building and use our limited resources effi-ciently, we can keep Imperial Beach great and even make afew fun improvements.
Finally, thank you so much for your support and patience. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you andI look forward to working with you in the coming monthsand years to realize the mission statement of the City:
To maintain and enhance Imperial Beach as Classic South-ern California; a beach-oriented community with a safe, small town, family atmosphere rich in natural and cultural
resources.

KING TIDE BRINGS FLOODING TO IMPERIAL BEACH
Residents in Imperial Beach were dealing with more flooding as the unusual highKing Tides hit the beaches towards the later part of December. Streets were floodedwith water flowing from the ocean on December 23, 2014. The King Tide sentwater over the rebuilt beaches and into the streets. It pooled water in lower areas andformed a river between the ocean and the condos along Seacoast Drive. The KingTide also filled up the Tijuana Estuary. Unfortunately, the beaches were closed dueto contamination, so there were not many surfers taking advantage of the extremelylarge waves. - Jeannette Shambaugh
