INTRODUCTION

In this guide you will learn how to replace the output jack. Output jack replacement will need to bedone if your bass no longer makes sound, the bass only makes sound when the cable is orientatedawkwardly or the bass cuts in and out when the cable is moved. Your output jack can break becausethe delicate metal parts which make contact with the instrument cable have been worn out or bentout of shape. Sadly this Ibanez series bass uses a closed output jack, thus it is impossible to fix,and can only be replaced.

Step 1 — Battery

Gently place the instrument upside-down on a soft surface.

Locate the battery cavity cap andscrews.

Step 2

Use a phillips head screwdriver tounscrew both screws. Two #1 1mmlong screws.

Step 3

Remove the cap by lifting upwards to reveal the battery.

Step 4

Gently lift the battery from the cavity.

Detach the battery completely by firmly pulling the fabric connector from the conducting end of thebattery.

Step 5 — Back Plate

Locate back plate cap and screws.

Step 6

Use a phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws,#1-1mm, by turning the screws counter-clockwise.

Step 7

Remove cap by lifting upwards, revealing the circuitry of the instrument.

Step 8 — Output Jack

Lift the green printed circuit board to move some of the wires

Locate the output jack at the base of the cavity.

Move wires away from the end of the output jack to expose the three pins.

Step 9

Locate the gold nut at the base of the output Jack.

Do not remove the nut completely, but leave it about halfway down the output jack. We only want tomove the prongs slightly away from all of the wires to allow for easier soldering.

Use the wrench to loosen the nut.

Step 10

Use a soldering iron to remove the three wires (two black, one white) from the output jack.

The soldering iron is extremely hot. Avoid contact with skin, fabric or the body of the instrument.When soldering iron is not in use, rest it on the soldering iron stand.

Step 11

Remove the loosened nut completely by rotating it counter-clockwise.

Step 12

Flip the bass over.

Remove output jack by pushing it gently from the back of the instrument and pulling it out from thefront.

Insert a new output jack and tighten the nut about halfway.
