Key Challenges

Challenge 2

- As usage and data size

increases, firms may need

to increase SAP HANA

Memory size and/or

number nodes which are

very expensive

Challenge 5

- Planning the right level of

hardware capacity and

pay for it upfront

Challenge 3

- No ‘pay for use’ pricing option for SAP licensing

Challenge 6

- High cost of overprovisioned hardware

Challenge 1

- Very high CapEx and

OpEx

Challenge 4

- Future upgrades are

expensive

Challenge 7

- High cost of physical

data center space

Key Challenges Faced by Clients

Needs of the Clients

Need 2

- Meet industry standard

compliance requirements

Need 5

- Meet business continuity

requirements to ensure

little downtime in case of

a disaster

Need 3

- Data privacy and security requirements as per industry standards

Need 6

- Seamless connectivity and integration requirements

Need 1

- Cloud first vision and

reduction in IT cost

Need 4

- Data protection

(backup/restore) and

retention policies as

per industry standards

Prepare Phase

Identify project objectives, scope and boundaries

Obtain and analyze pre-requisite documents

Define approach, time and

activities plan

Prepare and launch kick-off

meeting

Establish channels for

communication

The Prepare phase acts as a kick-starter to launch or enhance your Cloud Transformation journey. A high-level Plan of action will be created that will integrate the appropriate capability improvements, with the specific business transformation aims, and will be presented to the Project Sponsor.

Design Thinking Phase

Identify and prioritize high level

requirements

Determine the pain points, frustrations and inefficiencies in

their experiences

Evaluate SAP applications, server dependencies, third-party applications,

and underlying infrastructure

The Design Thinking sessions are people focused design and problem-solving method to identify the most important and highest impact objectives, measured in user, customer and company outcomes. The Phase will determine the pain points, evaluate the current SAP systems and underlying infrastructure, and identify/prioritize the requirements.

Architecture Analysis Phase

Requirements, dependencies

analysis

Analyze the current architecture

Evaluate the opportunities to migrate and improve the future

end state

The Architecture Analysis phase provides an opportunity to perform SAP system rationalization. It involves analyzing the current application and underlying infrastructure which would act as an instrumental input for defining a solid architecture.

Page 9: IBM SAP on Azure Assessment

Requirements, Dependencies Analysis

Plan your costs

- Determine Azure region strategy

- Ensure that you don’t overprovision your virtual machines

Decide what can be replaced

Decide what data can be cleaned out

Prioritize workloads for migration, depending on

Business impact and Complexity

Analyze current configuration

Analyze on-premise to Azure connectivity

requirements

Gather and document current SAP applications, server

dependencies, third-party applications, and underlying

infrastructure

Decide what can be retired across all SAP

workloads

Page 10: IBM SAP on Azure Assessment

Recommendation Phase

Present final recommendation

Recommend the appropriate migration of SAP HANA

potential green field or brown field implementation

Develop the best fit architectural layouts as

per analysis

Based on the architecture analysis, a recommended approach for migrating SAP on Azure is proposed keeping in line with five pillars of excellence: cost, DevOps, resiliency, scalability, and security.

Rehost - “Lift and shift” your current solutions to VMs in the cloud

Refactor - Make minimal changes to your solution so it

works in the cloud

Rearchitect - Change how your solution works to

optimize it for the cloud

Rebuild - Rebuild your solution using cloud-native technologies to get the most from the cloud

Replace - Replace portions of your current solution with SaaS
