THE GIFT OF THE REIGN OF GOD Matthew’s Gospel today ex-

pands on Isaiah’s ballad considerably. A

comparison with the same story in

Mark’s Gospel clearly shows us that

here the author is busy teaching this

community of Jewish Christians: “This

is a story about Israel a long time ago;

this is also a story about Jesus and the

skeptical leaders.”

Jesus as much as told these Jew-

ish leaders that they were the tenants

who first stoned their own prophets.

And he told the leaders they were the tenants who would soon even dispose of

him—Jesus—and, in doing so, would forfeit their privileged place of presenting

to the world the promised Messiah.

“And this,” says Matthew’s Gospel, “is a story about

you, the inheritors of what was first offered to Israel.” The reign of God was

first opened to Israel and is now given to the whole world, but it must be re-

ceived as a gift. The first Christians are the new tenants in the vineyard. The

deeper reality of the reign or kingdom of God is that it is available to everyone

Eucharistic Bread

When we receive Eucharist, our response to the invitation “Body of Christ” is “Amen.” That response is an act of faith. We are saying in effect, “Yes, I believe that what I receive is the presence of Jesus.” As Catholics we believe that the bread becomes the body of Christ during the eucharistic celebration. Needless to say, if we do not believe, then we should not receive. When you receive the host, you should not

What is the Gift Card Program Known as Scrip? If you’ve been wondering what Scrip is, now is the time to find

out. Scrip is a gift card center just like the ones at the check-out counter in your grocery and drug stores. The only difference is, our gift cards come pre-loaded with one amount on them. We have a large inventory of gift cards ready for you to purchase Sunday morning at the Scrip table in St. Michael’s Hall.

All purchases benefit Incarnation Catholic School and are used for the operating expenses of our school. Let’s celebrate Our Lady of the Rosary united in prayer! All you need to do is pray the Rosary on October 7th for the following intention: So that the Divine Will, will Reign on Earth. LET’S PRAY!

This Friday in the Chapel after the 8:30 am Mass to 4:30am, Saturday.

A Spanish Mass will be celebrated at 5:00am.

La encarnación, vida y muerte de Jesús nos revela que Dios es amor (1Juan 4: 8); amar a Dios y a los demás satisface nuestras más profundas necesidades, permitiéndonos llevar una vida “a plenitud”.

Cada persona lleva en si la imagen de Dios y posee un alma inmortal. Sin embargo, muchos son considerados como si estuvieran fuera del circulo del amor: niños por nacer cuyos padres son tentados a eliminarlos; personas vulnerables con enfermedades y discapacidades, bajo riesgo de ser abandonadas o incluso asesinados producto de una “misericordia” malinterpretada; prisioneros en el pabellón de la muerte, olvidados o despreciados mucho tiempo después de haberse arrepentido de sus malas acciones.

Aunque parezca paradójico, mientras mayores son los sacrificios que hacemos por amor, mayor es nuestra alegría y nuestra paz. Ya sea la valiente decisión de una mujer embarazada de rechazar el aborto y permitirle a una familia amorosa criar a su hijo porque ella no puede hacerlo, los diarios sacrificios de los padres criando a sus pequeños hijos o la dura tarea de cuidar de un pariente anciano con demencia, cuando respondemos a estos desafíos, Dios puede ensanchar nuestros corazones y llenarlos hasta rebosar de su amor, alegría y paz. Con nuestro corazón así transformado, podemos convertirnos en testimonios vivos de la misión de Jesús: ¡Yo he venido para que tengan vida y la tengan abundante! ©USCCB, 2011,

“La familia que reza unida, permanece unida”. El Santo Rosario, por Antigua tradición es una oración que se presta particularmente para reunir a la familia. Contemplando a Jesús, cada uno de sus miembros recupera también la capacidad de volverse a mirar a los ojos, para comunicar,

solidarizarse, perdonarse recíprocamente y comenzar de nuevo con un pacto de amor renovado por el Espíritu Santo”, dice la Carta Apostólica Rosarium Virginis Mariae del Papa Juan Pablo II al Episcopado, y al Clero y a los Fieles sobre el Santo Rosario el 16 de octubre de 2002. En octubre, celebramos a María con el rezo del Rosario, al rezarlo, recordamos los misterios de la vida de Jesús y los misterios de la conducta admirable de María.

FIESTA DE LA FE Comunión bajo las dos especies Lo común es que las primeras generaciones de emigrantes tengan en su experiencia litúrgica la sagrada comunión solamente bajo la especie del pan. La han recibido bajo las dos especies sólo en circunstancias extraordinarias. Aunque la teología más tradicional nos ha enseñado que al comulgar el pan solamente (la hostia), comulgamos también la Sangre del Señor, el comulgar bajo las dos especies tiene mucho sentido, no porque Jesús esté incompleto al comulgar sólo alguna de las formas, sino porque Cristo se nos da plenamente y nosotros nos unimos plenamente a él. El pan, en la tradición judía, solía suplir al cordero pascual que les recordaba la liberación de Egipto; asimismo, el vino les recordaba la alianza que Dios había establecido con ellos. Para nosotros, los cristianos, el pan es el Cuerpo de Cristo, en plenitud, que se nos da, como se nos dio en la Última Cena y también en la cruz. El cáliz, que tiene la sangre de la alianza “nueva y eterna”, representa nuestro deseo de “beber el mismo cáliz” que Jesús bebió, seguirlo hasta las últimas consecuencias. EXPOSICIÓN DEL SANTÍSIMO SACRAMENTO

Tendremos la Exposición del Santísimo Sacramento este viernes, octubre 7, de 8:30am hasta las 6:15pm en la capilla y de 7:30pm a 4:30am para luego concluir con la Misa a las 5:00am. Esta es una excelente oportunidad para que nos acompañen en oración. Por

favor procuren mantener un ambiente de ORACIÓN y SILENCIO durante la Exposición en la capilla.
