Preface

The 21st IAHR International Symposium on Ice of the International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research (IAHR) brings together scientists and engineers with expertise in river ice, sea ice, and glacier ice. Cross-fertilization of ideas in ice engineering and research on sustainable eco-systems and the environment in a changing climate will result from this Symposium. The 21st IAHR International Symposium on Ice was organized with following financial support at different stages. The seeding money was contributed by the State Key Laboratory of Coastal and Offshore Engineering of Dalian University of Technology, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grants No. 51079021, 40930848) and the K. C. Wong Education Foundation, Hong Kong. The publication of the proceedings is partially funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (Grant No. 50921001). The sponsors are gratefully acknowledged. The papers presented here have each been peer-reviewed by a scientific expert and a technical editor. The organizers are indebted to the scientific committee, and the international group of reviewers for the prompt and professional manner in which they dealt with the many papers in these volumes. The authors, the Committee on Ice Research and Engineering, and the Scientific and Organizing Committees have all worked hard to make the Symposium a success. We wish to thank all the keynote lecturers and authors for their valuable scientific contribution as well as all participants for their interest in the Symposium.
