Project Awards

Best Infrastructure ProjectThis award recognises civil engineering excellence in the design and construction of projects relating to transport; geotechnical; flood; costal defence; energy; waste or regeneration. It recognises the impact infrastructure has on the local or regional economy and the wellbeing of the people and businesses in it.

Community Benefit AwardThis award recognises the contribution civil engineering makes to local communities. This award may be given to a project that, through close working with a community, ensured the construction and delivery of the final product brought additional benefits to the community, for example through a school’s programme or training schemes to ensure employment of local residents.

Innovation AwardThis category rewards ground breaking developments in products, materials and ways of working that not only enhance outcomes of the project entered but also change practices on future projects. The entry can apply to an entirely new method or to the development of an existing method to improve outcomes.

Award for Sustainability and ResilienceThis award recognises the best civil engineering intervention that has significantly improved the sustainability and resilience of a new or existing piece of infrastructure or a building. The judges will be assessing the difference the intervention made compared to other possible approaches.

Engineered in South East EnglandThis category rewards projects of excellence situated outside South East England - developed by teams based in the region. It recognises the significance of work conducted by the region’s civil engineers both nationally and globally.

Special AwardsThese may be awarded at the discretion of the judging panel for projects that they feel demonstrate a significant contribution beyond the categories identified above. For example, the award could be given to a restoration of historic infrastructure or for outstanding project management.
