ICONICS Software allows usage on multiple product linesusing the same architecture, thereby increasing through-putand decreasing implementation time. GENESIS32 reducesthe number of data bases on a system typically from 8 to 4, andallows PLC development software to run on PCs during theproduction process. GENESIS32 also accelerates softwaremodifications to the machines state Jack Porter of ComauPico.

    Project Summary

Ford required 100% testing of every engine produced at thisplant (4 & 6 cylinder engines) along with the logging and trendingof results for both cold and hot testing. Cold testing does nouse gasoline and the engine is basically driven by an externamotor. All fluids are installed and the engine is run through itcycles. Hot testing involves adding gasoline and actually starting

and running the engine through various test cycles. The tesstands perform measurements on the heating and cooling ofluids as well as exhaust gases, spark timing and advancementhrough the RPM range. Also testing is done on the acombustion mixture of exhaust gases and fuel mixtures of theinjection systems. All testing parameters are recorded andtrending data stored via LAN to a historical database. ComaPico has installed over 50 of these engine test stands into 6 Fordengine plants. Ford is also using ICONICS GENESIS32Software on In Process test stands at other facilities.

Reporting and System BenefitsFord uses ICONICS DataWorX32 and GraphWorX32 tenable and sequence the recording of the testing and productioarea of each test stand. This parameter information communicated via the internal Ford Motor local area network tan Oracle based database called POSMON. This testininformation is now available to all authorized users who havaccess to this database from management to plant floosupervisors. Production rates, failure rates and downtimanalysis maintained for each engine production line is used bFord to schedule preventative maintenance repair an

replacements of equipment and systems on the production linesThese performance rates can also be used to manage thesupply chain of components and raw materials needed tmanufacture engines.
