DESCRIPTION

Summary of the work done during the third term of the school year 2015-2016 by students in Le Chéile (Ireland) and Montpellier (Spain) schools as part of an eTwinning project titled "International Communicative Twins" (ICT). The third e-activity in the project, "Dance and Sport", aimed at getting to know typical sports and dances in the home country of their partners (Ireland and Spain), acquiring an intercultural competence integrated in the learning of a foreign language.

DECISION MAKING TIME…

Following on from the hugely successful second e-activity, Food and Festivities, Juan Alberto

Galván and Róisín Ni Dhonncha introduced the third and final e-activity - Dancing and Sport -

to their pupils.

There was a lot of excitement and buzz about this final e-activity as pupils had had such

positive experiences with the project up to now.

This e-activity was different from the other two e-activities, in that, each pupil had to initially

choose whether they wanted to participate in the área of dance or sport. As coincidences

would have it, all the boys chose sport and all the girls chose dance, making it very easy to

divide them into groups!

It was decided that the sports in question would be El Pañuelo and Gaelic Football while the

girls would learn an Irish dance called “Ballaí Luimnigh” and Flamenco, danced to the tune of

“Tu amor tiene querencia.”

As was the case before, the groups’ first task was to elect Pupil Administrators (group

leaders) who would be in charge of communication between the twin groups. This time, Juan

and Róisín decided that each group would have two PAs each.

There was a lot of demand for the positions of PAs, particularly among the Le Chéile boys,

as pupils were aware that this was their last opportunity to lead a group.

After much discussion, it was decided that Irish boys Aromal Murali and Daniel Bandi would

take charge of correspondence with their Spanish twins Aitor Hernanz and Alvaro Lapique.

Likewise, Irish dancers, Rachael Leddy and Gabriele Birbalaite would exchange information

with Colegio Montpellier’s PAs, Jimena Medina and Carlota Iñiguez.

DANCING AND SPORT: VIDEOTUTORIALS / BAILE Y DEPORTE: VÍDEOS

TUTORIALES

otro idioma.

Page 4: ICT Dance and Sport

DANCING AND SPORT: VIDEOS…

And so, after playing the role of teachers in their tutorial videos, pupils reverted to the role of

learners. Pupils watched and re-watched videos of their twins teaching the individual sports

and dance.

Page 5: ICT Dance and Sport

Peals of merry laughter and joy could be heard from the Spanish and Irish classrooms as

pupils practised their twins’ sports and dances. Colegio Montpellier developed their skills in

P.E. and music classes while Le Chéile pupils generously gave up their lunchtimes to make

progress in their twin’s respective sport and dance.

And so lots of enthusiastic hard work, it was time to show what they had learnt!

All performances were recorded and the following videos show the excellent efforts made by

both Colegio Montpellier and Le Chéile pupils:

DANCING AND SPORT: ASSESSMENT / BAILE Y DEPORTE: EVALUACIÓN

KAHOOT CONFERENCE

After parents and pupils assessed their twins’ dancing and sporting skills, it was time for a

kahoot quiz to test what each team had learnt in the theoretical sense!

Le Chéile and Colegio Montpellier pupils devised questions to ask their twins about the

activities they had participated in. There were 20 questions in all – 10 in English, 10 in

Spanish, with pupils from Colegio Montpellier writing in English and Le Chéile pupils writing in

Spanish.

Some examples of questions asked were:

Last December, Le Chéile secondary school won the first kahoot quiz for the e-activity “My

Twin city.” Following on from that, Colegio Montpellier were champions in March, after

success in the second e-activity “Food and Festivities.” And so the day came to see who

would win the final crown in the third e-activity kahoot quiz.

After a very close battle, Colegio Montpellier were the outright winners with María Garcia,

claiming top honours. A big word of congratulations to her!
