In order to analyze literature, you should memorize the plot sequence and what ingredients go into each step.
1. EXPOSITION
The characters, setting, and conflict are introduced.
2. COMPLICATIONS The conflict begins to get more
complicated and interesting.
3. CLIMAX This is the highest point of interest. It
occurs as a result of a decision that the main character makes (an “Aha!”) or an event which changes the conflict.
4. RESOLUTION• Loose ends are tied up since the problem is
resolved. Predict how life will be different as a result of the resolved problems!

3. Climax
4. Resolution

OVERVIEWMade up stories (fiction) always follow the
predictable pattern of a plot.
Exposition: characters, setting, conflict
Complications: conflict continues to worsen
Climax: character attacks conflict because of event/decision
Resolution: problem is resolved and story ends
