Overview

In order to create a sustainable future, Ingersoll Rand is making a profound environmental commitment to our employees, customers and shareholders – a roadmap to significantly increase energy efficiency and reduce our climate impact from our operations and product portfolio by 2030.

HVAC and refrigeration systems, products or initiatives that meet the criteria needed to support our environmental commitment can be part of the exclusive product portfolio known as EcoWise™. These products will be able to utilize an EcoWise™ logo that will identify them as meeting the requirements needed to deliver on our commitment.

The Ingersoll Rand Center for Energy Efficiency and Sustainability (CEES) will determine if a product meets the criteria needed to be part of the EcoWise™ portfolio. Usage of this name or logo in association with an HVAC or refrigeration system, product or initiative needs to be approved by the CEES and the Enterprise Brand Team.

The guidelines in this document provide users with branding and design information needed to apply the EcoWise™ logo when developing and designing brochures, advertisements, presentations, and other communications and marketing materials used to communicate about or promote an HVAC or refrigeration system, product or initiative in the EcoWise™ portfolio.

It is important to note that the EcoWise™ logo should be given similar weight as other product benefits and features but should never replace the strategic or portfolio brand on any marketing materials. It is simply an indicator that the product referenced is part of the EcoWise™ portfolio.

Messaging

In order to satisfy Federal Trade Commission Guides for the Use of Environmental Marketing Claims, the EcoWise™ name and logo must always be accompanied by a product descriptor that explains how this particular product satisfies the requirements necessary for it to be deemed an EcoWise™ product. As a minimum requirement, the descriptor must appear the first time the EcoWise™ name or logo appear in a document and, depending on the medium, the descriptor may not need to be repeated in the following pages or screens.

The EcoWise™ product descriptor should be clear and prominent, and always be placed in close proximity to the EcoWise™ name or logo. In cases where the descriptor cannot be in close proximity to the EcoWise™ name or logo a visual clue, such as an asterisk, must be used to make the reader aware of the descriptor. If for some reason the descriptor cannot be used in the medium of choice then we should not be mentioning EcoWise™ in that medium. One approved example of the EcoWise™ product descriptor reads as follows:

Designed to lower environmental impact with next generation, low global warming potential refrigerants and high efficiency operation.

In addition to the above EcoWise™ descriptor, messaging in marketing materials should contain more specific detail about why a particular system, product or initiative is part of the EcoWise™ portfolio. Additional text might also be needed to basically answer the question “Why does this portfolio exist?” The following is approved for supplemental use as needed:

The EcoWise™ logo can only be used in relation to a specific HVAC or refrigeration system, product or initiative in the EcoWise™ portfolio and should never be used as an independent brand. Standard Logo EcoWise™ standard logo is used when the EcoWise™ descriptor is in close proximity to the logo.

Close proximity is defined as adjacent, to the left, or just below the EcoWise™ standard logo. If close proximity cannot be maintained, due to layout or content constraints, the logo with asterisk is used.

Logo with an Asterisk When the EcoWise™ descriptor cannot be in close proximity to the EcoWise™ logo an asterisk is used as a visual cue, so the reader is aware of the EcoWise™ descriptor below.

Color Specification The prefered color is 100% black. Any shade of gray is prohibited. When on a dark background, the logo must appear white (knocked-out).

Color usage options are demonstrated above for positive and negative (reverse) reproduction. When possible, the positive reproduction versions is preferred.

These options apply to both the EcoWise™ standard logo, and EcoWise™ logo with an asterisk (as shown).

Trade show booths are always branded with the strategic and/or enterprise logos. Other logos, or secondary branding, are only displayed within the panel or display that references them. The EcoWise™ logo can be used in relation to applicable products within the booth and must include the EcoWise™ product descriptor as part of that panel or display.

Other display materials such as posters promoting an EcoWise™ portfolio product also needs to incorporate the product descriptor.

When a product video or digital application such as product apps, email newsletters or product microsites displays the EcoWise™ brand logo it must always incorporate the product descriptor by either adding it to the screen or in the voice over audio, depending on the format.

The EcoWise™ logo can only be used on webpages that are specific to a system, product or initiative that is part of the EcoWise™ portfolio and should not be used on any other webpage of the site unless approved by the CEES and the Enterprise Brand Team. The product descriptor must appear on the same screen as the EcoWise™ logo and must be visible above the fold line of the webpage without the need to scroll down to see it.

Products can have the option of displaying the EcoWise™ logo along with the EcoWise™ descriptor. The descriptor that appears with the EcoWise™ logo must make mention of both the specific product and refrigerant to which the EcoWise™ branding applies.

The EcoWise™ logo and descriptor can be printed in color on a clear, or white vinyl adhesive label.

Brochures, Collateral and Presentations The EcoWise™ logo should not be used on brochure covers, only enterprise and strategic brand logos appear on brochure covers and other logos appear inside. EcoWise™ product descriptor must be part of the brochure content. It must appear on the same page displaying the EcoWise™ logo. EcoWise™ logo should not appear as part of the Ingersoll Rand boilerplate on the back of a brochure.

Presentation slides can use the EcoWise™ brand on pages containing information about EcoWise™ portfolio products. The EcoWise™ logo should not be used on the cover page of presentations or as a permanent element of a presentation template. Presentation templates should always be branded with the enterprise and/or strategic brands.

Video and Digital When a product video or digital application such as product apps, email newsletters or product microsites displays the EcoWise™ brand logo it must always incorporate the product descriptor by either adding it to the screen or in the voice over audio, depending on the format.

The EcoWise™ logo can only be used on webpages that are specific to a system, product or initiative that is part of the EcoWise™ portfolio and should not be used on any other webpage of the site unless approved by the CEES and the Enterprise Brand Team. The product descriptor must appear on the same screen as the EcoWise™ logo and must be visible above the fold line of the webpage without the need to scroll down to see it.

Advertising Print advertisements can display the EcoWise™ brand logo and the product descriptor must appear on the same ad as the EcoWise™ logo. Logo must always be incorporated in a size or manner that does not detract from the strategic brand.

Online ads usually have limited space making it difficult to display more than one logo. In such cases the strategic brand should be the main focus of the online ad and the strategic brand logo should always be part of the ad. Adding the EcoWise™ brand logo to online ads should be avoided since it can make the branding of the ad confusing to the viewer.

Trade Show Panels and Displays Trade show booths are always branded with the strategic and/or enterprise logos. Other logos, or secondary branding, are only displayed within the panel or display that references them. The EcoWise™

logo can be used in relation to applicable products within the booth and must include the EcoWise™ product descriptor as part of that panel or display.

Other display materials such as posters promoting an EcoWise™ portfolio product also needs to incorporate the product descriptor.

Uniforms, Apparel and Promotional Merchandise The diverse use of the EcoWise™ brand logo among HVAC and refrigeration systems, products and initiatives makes it difficult to use on uniforms. Personnel wearing strategic brand uniforms usually work on a variety of systems and products, including those that are not part of the EcoWise™ portfolio. Therefore uniform branding should be limited to enterprise and strategic brand logos.

By the same token, branding of apparel and promotional merchandise should focus on promoting enterprise and strategic brands. The EcoWise™ brand is a specific product classification and should not be added to apparel or promotional materials that already display our enterprise and/or strategic brands.

Signage and Vehicles EcoWise™ branding is always associated with specific systems, products or initiatives so it should never be used on facility signage or vehicles. Signage and vehicle only display enterprise and/or strategic brand logos.
