Idioms
An idiom (Latin:idioma,)is
an expression, word, or phrase that has a figurative meaningthat is comprehended in regard to a commonuse of that expression that is separate fromthe literal meaning or definition of the wordsof which it is made
John Saeed defines anidiom as words collocated. This collocation words commonly used in a group redefineseach component word in the word-group andbecomes an idiomatic expression. The words
develop a specialized meaning as an entity, asan idiom. Moreover, an idiom is an expression, word, or phrase whose sense means somethingdifferent from what the words literally imply.

It`s background
In the English expression to kick the bucketalistener knowing only the meanings of kickandbucket would be unable to deduce theexpression's true meaning: to die. Althoughthis idiomatic phrase can, in fact, actuallyrefer to kicking a bucket, native speakers ofEnglish rarely use it so
Idioms tend to confusethose unfamiliar with them; students of a newlanguage must learn its idiomatic expressions
as vocabulary. Many natural language wordshave idiomatic origins, but are assimilated, solosing their figurative senses.
