High Speed Rail Project Highlights:

• Key portion of designated federal high speed corridor between Chicago-Kansas City

• Segment between Dwight-Pontiac was tested Oct. 19, 2012 – the train reached speeds of 110mph!

• New equipment for route to arrive as early as 2015

Amtrak Expansion:Chicago-Rockford-Dubuque

• Construction to begin in summer 2013

• Goal is for service to begin in late 2014-early 2015

Chicago-Quad Cities• Construction expected to

start in 2013

• Goal is for service to begin in 2015, with new equipment coming as early as 2015

Summary

• Illinois’ transportation infrastructure and intersecting network is the linchpin in the nation’s economy.

• The Division of Public and Intermodal is the modal area of IDOT that deals directly the public transportation and freight rail providers.

• Despite several fiscal and societal challenges presented to DPIT, the underlying goal to meeting all these challenges is to improve mobility and accessibility for our customers through funding, innovation, and improvements to our transportation infrastructure.
