Slovenia is a beautiful country with many interesting natural and cultural treasures. We are also proud of our national heroes like Prešeren, Plečnik and Gallus. Of course we must not forget the great work of nature in our country.

Slovenia is situated in Europe, more precisely in southern part of Central Europe. There are four border countries, to the north there is Austria, to the south Croatia, to the east Hungary and to the west Italy. The official language is Slovene, but in Italian and Hungarian minority official languages are also Italian and Hungarian. About 2.039 million people live in Slovenia and it is the 143rd country rated by population. Generally the climate in Slovenia is continental that means we have cold winters and warm summers.

Bled (from: http://www.wcetn.org/UserDir/Images/BLED2.jpg)

Nature in Slovenia is very heterogeneous, because of that we can show rivers like the Sava, lakes like the Bled Lake, mountains like Mount Triglav, glaciers like the Triglav glacier, lowlands like the Pannonian region and many more. Beside that we have some delicious national desserts like potica and prekmurska gibanica. Slovenia also has some outstanding architecture by the well known architect Jože Plečnik, who built Tromostovje, Čevljarski most, NUK (library), Ljubljana’s market hall and many churches. Of course our history during the First and the Second World War is worth mentioning.

Slovenia for me is a very rare and unique country, with lots of treasures. I think, like in music you also you can find everything in Slovenia and I respect that fact. I’m proud to be a Slovenian.

The Republic of Slovenia lies at the heart of Europe, where the Alps and the Mediterranean meet the Pannonian plains and the mysterious Karst

Ptujska Gora (From: http://members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/2d5645/)

In Slovenia, the sun shines approximately 2,000 hours per year. And there is plenty of snow in winter. The average temperatures are -2°C in January and 21°C in July. Green is the dominant colour. There are many woods and forests in Slovenia and numerous preserved and protected plant and animal species. As a small, beautiful and picturesque country, Slovenia makes a great tourist destination. You can ski in the morning and surrender yourself to the luxury of the Adriatic Sea in the afternoon. Slovenia has 46.6 km of sea coast. The highest mountain is called Mount Triglav and it is 2864m high. The mountain is a true national symbol, featured on the national coat of arms and the flag. It is very easy to get here as the country is connected with the rest of the world by a modern highway network, railway system, international airport and seaports. The population density is 99.7 inhabitants per km2, which is much lower than in the majority of other European states. People have mainly settled the river valleys and transport routes, where long ago Slovenian towns began to emerge, whilst the mountainous and forested areas remain unpopulated. The country's official language is Slovene, which makes use of the Latin alphabet. The Slovenian language has played a special role throughout Slovenian history. It is still considered one of the foundations of national identity. Slovenia is also known for its great wines and delicious traditional food. Tourism is one of the most promising sectors of the economy in Slovenia. Every year more and more foreign tourists visit Slovenia. The largest number of tourists comes from Italy , Germany, Austria, Great Britain, Croatia, Hungary and other European countries. In addition, the number of tourists from the United States is steadily growing.

So this pretty much sums up what this project was about. I will end with this, Slovenia is great, some people call Slovenia small but I say it's cozy. It is a great vacation spot for people of all ages. It doesn't matter if you are young or old, American or Asian, tall or short you will most definitely find something about Slovenia that you like.

Slovenia – our wonderful country, which we do not appreciate enough.

The Cerknica Lake (from: http://www.rdcerknica.si/images/foto_2.jpg)

We live in a beautiful country with many natural treasures, but we don't take care of them, we go to other countries and we comment what they have. But we should first get to know Slovenia. We should be ashamed of how badly we take care of our own country. In our country there is one group that cares for Slovenia and it is called Karantanija. It is very popular among the young generation.

Slovenia is wonderful.

There are many countries in Europe, but I believe that not many are as nice and pleasant as our country, Slovenia. That is one of the reasons for me to write a short composition about Slovenia and its landmarks.

Let’s start with some geographical facts. The Republic of Slovenia, Slovenia for short, lies in central Europe. Its official language is Slovenian and it has about two million inhabitants. Slovenia is a part of the European Union and its boarder countries are Croatia, Italy, Hungary and Austria. The climate in Slovenia is mostly continental, but there are areas with Mediterranean climate as well.

The highest peak in Slovenia is the Triglav mountain. The longest river is the Sava river and the biggest lake is the Cerknica lake.

There are some things in Slovenia that mean a lot to me and several other inhabitants. I refer to those things as our ''treasures''. The Triglav mountain for example is in my opinion our treasure. It lies in the Alps in north-western Slovenia. It's our highest peak and our national icon. It has a very famous national park. Another treasure in my opinion is the oldest vine. We can find it in Maribor and it is the oldest grape vine on the Earth. It is about 440 years old which definitely makes it a treasure. Another treasure is not an object, it's a person. A person that in my opinion really is supporting Slovenia in every possible way. He is Zmago Jelinčič Plemeniti, the leader of the Slovenian national party (SNS).

I come from a Slovenian region called Štajerska. I believe that it is the nicest region here. We are probably most known for wine, because we have a lot of vineyards. Štajerska is also known for pleasant and communicative people.

Mount Triglav (from:http://www.ekonomska.org/pouktv/0708/3bmajstorovics/slike/triglav.jpg)

Maybe our country is not the best and the nicest, but it is our country.

Slovenia is a small country but it has many treasures. It has also many indigenous plants and animals.

Slovenia measures 20,256 km and it has 2 million inhabitants. It lies in middle Europe. It has three types of climate. These are mountain, continental and Mediterranean climate. Slovenia has four border countries. Austria is to the north, Croatia to the south, Italy to the west and Hungary to the east. The official languages in Slovenia are Slovenian, Italian and Hungarian. The highest peak in Slovenia is Mount Triglav with 2864 m. Slovenia has one national park, this is the Triglav national park. It lies in the Julian Alp and it has seven beautiful lakes. Many people walk to it, because it offers nice views, fresh air and healthy climate. Slovenia has many caves but the biggest cave is in Postojna. It`s very beautiful and many tourists visit it and proteus lives in it. Slovenia has many valleys. The Logarska valley, for instance, is circled by differently mountains. It has a beautiful waterfall. Many people can relax, explore and walk here.

Logarska valey (from: http://www.slovenia.info/pictures/newspaper/1/2008/Logarska_168307.jpg)

Slovenia is a beautiful country and it`s worth visiting.

Slovenia is one of the smallest but yet one of the most interesting countries in (middle) Europe. With only 2 Million inhabitants but quite open and friendly who shall help if asked nicely.

Despite its small size, Slovenia has very different terrain. From coast to peaks of Triglav and to hills in the south there are also many different habits and foods. The most known national food are potica and prekmurska gibanica (sometimes wrongly translated into »Over Mura moving cake«). Slovenia is also rich by its history and the fact that it survived many occupations from other countries.

Because of those terrains the country also has developed tourist seasons in any season of the year. In summer one of the best places to go is the Coast to take a quick dip in the sea or maybe a visit of Mount Triglav or just enjoying the beauty of many Slovenian forests. In winter one of the best choices is skiing. A good example would be a skiing event of the Golden fox that is largely visited not only by Slovenian people.

In conclusion Slovenia is one of the nicest and most hospitable places that you can visit in Europe.

Some people say that Slovenia is heaven on Earth. According to all beautiful places, remarkable historical and cultural sights, I totally agree with them.

It is true that our country is small and it does not have many inhabitants, but it is also one of the most beautiful countries in Europe. The saddest thing is that many people, living in this wonderful country, are not aware of its uniqueness. For instance, our indigenous horse breed Lipizzaner is endangered because of many people’s negligible attitude, and also our neighbor country Austria is trying to take over this chivalrous breed.

Slovenia has four types of relief and every one of thesetypes has its wonderful and mysterious places, like for example: the Postojna cave, Škocjan caves, Triglav lakes, Predjama castle, Cerknica lake etc.

http://etrgovina.radgonske-gorice.si/si/izdelek/29#

Slovenia is also known for good wines, which can be compared to high class French wines. The most outstanding wines come from Gornja Radgona, which has reached great achievement at wine competitions.

In my opinion we should care more for our country, but despite many people, who do not care about the country, there are still many persons who have done a lot for Slovenia.

My country is called Slovenia, and it is situated in central Europe boarded by 4 countries: Italy, Croatia, Hungary and Austria. Its official language is Slovene, but its population which is approximately 2 million speaks also other languages like German, English, Italian, French…

It has all sorts of climate; sub-Mediterranean on the coast, alpine in the mountains and continental with mild to hot summers and cold winters.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/sl/a/ab/BabicevMlin2.JPG

It is known as the third most forested country in Europe, with trees like fir and beech. Speaking of national treasures it is good to mention other places and things. The longest river is the river Sava, its highest peak is Mount Triglav, its biggest lake is the Bohinj Lake.

Nice places to visit are also Babič water mill; it is a combined floating mill on the river Mura at Veržej. The miller’s house is on land, the water mill is on the river. The Postojna Cave system is the largest known cave system in Slovenia. It is well suited for tourism, it has paths for tourists, it is a home for ‘’human fish’’ and the Triglav National Park (TNP) is the only Slovenian national park. The park was named after Mount Triglav (2864), the highest mountain in the heart of the park.

Slovenia is a beautiful country with many mountains and forests. We are very proud of our mountain called Triglav, It is a symbol of our country. You can find Triglav on our national flag and on many other national symbols. We don’t have much sea so for holidays some people go to our border country called Croatia or to Greece or Spain. Slovenia has many forests, so we are a very green country because we even don’t have a lot of traffic.

I think Slovenia is the most beautiful country in Europe and also worldwide.

'Slovenia', officially the 'Republic of Slovenia', is a country in southern Central Europe bordering Italy on the west, the Adriatic Sea on the southwest, Croatia on the south and east, Hungary on the northeast, and Austria on the north. The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana. The first regionalizations of Slovenia were made by geographers Anton Melik (1935-1936) and Svetozar Ilešič (1968). The newer regionalization by Ivan Gams divides Slovenia in the following macroregions: -the Alps -the Prealpine Hills -the Ljubljana Basin -Submediterranean (Littoral) Slovenia -the Dinaric Karst -Subpannonian Slovenia Four major European geographic regions meet in Slovenia: the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian plain, and the Mediterranean. Slovenia's highest peak is the Triglav (2,864 m).

Around one half of the country is covered by forests; this makes Slovenia the third most forested country in Europe. Climate is Submediterranean on the coast, Alpine in the mountains and continental with mild to hot summers and cold winters in the plateaus and valleys to the east. The average temperatures are -2°C in January and 21°C in July. The average rainfall is 1,000 millimetres for the coast, up to 3,500 millimetres for the Alps, 800 millimetres for south east and 1,400 millimetres for central Slovenia.

Slovenia has lots of treasures. Three most known are probably the Postojna cave, human fish and the Triglav national park. There's more, but those three makes us most known in Europe and the world. The Postojna cave is our largest and most beautiful cave in the whole country, human fish is our natural gift, and because of that we are very friendly to that animal and we leave its habitats untouched. The Triglav national park is our biggest and only national park, with lots of beautiful mountains and other gifts of nature. Because of all those gifts which have been given to us from nature we must keep our country clean. All those treasures make this small country one of the happiest on Earth, so we need to keep it like that.

Slovenia is a very colourful country. Slovenia has 20.256 km2 but in this area also offers a variety of landscapes which are beautiful and offer life with nature. It has so much population as the principal European cities, a little more than 2 Million.

Because Slovenia is a small and young nation it is not well known around the world. Slovenia has been an independent country since 1991, which had to be fought for in a smaller war. Now each year foreign tourists come from western Europe, as well as other continents, such as Asia.

The main reason for visiting are sights, good food and wine, peace and secure land which is not expensive for most European tourists. The capital city of Slovenia is Ljubljana which has many cultural attractions. For tourist are interesting the Karst caves, such as the Postojna and Škocjan Caves, then the only island in Slovenia on the lake of Bled with the Julian Alps in the vicinity.

Last year Slovenia was visited by more and more immigrants from England, they mainly inhabit the peaceful nature of Prekmurje.

I think Slovenia has good development potential in tourism and can do a lot for its reputation.

Slovenia is not only the chicken shaped country near Italy. It is also a place where you can find rare species, go on vacation and relax in peace, go on touring, breathe fresh air, swim and ski during the same day, and much more. Maybe Slovenia is not the perfect place if you want to eat the best food, or enjoy the spas, but it is a place where you can feel the aura of peace and freedom.

Slovenia has many different types of habitats, the northern part – the Alps are perfect for touring or skiing, some of the rivers enable rafting, this is also the area with the most forests. The south-west area's got 50 km of coast which is well used as a beach, only in Koper there is a harbor worth writing about. The south of Slovenia is Dinaric Karst. It is an area with many caves and rivers and it has got something you can find nowhere in the world but here – the Black proteus, a subspecies of the Olm better known as »človeška ribica« or »white salamander«

Many foreigners are interested in our beautiful country Slovenia. People often ask me to describe my country in a few words. Mountains, caves, the Adriatic sea and great food is my answer to that question. I can imagine how people who visit Slovenia are impressed by all the beauty in our place.

I like my country and no matter that I live here I am often inspired by beauty of nature I can see around me. Please take a look on pictures below, Triglav and Postojna cave :

Postojna cave (from: http://www.postojnska-jama.si/ Triglav (from: http://www.hribi.net/slika.asp?gora=29

People would agree with me that these natural beauties are really something special. Mountains where we can climb, ski or just rest our eyes are something what people who visit Slovenia can see first time in their lives. Just few minutes from here foreign can find the Postojna cave which is one of the most popular treasures of Slovenia. Great and impressive stalagmites and stalactites touch the observer deeply.

I would like to invite people around the world to visit our country to enjoy beauty which is very impressive even for us who live in Slovenia.

I will introduce my country Slovenia. It is situated in southern Central Europe. The border countries are Italy to the west, the Adriatic Sea to the southwest, Croatia to the south and east, Hungary to the northeast, and Austria to the north.

The official language is Slovene, and in some parts Italian and Hungarian. In Slovenia there are 2,000,000 people. Slovenia's highest peak is Triglav. The longest river is the Sava river. The largest lake in Slovenia is the Cerknica lake.

I come from Prekmurje. This part of the country is in the north-east of Slovenia. My country is best known for our dialect. Typical for our region is the folk tradition and customs, like different dances, fairs, craft. In Prekmurje the most known food is the Prekmurje gibanica and bograč. Stork is the main symbol of my country and of my homeland. In Velika Polana are the most storks in Europe and because of that V. Polana is the Europen village of stork. Near my house is an alder forest. It’s the biggest alder forest in Europe. In my hometown we call it »polanski log« or »črni log«, because the alder wood has a dark color. In the forest there are animals and vegetation. Around half of Slovenia is covered by forests (11,691 km²).

Stork (from: http://www.velika-polana.si/vas_storkelj.html)

In Lendava there is a mummy Hadik Mihael in a small chapel. Captain Hadik Mihael was a great defender against the Turks. His body is in a coffin in Lendava. In my hometown the writer Miško Kranjec is well-known. The elementary school is named after Kranjec. He wrote many books, like »Strici so mi povedali«.

Slovenia is a small country on the sunny side of the Alps. Slovenia is among the smallest countries in Europe, both in size, as well as by population. It has about 2,000,000 inhabitants and it’s area is 20,256 km2.

In Slovenia, we can find many beautiful touristic spots. Among them are: valleys, mountains, rivers, sea, lakes, waterfalls, karsts caves, ski resorts, farms, etc.

An important role in Slovenia have the spas, which attract a lot of demanding guests from other countries. We have around 25 spas, which is great, depending on the area of Slovenia.

Čatež spa (from: http://www.atours.hr/baza/upload/Image/velike/catez_4v.jpg)

Well we are not lagging behind other countries even in cooking. Among the best desserts fall potica, gibanica ...

Every year many viewers who watch sporting events come to Slovenia. These are: football, ski jumping, alpine skiing, etc…

I think that Slovenia is a country which is, despite its small size, worth visiting, because it offers many attractions.

Slovenia is a small country that lies in Central Europe and has a population of about two million people. The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana and is also the biggest town in the country.

Slovenia has no cities, only towns because a city is considered to have a population of one million or more and so if Slovenia had a city it would mean that at least half of the Slovenian population would live in that city.

Slovenia is bordering Italy to the west, the Adriatic Sea to the southwest, Croatia to the south and east, Hungary to the northeast, and Austria to the north.

Although Slovenia is a small country, there is an exceptionally wide variety of habitats. Four major European geographic regions meet in Slovenia: the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian Plain, and the Mediterranean. Slovenia has many treasures and they are all worth a visit like Bled, Mount Triglav, the Postojna cave and many more.

Slovenia is a small country with little of everything. It is situated in Middle Europe, and it is at crossroad of 4 kinds of relief: Alpine, Dinaric-Karst, Pannonian, Coastal. The official name of the country is Republic of Slovenia, it has about 2 Million inhabitants and 3 official languages: Slovenian, Italian and Hungarian.

In Slovenia we can find 4 kinds of climate: alpine, Pannonian, Mediterranean and continental. So Slovenia has mountains and it has sea. The highest peak is Triglav (2864m) and the coast is 46,6 kilometers long. The longest river is the Sava and the largest lake is the Cerknica Lake. The Sava is 940 kilometers long but not in Slovenia, here is only one part of the river (221km). The Cerknica Lake is intermittent lake and it can be even 38 square kilometers large.

We can see, Slovenia has so much natural beauty so this can be one of the treasures of it. One big treasure is the forest. It covers about half of the territory of the country, but this is not bad because today pollution is so big we need that. Also people are some treasure. In Slovenia every year there are some festivals or sports matches like festival Lent or Križanke in Ljubljana. Winter sport matches, skiing take place in Planica (ski jumping) or on the slopes of Pohorje or Kranjska Gora.

Festival Lent

Old vine in Maribor

Slovenia has many things to show like the oldest vine in world in Lent in Maribor, but here are so many things I can´t list all of them, so the best solution is you visit Slovenia and see. But remember: »You need at least 1 month to see EVERYTHING. «

Slovenia is located in the middle of Europe between Austria, Hungary, Italy and Croatia. People have lived here for long time as they lived here already in the times of Rome. Here you have it all from mountains to hills, from hills to valleys, from valleys to caves and from rivers to the sea. People living here are kind and talented and are willing to help if help is needed. Tourists have much to see in Slovenia and also much to do if they want. The most visited places by tourists in Slovenia are Bled, Lipica, Ljubljana, Postojna, Kranjska Gora and Koper. In Slovenia many tourists don't just visit places to see something but also to go and ski, swim, hike and do many other things. The capital town is Ljubljana which is also the biggest town in Slovenia.

All in all Slovenia is a beautiful country as it is and I hope it will stay that way.

Slovenia is one of smallest but yet one of most interesting countries in (middle) Europe with only 2 million inhabitants, but quite open and friendly.

Slovenia is a very beautiful country. I can say that it is small, but still it has 4 different climates – mountain, Mediterranean, Pannonia and dinaric. Each of them has different properties and each is unique, but because Slovenia is so small you can experience all of them in less than a day.

In conclusion Slovenia is one of most nice and hospital places that you can visit in Europe.

My country is named Slovenia and it is located in middle Europe. The neighbours of my country are Hungary, Croatia, Austria and Italy. The official language is Slovene, which is a very difficult language to learn. In Slovenia there are 2 million people. And we have good climate. Slovenia has got nice places like mount Triglav, the Sava and the Drava rivers and nice Lake Bohinj. I live in Štajerska region which has got the Pohorje hills. Slovenian treasures are wine and nature. Wine is very good and many people like it. Nature in the Kočevje area is primeval.

I really like my country because we have everything we need and we are trying to keep our country clean.

Slovenia is a country in Central Europe bordering Italy to the west, the Adriatic Sea to the southwest, Croatia to the south and east, Hungary to the northeast, and Austria to the north. The capital of Slovenia is Ljubljana.

Slovenia is a beautiful country with many mountains, lakes and forests. We are very proud of our mountain called the Triglav, it is a symbol of our country; you can find Mount Triglav on our national flag and on many other national symbols. We don’t have much sea so we usually spend holidays in our border country called Croatia, but more and more Slovenians go to Greece or Spain. Slovenia has many forests so it is very green.

I think Slovenia is a very interesting country, it isn’t very big but we have all kinds of things that are good for tourism.

Slovenia is a country in Central Europe and part of the EU. In history Slovenia was part of the Roman Empire, the Holy Roman Empire, the Habsburg Monarchy and later an industrially important part of Yugoslavia.

The Slovenian territory was already settled in the 6th century, of course Slovenian territory in those days was much bigger than today. Somewhere around the 7th century those settlers formed Carantania, which was incorporated into the Carolingian Empire in 745. Somewhere during that time the Carantanians were forcefully converted to Christianity. To sum up the history: Later Carantanias internal independence was lost, even later regained; there was also a lot of pillaging done by the Turks. In the 16th century the Protestant Reformation movement spread trough Slovenia like fire, its main representative Primož Trubar who established the base for the development of our language. Between 1848 and 1918, many institutions, like theatres, political, financial and cultural organisations, were founded during the National Awakening. During this time Ljubljana became the centre of Slovenian lands. Later Slovenia became part of Yugoslavia.

In WWI some of the most important battles were fought along the Soča river and on the Kras Plateau. In WWII Slovenia was divided among the Fascist Italy, Nazi Germany and Hungary and several villages were also given to the Independent State of Croatia. Later the partisan guerrilla forces liberated large areas of Slovene land, making a contribution to the defeat of Nazism.

On 25 June 1991 Slovenia declared independence; a Ten-Day war followed, and yes Slovenia went independent.

Map of Slovenia in 1848 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slovenia)

Slovenia is divided into 4 geographic regions: the Alps, the Dinarides, the Pannonian Plain, and the Mediterranean. Each of these regions is unique in many ways.

About 56% of Slovenia is covered by forests, but logging is kept at a minimum to preserve natural diversity and to keep recreation and tourism as high as possible for obvious reasons. There is a wide variety of animal life present, from deer, hare, boar, horse to fox, jackal, wild cat and many others.

There is a lot about Slovenia that one can say, but there is never enough time, so I’m only going to add: Slovenia is a beautiful country worth visiting.
