‘For ever, O Lord, Thy Word is settled

in Heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto

all generations: Thou hast

established the earth, and it abideth’ (Psalm 119:89-90).

Constant There is a lot for which we can be thankful, especially the availability of Bibles. In the midst of much change, God’s Word is constant; His promises are as real and relevant for today as when they were written. We are thankful that the sale of Bibles in Real Life is also constant. It is lovely when parents bring enthusiastic children into the shop to choose their first Bible. Some may choose a Bible for a friend they are witnessing to, or for a couple getting married. Many young people receive Bibles purchased from us as a Sunday School prize or a Confirmation Gift and older people often look for Bibles with larger sized print. Praise God For the constant sale of Bibles. For the Sunday Schools who bought their prizes in Real Life. For all the work Sharon did with the new computer system.

Please Pray That God will speak through His Word. For wisdom with customers, especially those who are distressed. For help in using the new computer system. For God’s touch on Letitia.

‘But if our Gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost’ (2 Corinthians 4:3).

Colleagues and Companions who Care As we work in Real Life, our colleagues soon become our companions. We are all part of God’s family who not only look out for each other but also for our customers. This may simply be helping people find what they

are looking for or it may be giving a

little time to a customer who is distressed or needs a listening ear. Sometimes there is the opportunity to pray with such customers and other times we can pray for them. At the end of July both current and previous staff and volunteers met for a meal to mark Letitia’s retirement and Miriam having stepped down from helping in the

shop each week. Everyone enjoyed a lovely evening

catching up with friends. We still miss Letitia and Miriam and, while we now have Linda with us, we are looking for God’s provision of new voluntary staff. Computer Systems This summer we have been extremely grateful for the help of Linda’s daughter, Sharon. She has worked

conscientiously with the new computer system, correcting data for all the Bibles, books, DVDs and CDs in the shop. We are nearly ready to start using the new system and trust that God will help as we adapt to this change. Joy Loane

‘Be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord’ (I Corinthians 15:58). Partnership in the Gospel We are privileged to have a group of dedicated volunteers who give of their time very sacrificially and run the shop very efficiently from day to day. Their commitment and willing service enable the shop to be a significant witness in Cavan. We are very grateful to Joy Loane and the staff of Real Life for their invaluable assistance in providing stock. Alice Irwin draws up a three-monthly workers’ rota and this is excellent. John Johnston works in the shop every Tuesday and brings stock and books which have been ordered from Real Life. I spend a lot of time co-ordinating the work and overseeing the volunteers. Prayer is a most vital part of our ministry and we express our thanks to those who pray faithfully for the witness of the bookshop. Reaching out with the Gospel Andrew McCausland took a marquee and bookstall to the Virginia Show. A lot of free literature was distributed. Andrew, Victor Niblock and a team of willing volunteers had a stand at the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan, Tullamore, County Offaly from 18 to 21 September. This was a great opportunity to witness to thousands of people. A report on this event will be in the next issue of Praise and Prayer (DV).

Sharing the Gospel As Bibles, books and other Christian resources are sold, we do not know who will receive them or who will have access to them, but we do know that God’s Word will not return to Him void. The Sunday School teaching material we sell has the potential to help change and mould young people and we encourage our Sunday School teachers who have such an important role. In August I brought a bookstall to the Kilmore Hotel for a Ladies’ Conference organised by the House of Grace Church. We were encouraged by the number of Bibles and books sold. A variety of customers visit the shop including those from different nationalities. Some come to share problems while others are searching for guidance, advice and spiritual help. The staff value prayer for wisdom to listen and respond in a meaningful way to the needs of people and share the Gospel with them. Praise and Thanks The support of local churches. Resources available for customers. That Sunday School materials benefit young people spiritually. An open door of opportunity. Faithful voluntary staff.

Evening of Gospel Music and Singing Our Gospel Evening in

Kilmore Hall on 14 September was attended by a great crowd of people. Ballybay Country Gospel Group, Merlin Morton and Joy Boyd used their talents and gifts to the glory of God. The Kilmore Cathedral Choir, led by Dean Nigel Crossey, to whom we express our appreciation, presented the Gospel in song in a very meaningful way. The compere for the evening was Walter Pringle and a lovely supper was served. It was a very uplifting and enjoyable evening which was a real blessing to all who attended. On behalf of the staff we express our thanks to all who contributed so generously to the work of the bookshop. Our Vision for the Future We are grateful for opportunities to bring Christian resources to church functions. We provide a variety of resources to suit people of all ages and we are available to visit local churches, events in the community and places further afield. If you feel we could assist in any way please contact us and it will be a privilege to respond. Our vision is to make our resources available not only to people who visit the shop, but also to people in the wider community. Pray for The shop to remain as a faithful witness in the Cavan area. That God would bless and encourage all the voluntary workers. Sensitivity, divine appointments and wisdom with customers. Guidance in planning outreach events. More opportunities to bring bookstalls to events. Good health and protection for staff. God’s presence and blessing for staff who are unwell and also their families. Henry Jordan

Sharing the Gospel ‘So shall My Word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it’ (Isaiah 55:11). The words of this verse of Scripture motivate us to do all that we can to bring the message of the Gospel to Irish people. Over the summer months we participated in three months of outreach with teams.

In all of the outreaches we were conscious of the importance of good literature being left in people’s homes where they can read a clear presentation of the Gospel. This summer we spent more time in follow-up work and we believe that this is so important in the future of our Mission. The Postal Distribution in Inishowen gave us more time to visit homes where we had the privilege of sharing the Gospel, reading the Bible and praying with people. We praise God for people who have been helped as a result of our visitation and for those who show evidence of change as a result of the work of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Thank you for your faithfulness in the place of prayer. Joan McAlister

The distribution in Donegal of the booklet entitled Hope in a Troubled World to 15 200 homes is part of the ongoing vision of IEB to place a copy of the booklet in every home in the Republic of Ireland.

To date, 663 500 copies of the booklet have already been RECEIVED in homes in counties Clare, Cork, Galway, Kerry, Laois, Offaly, Sligo, Leitrim, Mayo, Tipperary and Limerick. We thank God for those who have READ the booklet.

We have been greatly encouraged to receive REPLY slips from many who have read it. The REQUESTS for Bibles, New Testaments, literature explaining the way of salvation, booklets and tracts, are testimony to God’s blessing on the Postal Distribution project. We leave the RESULTS of this effort to reach the men, women and children of Ireland with the Gospel in the hands of our merciful Saviour. We are determined, as the Lord enables and provides the necessary resources, to complete the task to which He has called us. We will pray on and do what we can to ensure that the people in the remaining fifteen counties of the Republic will soon be

reached and receive a copy of this Gospel booklet. Will you, dear friend, partner with us in this great task? Working together we can make a difference. Prayer Points For the people who have read the booklet, that the Lord will awaken them to their need of the Saviour. For those who requested Bibles, that as they read God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will convict them of their sin and draw them to Christ. That the people in the counties yet to be reached by the Postal Distribution of Hope in a Troubled World will soon receive a copy of the booklet. Dick and Mary Keogh

POSTAL DISTRIBUTION IEB FOCUS ON IRELAND UPDATE 2012-2016 No longer Hoping booklets distributed to 1.79 million homes in every county in the Republic of Ireland. 2017 Hope in a Troubled World booklets distributed to 663 500 homes in eleven counties in the Republic.

2018 Hope in a Troubled World booklets distributed to 15 200 homes in Inishowen, County Donegal. OUR VISION IN IEB To continue distribution of Hope in a Troubled World so that all the remaining homes will receive a copy of this booklet.

Oh, it is hard work and exhausting work, is this rescuing of men and women from the yawning waves of temporal and eternal destruction, and the landing of them in safety at the Redeemer’s feet; but it is, nevertheless, the most glorious and Divine employment that can engage the

powers of any of the inhabitants of God’s universe. ON THEN TO THE RESCUE! (General William Booth, Salvation Army).

We thank God for the wonderful privilege of reaching people through our Postal Distribution since 2012, the latest being in Inishowen which is a large peninsula. IEB has been involved in outreach in this part of Donegal for twelve years, visiting as many homes as possible and hosting Gospel Evenings. There are many remote and

isolated places which are impossible to access on foot, so in August 2018 IEB undertook a Postal Distribution of 15 200 booklets, Hope in a Troubled World by Dick Keogh. These booklets were packaged in envelopes, with a label ‘Good News 4 U’ on the front.

Each envelope also contained a

lovely flyer with details of our Gospel Evenings in six venues around Inishowen. Our team members commenced their personal outreach in the same week as the postal workers were distributing the envelopes. As team members visited shops to put up posters and also visited homes in the area, they were delighted to observe that many envelopes had already been delivered. They also encountered some postal workers in the process of delivering the envelopes and it was wonderful to experience this first-hand. We thank God for the commitment of the Irish Postal Service whose postal workers carried out a very professional job in delivering these booklets which clearly explain the way of salvation. Joan McAlister

£120 or 135 Euro will pay for the cost of printing and postage of booklets

to 1000 homes in the Republic of Ireland.

Achill and Belmullet Outreach 19-26 March 2018 7 team members 6 Care Centre Meetings 2 Cottage Meetings 150 homes visited and booklets distributed God blessed us with a wonderful week in County Mayo. We visited three care centres in Achill and three in Belmullet. We are always given a very warm welcome by staff and residents and their attention was excellent. It was great to have John McLoughlin, a man well known in the area, to help with the singing as he accompanied us on his guitar. The ministry in song and Bible talks by Maurice Patterson touched the hearts of those who listened and they expressed their appreciation. We also visited contacts to renew friendship with them. We were privileged to read the Bible and pray with people in their homes. I believe it was a special week for all of us. Philip Hawe

Tuesday Outreaches Tuesday mornings are spent in the Cavan Christian Bookshop where I enjoy many meaningful

conversations with different people. The afternoons have been spent reaching out into new areas - Ballinagh, Crossdoney and Arva in County Cavan, plus Drumlish, Ballinamuck, Ballinalee and Aughnacliffe in County Longford. I have been encouraged by many one-to-one conversations. Gospels of John have been distributed along with a variety of Dick Keogh’s booklets. People from other nationalities have received literature in their own language and bookmarks promoting Cavan Christian Bookshop, plus Bible verse bookmarks were distributed.

Praise Evenings Two Praise Evenings have been held in Dorrians’ Hotel, Ballyshannon. On Saturday 7 April, seventeen people were present and we enjoyed Stephen Harris who sang and played the accordion and Martin Kelly who spoke. People helped themselves to free Gospel literature from the stand and a Christian man received a Praise and Prayer magazine. On Saturday 5 May, we enjoyed Donal Gallagher singing and Matt Tuttlebee who spoke on ‘Freedom in Christ’ and ‘Following Christ’. We were greatly encouraged by a lady who came to the bookstall afterwards to say it was her first time to ever attend anything like that. She received a Gospel of John and we pray that she may realise her need of salvation. We enjoyed a time of fellowship in the local nursing home in Bundoran on Saturday 18 August at 2pm when fifteen residents were present.

Marina Hassard and Shirley McClean led singing and I spoke on the theme ‘Turn to Christ’. At 7.30pm we met in Bundoran Community Centre where eleven people were present. Music was provided by Marina and Shirley, and I brought the message. Rev Richard Beadle, a Church of Ireland curate in Bundoran, shared his testimony. Croagh Patrick Booklets by Dick Keogh, Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland and Hope in a Troubled World were distributed. On Saturday 200 booklets were handed to pilgrims. At 3.30am on Sunday I commenced distributing literature to pilgrims coming down the mountain. We enjoyed meaningful conversations. Prayer Points For the possibility of future outreach work in Dungloe and Galway. For ongoing Praise Evenings including those in nursing homes. For personal wisdom, health and strength, and family salvation.

‘Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I

should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable

riches of Christ’ (Saint Paul:

Ephesians 3:8). Literature Ministry Having been involved in outreach for over

forty years, we are convinced of the importance of the availability of suitable Gospel literature. With this in mind, Cherith Gospel Outreach Trust was established. It has been our privilege to write, as God enabled, and to provide Gospel booklets and tracts to evangelists, outreach teams, churches and fellowships. Some of our literature is localised: for instance, booklets on Achill Island, Belmullet and Croagh Patrick; tracts on Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Maghera, Armagh and Enniskillen.

We have also been able to provide Gospel literature to the organisers of many large evangelistic efforts. For example, 1.79 million copies of No Longer Hoping were distributed by IEB through the postal service to homes in the Republic of Ireland. The Postal Distribution of a similar amount of copies of Hope in a Troubled World to homes in every province, county, parish, city, town, village and rural area in the Republic is part of IEB’s vision of reaching the people of Ireland with the Gospel message. Both of these booklets are also being distributed in Northern Ireland by OMS.

No Longer Hoping is available in the following languages: Irish, English, Spanish, French, Portuguese and Polish. Large quantities of the booklets have been used overseas. New Life in Luke has been translated into the Hindi language and is currently being distributed in India.

Online Evangelism Our website, cherithgospel.org is a further means of proclaiming the Gospel to precious needy souls. There are currently thirty-seven articles on the site. These are all available for free download. We have been encouraged by the number of ‘hits’, and by the fact that people from many parts of the world have already accessed the site. A number of people, some from overseas, who have browsed the site have been in touch with us through the online contact form, requesting Gospel literature and Bibles. Something to Consider “Why are only ones and twos saved? Not because of any decree to save ones and twos only, but because only ones and twos go out to save them. A crowd that understands its business, and knows how to take hold of God, and how to deal with men, will catch a crowd.” (General William Booth, The Salvation Army).

Dick and Mary Keogh Reaching out from Tipperary

John Johnston Sharing the Good News ‘Do the work of an evangelist’ (2 Timothy 4:5).

God is faithful in every situation. Thank you for praying for us and our work in Scotland. We have seen lives changed by the power of Jesus and pray for more souls to be reached. Recently I was asked by friends to be involved in a work in the west of Scotland. Pray for this new venture. We have so many opportunities in Edinburgh and surrounding areas.

Wesley was asked to preach the Gospel at two funerals, where no Gospel witness would have been possible otherwise. Souls were touched and many attended. Please pray for these families. We will continue to support and help them, as they need the Lord Jesus in their lives. Pray for safety in travelling many miles to meet contacts and families who have no Gospel contact. So many are in need of a shepherd to show them the way of eternal life. We pray for each and every one; that you will know God's strength in the weeks and months ahead. Yours sincerely in the Lord, Wesley and family. Thank you for your continued prayers for us. Wesley and Thalia Mitchell, 28 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, EH1 1ES PAGE 5 WINTER 2018

It was a cold day in Kingscourt, Bailieborough and Ballyjamesduff. By four o’clock in Ballyjamesduff the snow was falling so crowds were much reduced. This obviously affected the amount of literature distributed. We handed out 600 Hope in a Troubled World booklets and fifty children’s bookmarks. People were very respectful and pleased to receive what we offered. Team members noted that several recipients commented that the title of this year’s booklet really struck a personal chord. Our prayer is that the Holy Spirit, in God’s will and time, will move in the hearts of these dear folk who are clearly struggling with life’s circumstances. David and Stephanie Hobson, Harry and Valerie Douglas In Clones, Killeshandra and Ballyconnell the team distributing literature was very well received and many Hope in a Troubled World booklets were accepted. Some very sincere conversations about the Lord took place. Maxwell Cherry

On a very cold, dry Saint Patrick’s Day, Norman Wilson and I visited Carrickmacross and Ballybay to distribute booklets. The booklets were well received by all and we had a few good

conversations. We pray that people will read the booklets, that the Holy Spirit will work in many hearts and lives and that they will respond to the message of the Gospel. Leslie Forster It was very cold in Monaghan, with the crowds slightly down on previous years. There was some interest in the literature and a few people engaged in conversation. Most parents allowed the children to accept the bookmarks. Alison Farquhar Charlie Forsythe, William Stewert and I travelled to Monaghan. We distributed 380 booklets. We were pleased to meet up with six others handing out Gospel literature. Please continue to pray for all those who accepted the booklet containing the Gospel message, as there is very little influence of a spiritual nature coming from the parade. Jim Davison

‘The Lord said unto the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may

be filled’ (Luke14:23). In glorious sunshine we had the opportunity again of distributing Gospel booklets, In a Troubled World there is Hope, and invitations to Music and Friendship Evenings in our area. Jim and Dorothy Malseed We were delighted to welcome the IEB team. The Gospel Evenings in Milford, Rathmullan, Rosnakill and Kilmacrenan were well attended by both sections of the community and a real sense of the Lord’s presence was evident. Graham Murphy, John Porter and Neil Shaw blessed us with special music and singing. Gerry Burns, Ricky Henry and John Mulhern shared anointed messages from the Word of God. As a result of the ministry in Word and song God ministered to people who were challenged, encouraged and blessed. Bert and Marie Anderson It was a privilege to bring messages at two venues, Milford and Rosnakill. We had two excellent nights with a good number of unsaved people listening to God’s Word. God is continually working greatly in people’s lives. When we know the grace shown to us by the Saviour, surely we will covet the same for these dear people. We are all labourers together in this great work of God. John Mulhern

We have done outreach in Rathmullan many times but this year was more positive. We met different people with health problems and were able to speak and pray with them. We pray that all the literature distributed will bear much fruit. Jack and Alice Irwin We give thanks to God for the privilege of being part of the outreach in the Fanad and Rathmullan areas, and for open doors and friendships being built. We pray there will be open minds and open hearts to the Word of God that was distributed and the truth shared at the meetings. We thank the clergy in Fanad who are supportive of our work. Eric and Olive Borland Ian and I were blessed to share in outreach on the western side of Mulroy Bay. Most days we had encouraging conversations. Repeat visitation of this area means we have been able to build friendships. We continue to pray that literature will be read and that these communities will be touched by the power of the Holy Spirit. Joe Kerr

I distributed literature around the Milford, Kerrykeel and Kindrum areas. Blessed with sunshine and team fellowship, it was a joy to put literature into homes, and our prayer is that the Lord would, by His Holy Spirit, draw the readers to our Saviour. People showed gratitude for the literature as I knocked the doors. Only eternity will reveal the outcome of this missionary work. Bertie McCord It is a wonderful privilege and opportunity to reach many people with the message of the Gospel. It is rewarding to see people gladly receive the booklets. We were encouraged that people, who received invitations at their homes, attended the Gospel Evenings. We thank God for His faithfulness to us and for the privilege of serving Him. We appreciate very much your prayers. William Alexander Prayer Points That the Holy Spirit will speak to hearts. That those who read the Gospel leaflets and attended the Gospel Evenings will hear the Word, receive it and be saved.

Roscommon/Mayo/Sligo/Leitrim Outreach 21-27 June 2018 6 team members 10 Care Centre Meetings 865 homes visited and booklets distributed

Team members visited eight care centres in Sligo, Boyle, Mohill, Castlerea and Ballaghaderreen where there was a warm, welcoming atmosphere. 250 residents, staff and visitors listened attentively to the Gospel through the words of the hymns and from the Word of God. Team members sang several hymns. Some residents had requests for particular hymns which was great to see. Some participated as we sang well-known hymns. We thank God for opening these doors. In some of these areas there is little Gospel witness and we were glad of the privilege to scatter the good seed of the Word of God. Gilbert Beck It was a great privilege to bring the Gospel to some of the people in Roscommon and especially to people in care homes. I play the guitar and it is great to bring the message in song and Word to the residents. Ian Kennedy

‘Let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not’

(Galatians 6:9). We spent time in the Swinford area as part of a team of six. We visited a nursing home where the residents were so appreciative of us singing and speaking. So many joined in singing with us. We feel this is such a good way of reaching older folk and the staff as well. On Sunday morning we visited Calvary Church in Charlestown. It was a great opportunity to encourage the congregation there. Jack and Alice Irwin

We enjoyed visiting homes in Aclare, Sligo, Knock and Ballyhaunis. It is a huge privilege to leave the Word of God with such needy people. We were challenged by the great need to bring the Gospel message to people in these places. We had great times of fellowship and

prayer. We enjoyed lovely fellowship with local Christians at the service in Charlestown where James McMaster was the speaker. At care centres residents, day visitors and staff joined in singing and listened attentively to our speaker, Gilbert Beck, who explained clearly and simply the way of salvation. Philip Hawe Prayer Points That God will work in the lives of people who read the literature and draw them to Himself. That people will think about what they have heard and come into a living relationship with the Lord.

Belmullet Outreach 21-28 July 2018 ‘Bearing precious seed’ (Psalm 126:6). 5 team members 2 Gospel Evenings 4 Care Centre Meetings 1400 homes visited and booklets distributed It was a privilege to be back in Belmullet to help in the outreach and share fellowship with the team. There were five of us involved in the outreach. We were blessed with good weather for most of the door-to-door visitation as we invited people to the Gospel Evenings and distributed Dick Keogh’s leaflets, In a Troubled World there is Hope. It was great to get around the peninsula, Belmullet town and some of the nearby area and meet contacts from previous visits. We were encouraged by a really good reception of the literature and had some good conversations. Our visits to three care centres were most encouraging as the folks joined in singing the Gospel songs and listened well as we shared some Bible verses. We really appreciate Neil Shaw coming to sing at each of these venues and at the Gospel Evenings. We are so grateful to the management and staff at

these care centres for having us and the warm welcome we receive from them. At the Gospel Evenings we felt God’s blessing and trust that He will really bless those who attended. Robert and Sharon Swanton Prayer points That God will use the seed of His Word to draw people to Himself for salvation. For guidance regarding future outreach in Belmullet and that we will know God’s will as to the most effective approach.

I sang at three care centres and at our two Gospel Evenings. People joined in with hymns like the ‘Old Rugged Cross’ and ‘What a Friend’. I sang ‘Thank you Jesus’, ‘How great thou Art’, ‘There is a Redeemer’ and others. The singing and Gospel messages by Robert Swanton were appreciated by all. Neil Shaw On Saturday evening, July 21, a team of four assembled at Millennium House, Belmullet. By Wednesday afternoon we had covered the area of the peninsula from Belmullet town down as far as the Blacksod lighthouse. We visited every house, distributing a booklet and an invitation to Gospel Evenings in the Broadhaven Hotel on Wednesday evening and in Ionad Deirbhile Heritage Centre, Eachléim on Thursday evening. We thank God for the continued opportunity this area affords. Ernest Allen

Westport Outreach 28-29 July 2018 5 team members 760 booklets distributed Team Members - Stephen Ballantine, John McCrossan, Norman Quinn, Harry and Valerie Douglas Valerie and I arrived in Westport on Friday evening and were absolutely drenched! At that stage we wondered what Saturday would bring - maybe just the two of us and it raining all day. But God answered our prayers in a dramatic way because not only was Saturday dry and sunny but, unbeknown to us, John, Norman and Stephen were waiting at The Good News 4 U Bookshop when we arrived! We set up the bookstall, offered booklets to passers-by and distributed Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland and Hope in a Troubled World booklets to homes in the John’s Row, Newport Road and

Quay Road areas of the town. At the bookstall all of the children’s books and calendars and many bookmarks were gratefully received by young families and others. These are great ways of reaching people with the Gospel message. We

praise God for the opportunity of distributing 760 booklets in Westport and know that He will have the increase of these seeds sown in His time and in His will. Harry Douglas Prayer Points For God’s blessing upon Paudge Mulvihill, the Good News 4 U Bookshop in Westport and the Calvary Mission in Mayo. That lives will be transformed by reading the literature.

Report for Keel Clubs July 2018 We give thanks to God for five years of amazing opportunities to share God’s Word with children and young people on Achill Island, County Mayo. It’s difficult to put into words the joy we experience as we are welcomed back year after year to build friendships and teach God’s Word to children and young people who faithfully attend the clubs. Parents and family members have shared with the team just how much the children and teenagers of Keel look forward to the clubs every summer. We trust God to bless and harvest the seed sown in these young lives and to save their precious souls. We are commanded by the Lord to share the Gospel near and far and that includes the somewhat remote, yet very beautiful place called Achill Island. Everyone needs to hear the Gospel message at least once in their lifetime and we rejoice to know that so many children and adults have over the years, heard that life-giving Word. On Saturday 14 July a team of nine set off on our journey to the West of Ireland. God watched over us as we travelled and all of us arrived safely on Achill Island. Our tenth team member, Lynda, was waiting for us in Keel, having safely made her way from Westport. It was a damp and misty evening on Achill, but that didn’t dampen our spirits as we settled into our new ‘home’ for the next week. We knew for sure that God had called us to serve Him and He would provide all our needs, including suitable weather. What a joy to welcome three new team members this year, Lynda McAuley (CEF worker for County Mayo), Rebekah Nixon and Luke Osborne (Sports Co-ordinators); we shared lovely times of prayer, planning, fellowship and fun as we served God together. We were united in our desire to do all to the glory of God, knowing that salvation is of the Lord. On Sunday we were blessed as we joined with Calvary Fellowship in Westport and renewed friendships made in previous years.

On Monday morning we were out on the beautiful Keel beach ready to begin the first club and trusting God to answer prayer and bring the children to us. Our prayers were indeed answered and we had the amazing privilege of teaching God’s Word and sharing His love with thirteen children and young people that day. We ran a morning and an afternoon club each day and this pattern of good attendance was upheld, with twenty seven in attendance on Wednesday. We all had great fun playing games and competing in the planned sports activities. Through this medium we got to know new children and renewed friendships with those we have known over the past five years. Luke and Rebekah co-ordinated and led all the sports activities and they were very well liked and accepted by the children and young people. Half way through each club everyone came on to the tarpaulin and for the next half an hour we taught a Bible lesson, a memory verse, sang choruses, answered questions and of course, we couldn’t forget the quiz. We taught the Life of Joseph each morning and an Object Bible Lesson each afternoon. We always marvel at the level of interest shown by these children as they hear the Word of God and answer questions in the quiz. They love to learn Bible verses and have a great capacity for retaining what they have learned year after year. We thank God that He hides His Word in their hearts and we trust Him to save them for all Eternity.

On Thursday evening we had a great time with parents and family members as we all met in Keel Community Centre. The children and young people took part by sharing some of their musical talents and what a joy to hear them say the memory verses learned throughout the week and sing the choruses with great enthusiasm. Lynda then presented the Gospel message to all present as she shared the missionary story of Helen Cadbury. We thank God for such an opportunity. Pray for all the children and families on Achill and especially for one boy who year after year shows such genuine interest in learning God’s Word. This year he missed the first two days of club due to a pre-arranged sports activity; he was so upset at having missed out on learning more about God and His Word that his Mum and Dad cancelled his place at the next sports camp so he could attend the clubs. This boy knows every Bible verse taught over the past five years and says them every night before he goes to sleep. We thank God for His hand on him and his lovely family and trust that soon they will trust Jesus as Saviour. Space doesn’t allow us to share all that was provided for us by our Heavenly Father that week, but suffice to say that we lacked nothing. To God be all the glory. Parents’ Night, where young people from the Beach Club participated, was enjoyable as we listened to them singing and playing their musical instruments. It was wonderful to hear them recite the memory verses. We visited many homes distributing Dick Keogh's booklets and invitations to two Gospel Evenings. We had the opportunity to go to three care centres where we were warmly welcomed. Maurice and Gretta Patterson Gilbert Beck and I had an enjoyable time in Achill visiting homes. We visited from home to home in the Corraun Peninsula, an area which was visited over the past four

years by Jack and Alice Irwin. The highlight for us was when the children repeated memory verses and sang choruses which they learned. It was an honour to be involved in bringing the Gospel to these lovely people. Philip Hawe Prayer Points That God will continue to speak to the young people and family members who attended the Bible Clubs. That opportunities to witness at homes, literature distributed and messages in Word and song will be used as links in the chain to lead people to Christ.

This year marked the twenty-first occasion when OMS and IEB partnered in outreach at the Croagh Patrick Pilgrimage known as ‘Reek Sunday’. Throughout the day the team offered cups of juice in the Saviour’s name to the pilgrims as well as Gospel booklets relevant to those taking part in the pilgrimage. Numbers attending have dropped dramatically over these past twenty-one years. However, over 5000 people still climbed the mountain, souls for whom Christ died. It is our earnest prayer that many will come to the Saviour as a result of this outreach. Donald Coulter OMS Ireland We had a most encouraging outreach. The weather was the best we ever had in the twenty-one years we have been going to Croagh Patrick. A dedicated team worked hard all day distributing literature containing God’s Word. Many people stopped to talk and had meaningful conversations with team members.

We thank God for everyone who took home the booklets, Saint Patrick, Patron Saint of Ireland and Hope in a Troubled World. David Elwood drove the van and, with the help of Mervyn Camlin, he did an excellent job. Bob and Christina Bell Six of us travelled down early on Sunday 29 July to assist at the annual outreach to pilgrims climbing ‘The Reek’. God blessed us with a lovely day, which in turn helped with the outreach as people were very receptive to the free drink of orange and the Gospel booklets. Some of us had the opportunity to talk at length to representatives of a group and share the true Gospel with them, which we hope and pray will cause them to think. We praise God for this continuing open door to share the Gospel with these needy people. Joseph Crozier

‘How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of Him that bringeth good tidings, that

publisheth peace; that bringeth good tidings of good, that publisheth salvation; that saith unto

Zion, Thy God reigneth!’ (Isaiah 52:7). We met with the team on Saturday evening, had a safety briefing, an itinerary for the next day and we prayed specifically for the outreach. After a cooked breakfast on Sunday morning we set off. Bob and his team had set up the stand the night before and had already been serving tea and coffee to the ‘early birds’. In glorious sunshine all the way to the top of the 'Holy Mountain' some of the team headed up along with many people completing the pilgrimage, some on bare feet. We saw two people being airlifted from the mountain. Pray that those reading the books may see God's plan of salvation. Keith and Esther Warwick After breakfast we went to Croagh Patrick at 8.30am. I spent most of the day distributing booklets, calendars and bookmarks to folks coming down the mountain. I encouraged everyone to read the booklets and they appreciated receiving them. At the end of the day the team felt it was a very worthwhile outreach. Albert Foster Prayer Points That the Word of God contained in the booklets will continue to challenge people about the need of salvation. That the Holy Spirit will speak to many dear people who will come to know the Saviour through reading the Scriptures and literature distributed. Permission to use driveway to park the van and put up stand next year (DV).

The outreach at Croagh Patrick went well. The weather was very good and enthusiastic team members helped to hand out juice and booklets. This year again we were able to distribute many children’s booklets which were well received and a number of people asked for more. Please pray that these booklets will be read and many would come to faith in the Lord. Reuben and Carol Kirkland I met a lady who lost her son from suicide. I explained how our heavenly Father lost His Son and shared Hebrews 7:25. A man remembered me from The Ploughing Championships and I gave him Brian Gault’s DVD. I met a man and, as I shared John 10:27-28 and asked him what that verse said to him, his answer was ‘that we can be sure of heaven’. It was apparent that the Holy Spirit was working.

I gave a pilgrim a lift to his car a mile away as he had walked barefoot, and was bleeding and very sore. Please pray for his salvation and that he will read the booklets given. Hillas Williams We were glad to join the team again this year with our three girls; the baby being only eleven weeks old - the youngest ever team member. We were privileged to serve precious people with juice and a printed explanation of God's amazing offer of salvation. Stephen and Ali McClure It is very encouraging to see how this outreach has become so effective. We had a sunny day and pilgrims appreciated receiving the juice and the booklets. One lady accepted a booklet, Hope in a Troubled World, and returned to request six more for her friends. The ground is being broken and the seed sown, so please join with us to water it with sincere prayer. George Laverty PAGE 9 Winter 2018

As part of the Inishowen team we went around the towns to put up posters and we were delighted to find out that the postal workers had already distributed our envelopes. Team members visited 950 homes and were invited in to some of them where we could see the flyer and booklet. We were encouraged by the response which we received. We had many opportunities to share the Gospel, read the Bible and pray that God would help people through their difficult situations. Toni Margaret Jones, Graham Murphy, John Porter and Neil Shaw blessed us with special music and singing. Gerard Clinton, Ricky Henry, John Mulhern, Michael Quinn and Jack Tinney shared anointed messages from the Bible. The clergy in Inishowen are supportive of our work and we thank them sincerely. Ian Kennedy Prayer Points That people would realise their need. That God will use the Gospel message shared in Inishowen to speak to many people about their need of salvation. That we would have the great joy of seeing some of these people come to know Jesus as their Saviour.

I took part in three meetings and brought the messages from the Bible. We were so encouraged to see how God is working in people’s hearts. These were the best-attended meetings I have attended so far. We praise God for the number of local people He brought in. Some had never heard the Gospel before. There were good opportunities for visiting people and praying with them in their homes. Our God is great and always does more than we could ever expect. Please pray for this work and praise the God of the work. John Mulhern I had the privilege of joining the team in the last week in August in Inishowen. I helped with the cooking for the team. I visited one care home with the team and it was so encouraging to see the residents and staff enter into the singing and listen intently to the Word when it was being shared. I had the joy of having a little chat with a resident who appeared to be receiving what I was sharing about a relationship with Jesus. ‘The Word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword’ (Hebrews 4:12). Angela Wauchope

We had the privilege once again of visiting several homes on Inch Island. The little booklet Hope in a Troubled World and invitations to the Gospel Evenings had already been delivered by post. We give thanks to God for the warm welcomes we received and the blessed times we spent with people. We had the privilege of praying with and for the needs of one family and we trust God will answer prayer for the healing of bodies, souls and minds. While we give thanks to God for open doors we trust there will also be open minds and hearts to the truth of God’s Word and we pray many who attended the meetings will continue to know the blessing of God within their souls. Eric and Olive Borland We enjoyed our day with the team. We helped to distribute flyers and booklets to homes just across the border from Inishowen, but very close to where some of the Gospel Evenings were being held. We were delighted that three people from the area we visited attended one of the evenings and received daily reading booklets. We praise God for a very worthwhile and fruitful day. The house on the hill During our door-to-door distribution of invitations to IEB Fellowship Evenings in previous years I was conscious our resources were finite. In practice this meant we would concentrate on domestic dwellings ‘inside the speed limits’. We would drive along the main road linking various hamlets and villages. Once inside the 50km limit we would park and then work clockwise from door to door until we were back at the car. A frequent thought in my mind was ‘what about the houses outside the speed limit?’ I would like to visit them but it would take too much time to walk or even to drive. We needed to focus on the higher concentration of residences in the towns and villages of Inishowen. Although IEB has worked in this most northerly part of Ireland for many years and repeatedly invited many villagers to the Music and Friendship Evenings I knew many were not getting an invitation. When walking in the sunshine in Ballyliffin with the famous golf course nearby and the stunning Atlantic Ocean as a backdrop I was conscious of an old, small cottage on the hill, up a long farm lane.

I imagined an elderly man living on his own ‘outside the speed limit’ and never having received an IEB invite. I was delighted this year, when Joan suggested a Postal Distribution by An Post to ‘EVERY HOUSE’ and business premises in Inishowen. For the first time ‘the house on the hill’ would

receive an IEB invitation. Members of my own church, Fahan Presbyterian in Inishowen, along with other IEB volunteers from other fellowships and churches prepared 15 200 envelopes containing the booklet Hope in a Troubled World and the invitation card to nine meetings in the six venues across Inishowen. It is our prayer that God will continue to bless many who received the envelopes during the August 2018 distribution. We pray that God’s grace and mercy will touch those both inside and those outside the speed limits of Inishowen including ‘the house on the hill’. James Lamberton

they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?’ (Romans 10:14).
