New Internet of Things (IOT) Initiative
Chair of Steering Committee: Roberto Minerva (Telecom Italia)
Core Societies/Councils: ComSoc, Sensors Council, Computer, Consumer Electronics, RFID TC
Immediate actions:– Launching of a journal on IoT (already approved)– Launching of a conference: first issue will be in Seoul, Korea
in March 2014.

IoT Challenges
Evolution of Sensor and actuator technology (sensibility, power consumption, energy scavenging, etc.)
Evolution in sensor networking, protocols, dealing and controlling groups of sensors, addressing, etc.
Impact of DiY: individuals or crowds of individuals being able to create own solutions and sharing them.
Handling (big) data generated by sensors in large smart environments.
Societal Impacts: how this technology can be effectively used and trusted by individuals, guaranteeing civil rights and stimulating participation

Custom Industry Seminars
2012: Boeing
M&S worked on two seminars:– WalMart, and TASC – GREAT speakers identified through FD database and
working directly with s/c’s Unfortunately deals did not close through M&S
– If your s/c has not sent in SME details please contact Bill at: [email protected]

Some of my personal wishes for IEEE
Continue to Lead on Emerging Technologies
Do more on Career Development Services
IEEE should be a leader on Continuing Education
Pioneer the use of new technologies in offering its products and services– Take lead in experimenting and offering of online
conferences
Strengthening partnership with industry in all its activities
