Hill-walking, Hiking or Walking in the countryside Walking is claimed to be the most popular outdoor recreational activity in the United Kingdom . The country has a comprehensive network of footpaths , which permit easy access to the countryside as well as wilderness areas. In the United Kingdom, "walking" is the usual term for what in other countries is called hiking , which in the UK is a slightly old-fashioned word, with a flavour of heartiness and exercise. Walking in the countryside is also called rambling, and walking in mountainous areas is called hillwalking. There’s no doubt about it, walking is good for you. It’s good for your heart, it’s good for your lungs, it’s good for your muscles and bones growth and it’s good for your feeling of wellbeing! Strong scientific evidence now supports the many benefits to health of regular walking. 1

Hill-walking, Hiking or Walking in the countryside

Walking is claimed to be the most popular outdoor recreational activity in the United Kingdom. The country has a comprehensive network of footpaths, which permit easy access to the countryside as well as wilderness areas.

In the United Kingdom, "walking" is the usual term for what in other countries is called hiking, which in the UK is a slightly old-fashioned word, with a flavour of heartiness and exercise. Walking in the countryside is also called rambling, and walking in mountainous areas is called hillwalking.

Safety of you and your companions should always be of paramount importance when you are walking on the hills. Be aware of your own capabilities, and plan your route accordingly. o Ensure that you are properly equipped for the time of year.o Enjoy the countryside and respect its life and work.

o Protect wildlife, plants and trees. 

o Take a map and a compass so you can follow the bearing of an

unmarked path.

o Don’t forget a torch, first aid kit and a whistle.

o Check the weather forecast before setting out.o Always wear boots and take warm and waterproof clothing.o Take a drink and snack with you.

CyclingCycling, also called bicycling or biking, is the use of bicycles

for transport, recreation, or for sport. Persons engaged in cycling are cyclists or bicyclists. Bicycles were introduced in the 19th century and now number about one billion worldwide. They are the principal means of transportation in many regions.

There are many types of bicycles, for example the mountain bike or mountain bicycle (abbreviated MTB or ATB (all-terrain bicycle)). It is a bicycle created for off-road cycling. This activity includes traversing of rocks and washouts, and steep declines, on dirt trails, logging roads, and other unpaved environments—activities usually called mountain biking. These bicycles need to be able to withstand the stresses of off-road use with obstacles such as logs and rocks.
