IFFO RS

The IFFO RS is a business-to-business certification programme; therefore, the IFFO RS logos are not an Eco-label for consumer seafood products. IFFO The Marine Ingredients Organisation owns the IFFO RS logos for use in connection with fishmeal and/or fish oil from certified units* that have been certified to the IFFO RS Standard. The IFFO RS logos belong to IFFO and are protected under applicable trademark laws.

*fishmeal or fish oil producer factory, oil refinery, storage facility.

What use can be made of the IFFO RS logo?• The IFFO RS logo should be used only in connection with fishmeal and fish oil from

certified fishmeal plants expressly identified in the list of certified plants in the IFFO website www.iffo.net

• The certificate holder shall provide its IFFO RS certificate number with the completed Terms and Conditions of Use.

• The certificate holder must allow IFFO a reasonable time to review and approve in advance all of the IFFO RS logo on print and digital materials and packing (such as advertisements, packaging, web pages, collateral materials, POS materials, and video footage).

• Permission to use the IFFO RS logo is non-exclusive, non-transferable and cannot be sublicensed. This permission will remain in effect for as long as Licensee maintains a current and valid IFFO RS Certificate and fully complies with these terms and conditions.

• The logo user must promptly notify IFFO in writing if it decides to discontinue use of the IFFO RS logo. Subject to strict compliance with these terms and conditions, Licensee may resume use of the IFFO RS logo upon written notice to IFFO.

• The logo can be used in company literature and on websites as long as the words associated with the logo conform to the previous statements. Thus, it should not give the impression that the company has been IFFO RS certified.

• The logo can be used on packing material and associated products (if desired) but must come from certified factories and raw material that have been IFFO RS approved.

• The logo can be used on the premises of the factory to demonstrate compliance. However, if the factory subsequently loses the certification, the logo must be removed.

• The logo cannot be displayed in production facilities that are not approved.• The logo can be displayed in non-production facilities such as headquarters offices but

should not give the impression that the company as a whole has been IFFO RS approved. This logo could for example be displayed along with a list of currently RS approved factories.

• Any unauthorized or improper use of the IFFO RS logo by Licensee will constitute a breach of these terms and conditions and a violation of IFFO’s trademark rights. Upon any such breach or violation, Licensee will immediately cease use, distribution or display of any materials or packaging in breach of these terms and conditions, and IFFO reserves the right to take any action it deems appropriate to safeguard the integrity and goodwill associated with the IFFO RS logos.

• Should a factory cease to be approved, whether through a failure to renew the certification or a failure to achieve certification, the factory and the resulting products must no longer use the logo or claim to be IFFO RS certified. Use of the logo will be monitored by IFFO and any inappropriate usage of the logo may result in the factory being suspended from the IFFO RS standard.

• These terms and conditions may be amended by IFFO from time to time and such changes will be effective upon notice to the logo users.

RS Assured Logo Colours

The IFFO RS logo must not be re-drawn or altered in any way and has size and minimum space requirements to ensure that it is always visually recognisable.

The logo should be given generous clear space around it (see page 6). It should never be enclosed in a box or other graphic to make it stand out (see page 6). The logo is to be positioned appropriately on all collateral, such as brochures, white papers, presentations, articles etc. The brand colours detailed above should always be used, without exception. The black and white alternative can be used should full colour printing be unavailable or not cost effective.

• The certificate holder must provide its Chain of Custody Certificate number with the completed and signed Terms and Condition of Use.

• The certificate holder shall not use the IFFO RS Chain of Custody logo in connection with combined or prepared products unless all the fishmeal or fish oil in such products is from a certified IFFO RS factory and is from a fully certified supply chain.

• The certificate holder will allow IFFO a reasonable time to review and approve in advance all uses of the IFFO RS logo on print and digital materials and packaging (such as advertisements, packaging, web pages, collateral materials, POS materials, and video footage).

Logo On Backgrounds

The logo should not appear as a boxed image. This would typically occur when a .jpg version of the logo is placed over an image or contrasting colour, as shown above. If you are not able to work with .eps files, you should ensure that you place .jpg files over a plain white background. The main IFFO RS logo can be placed over imagery (such as fish or water) but should always be perfectly legible and visible at all times. It should be placed over an area that is not close to the logo colour as shown in the top left. Use the best contrasting version of the logo that doesn’t comprimise it’s legibility.

Claims Do’s and Dont’s

What claims can be made by a company with an IFFO RS compliant factory?A) The unit of certification is the factory, not the fishery or the company.

Examples:

Acceptable• Our xxx factory is IFFO RS compliant• All our factories are IFFO RS compliant (if applicable)

Unacceptable• The xxx fishery is certified as “Sustainable” by the IFFO RS• Our company xxx is approved by the IFFO RS

B) Raw material has been responsibly sourced and whole fish come from responsibly managed fisheries (FAO code of conduct for responsible fisheries).

Examples:

Acceptable• Our IFFO RS compliant products come from responsibly managed fisheries

• IFFO RS has certified that our factories and their raw material meet the standard

Unacceptable• IFFO RS compliant products come from “Sustainably” managed fisheries

C) The statement “this product is IFFO RS compliant” can only be used if the factory and all the raw material meet the standard.
