The International Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is held each year from
January 18 through January 25. The theme of this year's Week of Prayer for
Christian Unity is “Reconciliation: The Love of Christ Compels Us.”
The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity has a history of over 100 years, in
which Christians around the world have taken part in an octave of prayer for
visible Christian unity. By annually observing the Week of Prayer for Christian
Unity, Christians move toward the fulfillment of Jesus' prayer at the Last Sup-
per “that they all may be one.”
For opportunities to pray for and celebrate Christian unity here in Atlanta,

WOMEN’S CLUB MEETING Tuesday, January 31
Women of IHM: you are invited to spend an evening of service and fellowship
preparing sandwiches and hygiene kits for the homeless on Tuesday, January
31, at 7:00 p.m. in the lower level of the church. We will also have a guest
speaker. These items will be distributed by IHM volunteers at the Central Night
Shelter (CNS) in downtown Atlanta the following night, February 1.
Each year from November through March, CNS ministers to a portion of Atlan-
ta's approximately 14,000 homeless. CNS relies exclusively on volunteers from
local churches and organizations to staff the shelter each night and provide
meals. It's an amazing organization that IHM parishioners Aimee and Rob Mur-
phy have tirelessly supported.
We hope you can join us on January 31 and you are also invited to volunteer the
next night, Wednesday, February 1 when we deliver and serve dinner at the
shelter. For more information, please reach out to the IHM Women's Club via
email at [email protected].

Sundays, 10:15-11:15 a.m. IHM School Library
This week’s subject:
Catholicism The Pivotal Players: St. Thomas Aquinas
(Part 2 of 2)
Let the Little Children Come to Me:
Bringing Faith to Life for our Youngest Catholics
When your child was baptized, you promised to raise him or her in the practice of the
Catholic faith. But what does that look like for a toddler or a preschooler?
Starting today, we’ll be holding a series of classes on this subject specifically de-
signed for parents of children ages 18 months to 5 years. Come learn how to help
your children worship at Mass, pray at home, and nurture a Catholic imagination
during this dynamic period of their development.
Classes will be in the lower level, 10:15-11:15 a.m. each Sunday from January 22 to
February 19. The church nursery will remain open for childcare during this hour.
For more information, contact Rainey Jarrell at [email protected].
Our parish will be hosting Family Honor’s Leading & Loving program, for parents
of young children, newborn through 5th grade. We will discuss ideas on being a
good role model, look at how virtue is developed in our children, and help you an-
swer some of your children’s challenging questions – all while instilling the beauty
and truth of Catholic teachings.
Leading & Loving will be presented in two sessions: Friday, February 10, 7:00-9:00
p.m. and Saturday, February 11, 9:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. There is no charge for this pro-
gram and childcare will be provided on site. Space is limited so register online now
at www.familyhonor.org. The deadline for registration is January 27.
For more information contact Natalia Gracia at [email protected] or call 404-
838-6993.
You might have noticed something unusual recently at the 11:30 and 1:30 Masses.
After the homily, the priest will invite a small group of people to the front of the
church for a blessing and then promptly ask them to leave. What’s going on here?
Why are we encouraging people to leave in the middle of Mass?
We are continuing an ancient tradition called the dismissal of catechumens. Catechu-
mens are adults who are preparing to be baptized, confirmed, and welcomed to the
Eucharist at Easter. They have already made a public commitment to the church and
are a recognized part of our community, even though they have not yet been bap-
tized. While they cannot yet participate in the Eucharist, they do participate fully in
the Liturgy of the Word, and so we invite them to continue reflecting on God’s Word
together in a separate place during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.
What about those of us who stay behind? Our role is to sing as the catechumens de-
part, to remember their faces as they pass, to greet them and encourage them when
we see them around church—most importantly, to pray for them, and for all who are
seeking God’s sacramental embrace.
