About the Program
The Universal Banking Simulation forms a bridge between banking theory and practical
experience. The Simulation helps participants recognize, analyze, and judge critical
decision making situations and understand the consequences of their decisions.
TOPSIM Simulations allow one to learn by making decisions - and mistakes – leading to
better understanding of managing risks. TOPSIM Simulations are advanced and
comprehensive models that simulate operating environments, for instance, of a start-up,
of the marketing function, of the overall management, of global markets, or the macro
economics of a country, among others.
The TOPSIM Way
The program will be based on group participation in a simulation with each group having
4-5 participants. Each team represents a bank where participants understand their
current financial statements, view business reports, understand the economic and
market scenario, and use a budgeting program to check their decisions for the
upcoming financial period.
Through the Management Information System, they can receive printed reports showing
them the results of their decisions. These reports allow them to analyze the
development of their bank, the competing banks, and the market.
During the simulation, the participants receive an economic scenario with the expected
development and the conditions for the current period. One period corresponds to one
year in real life.
Adding to that, the Universal Banking Simulation gives the participants the option to
simulate special market situations, which can be fed separately by the facilitator.
The participant decisions are then used to simulate a financial period following which,
the cycle is repeated with additional modules and or complexities being introduced.
As a simulation, per se, cannot completely cover all the complexities of a bank, the lead
facilitator can adjust the complexities in order to ensure that the participants do not lose
sight of the true objectives.
The two-day computer-based simulation will see participants make collaborative
decisions and engage in interactive discussions and activities. The simulation exercise
will be facilitated by officials from Tata Interactive Systems and IIBF.

The Universal Banking Sim forms a bridge between banking theory and practical experience. The simulation is a reproduction of a medium‐size universal bank and offers the participants the opportunity to gain experience in banking without risk. The participants make realistic group decisions with or without a computer‐based participants’ system. The Universal Banking Sim helps participants recognize, analyze, and judge critical decision‐making situations and understand the consequences of their decisions.
Methodology Each team represents one bank where participants enter their decision data, view all reports and can use a budgeting program to check their decisions for the upcoming period.
Through the Management Information System, they can receive printed reports showing them the results of their decisions. These reports allow them to analyze the development of their bank, the competing banks, and the market.
During the simulation, the participants receive an economic scenario with the expected development and the conditions for the current period. One period corresponds to one year in real life.

TOPSIM has been successfully implemented in business education and professional training for more than twenty years, and is currently being used by more than 150 leading global corporations. TOPSIM Simulations allow one to learn by making decisions— and mistakes—in a completely risk‐free environment. TOPSIM Simulations are advanced and comprehensive models that simulate operating environments, for instance, of a start‐up, of the marketing function within a company, of the overall management of a company, of global markets, or the macro economics of a country, among others. The participants of the simulation take up decision‐making roles of their units to compete as teams against other units in a simulated environment. While proceeding through different modules, teams need to plan, strategize, and decide, taking into account several variables that influence the operating environment. Through their decisions, the participants influence the success of their unit.
