IIT Roorkee, wheres that? And heres why youshould know that!

Posted on June 19, 2015June 21, 2015 by utkarshruhelaTo all those who havent had their opportunity to pay homage to The Holy Ganga at Haridwar,the rstthing that comes into their mind hearing the word Roorkee would probably be Roorkee! Where isthat!?

Location: Roorkee is located at some odd 200km distance from New Delhi. Haridwar and Rishikeshare at a stone throwing distance(we will talk about its perk later on), not literally in case youacknowledge yourself as Human Lithobolos.

Climate: With the temperate climate, Roorkee is blessed with the weather much alike the wholeNorthern Planes making it very hot in summers, very cold in winters(December & January).Roorkee as a City: Roorkee is just another small city in U2rakhand. It is essentially just know for 2things, one being its en route to Haridwar and the whole of Garhwal , and second is IIT(which isbasically why you are reading this right now, but wait I am ge2ing there!). IIT is situated at a verycomfortable position just beside the Bus Stand and Civil Lines (the main market, you can ndeverything in your daily use).

The Solani and the Journey: For some God forsaken reason none of the other posts has mentioned thisplace. I come here late nights, early mornings, afternoons. Whenever I am feeling good, feeling bad. It iswhat I call What the water gives you!, it is relaxing and empowering at the same time.

The quintessential building!

Now lets talk IIT. So, youve gone through all the sweat and pain to clear JEE and now are looking for anIIT. I have decided to write this blog not due to the dearth of good blogs, or lack of equitable information.I wanted it to be a photo blog at rst, but this what you get. So, deal with it. So here is why you shouldchoose IIT Roorkee as your home for next 4/5 years.

Antiquity of the Institution:

The rst thing you will notice about IITR is its iconic building, but wait! Dont be so supercial. Theresmore to this epochal piece of architecture and this institute. The rst thing to be understood about thisinstitute is, it is 186 years old institute making it the rst Engineering College in Asia. There is somearchaic feel to the whole place. The institution has its origins in a class started in 1845 to train local youthin engineering to assist in public works then beginning. In 1847, it was ocially established. It wasrenamed as the Thomason College of Civil Engineering. In 2001, an ordinance issued by theGovernment of India declared it as the nations seventh IIT, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkeemaking it the Institution of National Importance.

Architecture and the feel of the Campus: IIT Roorkee is unarguably one of the most beautifulcampuses in the country. At 365 Acres of area along with another campus situated in Saharanpur(25Acres), it hits the sweet spot in terms of land spanning. Neither it is too small(IIT D) to carry out allthe ceremonies(read Fests) and nor too big(IIT Kgp, IIT K), making life easier to roam and participatein activities around the campus.

Rajendra Bhawan, where you guys(by guys, I mean guys) will spend your rst year. Exceptfor the mess food, you will create memories of lifetime in this hostel.

Facilities:

1. Sports Facilities: This is one of the major plus points of IITR, here we have what we call propersports complex(which no other IIT can boast of) where all the facilities ranging from Olympic sizeSwimming Pool to World class synthetic Lawn Tennis Courts are constructed in congregated manner.Which makes it very convenient to engage in sports activities in campus.

2. Library: You remember all those idiosyncratic creatures with thick glasses immersed in their books,pondering if z-plane does indeed cut the plane x+y-z=3 ? Of course, you do! You are one of them. Andif you still believe in sacricing your social life for the greater good, you will nd people matchingyour frequency here year round. For rest will only be seen during the harsh times dealing with theirbimonthly ordeals.

3. LAN facility: It has been rumoured that ISRO will launch their next satellite via IITRs LAN systemsbut it has not been conrmed yet by the faking news team. Now, ge2ing to the point IITR provides yououtrageously high ethernet as well as internet speed. And, guess what? Now you can fap all day- allnight as there is no LAN ban during night hours.

4. Students Club: If there is one place where demarkation between ghissus and non-ghissus ceases toexist, students club is that place. Not just because of the fact that 40 inch LED, Pool Table, Foosball tablesgrace us with their presence but also because you can nd our species counterparts.

5. Multi Activity Centre: With the completion of MACs construction, new ray of hope has emerged forinception of McDonalds and Cafe Coee Day in the campus itself. With quite spacious rooms for mostof the groups (Dramatics, Music,..), the activities inside the campus can be anticipated to only increase.
