    Abstract

The goal of our research is to evaluate the effect of features of the note-taking applications based on their behavior and

learning, in order to develop guidelines for advanced note-taking applications that promote learning. These applications

could be used as the basis for a variety of educational activities, including collaboration. In this paper, we present the

comparison statements between Google Keep and Evernote note-taking applications. We describe potential implications

of these results for the developers of note-taking applications.

Keywords:  Evernote, Google Keep, Functional comparison.

    I.  I NTRODUCTION

Note-taking is the practice of recording informationcaptured from another source. Here are the comparisons

between the two note-taking applications [6].

Google Keep is a note taking software developed byGoogle that has several features which comprises of colorcoding notes, inserting images, creating lists, geo-fencing,shareable notes, and search by color. And also users can settime or location-based reminders for notes. Hence thereminders set through Keep are also accessible by other

Google applications such as Google Now. It implies thatText from images can be extracted using Optical CharacterRecognition technology. This, however, works only withthe English language. Voice recordings created throughKeep are automatically transcribed. Google Keep allowsusers to convert text notes into checklists [3].

Evernote is a cross-platform, free premium appdesigned for note taking, organizing, and archiving. Theapp allows users to create a "note" which can be a piece offormatted text, a full webpage or webpage excerpt, a

photograph, a voice memo, or a handwritten "ink" note. Notes can also have file attachments. It has a advancedapproach for Notebooks that can be added to a stack while

notes can be sorted into a notebook, tagged, annotated, edited, given comments, searched, and exported as part of anotebook [4].

    II.  COMPARATIVE STUDY

The comparison between Evernote and Google Keepnote-taking applications is carried out based on thefollowing factors:

    A. Pricing

    B. Platforms and ecosystems

    C. Organization

    D. Rich Media

    E. Business features

    F. The Champion

     A.   Pricing

Price strategy is an important issue in business and hereGoogle Keep is available online and via an Android app. Both iterations are available for free. And Evernote on theother hand have Web and app elements that you can use forfree, plus paid premium editions.

Evernote is free for up to 60MB per month of data. Thedata cap of the Premium upgrade ($5 per month or $45 peryear) jumps to 1GB of bandwidth each month. It also

provides faster performance, better security, and deepersearch capabilities. Evernote for Business gives IT admins

oversight and control, with additional collaborationoptions, for $120 per user per year.

Both the above mentioned note-taking platforms havefree options, so we can't ding any of the contenders for

being overpriced. Thus,we can get to a point thatEvernote's paid versions offer greater functionality throughapps and add-ons

    [5].

     B.   Platforms and ecosystems

If you want to capture text, voice notes, pictures, andwebpage on the go, no matter which device is in your hand,it can be established using note-taking applications. As the

newest platform to join the party, Google Keep also has themost limited reach, extending only to the Web andAndroid.

Though we have heard no official confirmation, but it'sreasonable to expect Google to develop iOS and WindowsPhone versions of the Keep app eventually. For now, Keepis best for Google-centric users of Google Drive onlinestorage and productivity tools. On the other hand Evernotematches Google Keep with Web access, and also providesnative apps for android, iOS, Windows Phone, andBlackBerry, in addition to dedicated client software forWindows and Mac OS X. Along with this Evernote hasdeveloped an extensive community and provides a variety

of its own apps as well as third-party apps on its Trunkwebsite. Evernote is available on more platforms, and itisn't tethered to any particular brand

    [5].

    C.

OrganizationGoogle Keep lets you view notes as either a list or a

grid resembling tidy sticky notes within a browser. You canalso assign colors to notes, but the drawback in usingGoogle Keep is that you can't order or group notes.Evernote, on the other hand, use a notebook-and-notesmetaphor. You can create a notebook for a dedicatedtopic — such as Website Project, Summer Vacation, orIncome Taxes — and then create multiple related noteswithin it. Evernote can be compared with One Note were italso has the same features as Evernote, which permits oneto group notebooks into Stacks

    [5]. Evernote allows Business

users can stack professional content within a Business

Library. And it provides more controls for organizing yourinformation.

     D.   Rich Media

Widely note-taking apps are most powerful when youuse them for more than text. While using Google Keep onthe Web lets you add only an image from your PC, on anote that its Android app allows you to capture a picture oran audio clip. Keep transcribes the audio to text, embedding both inside your note Evernote's Web version isfairly limited, but its mobile apps collect photos, audioclips, and other files. The main difference comes from

Evernote's ecosystem of aps, which let you do things suchas scan receipts directly to Evernote or convert handwritingto text. For example, Evernote's Penultimate for iPad offers

handwriting recognition, Skitch lets you mark up images,Web Clipper and EverClip save webpage, and Hello foriPhone manages contacts. Here Evernote even saveshandwritten notes and audio from Livescribe Sky digital

pens. Evernote's ecosystem of apps expands its rich-media possibilities

    [5].

     E.  Text editing

Although a note-taking application is not meant toreplace your word processor, it should make your text look

better than a jumble of misaligned characters. For instance,If you insert a checkbox on Evernote's Android or iOS app,Evernote automatically adds a checkbox on each line whenyou tap Enter

[5]. While on the Web version, itb acts in

contrast that, you have to add the checkbox manually at the beginning of each line; if you try to do it en masse, preparefor heartbreak.

     F.   Business features

Evernote Business lets companies to manage its notesand data related to the business, while allowing individualusers to create and maintain personal notes and notebooksoutside the grasp of the IT admin

    [5].

Google Keep is nice and simple, but its capabilities areextremely limited whereas Evernote provides users with a

powerful note-taking platform for free, along withcustomization and expanded capabilities through apps andadd-ons. Plus, Evernote's version for businesses isstraightforward and affordable

    [5].

    III.  PRINCIPLES AND COMPONENT

     A.   EverNote

The basis principles of technical operations is that provisioning is one part of a life cycle in managing serviceswhich covers only a part of the operational life of a service[2]

    .

Services need to be maintained not just provisioned(Updated, pruned, patched),

      Services need to be monitored

Operational component which are responsible for a

function should be consulted with regard to thatfunction

    Example:

Monitoring should be what you consult to see ifsomething is “working”

A configuration should be what you consult for

    configuration information

User, Accounting, and UserAttributes are accessed viathe UserStore service, whereas the ones on the right areaccessed via the NoteStore service. Each core NoteStoreobjects is identified by a globally unique identifier (GUID)which is assigned by the service when the object is firstcreated. This identifier does not change for the lifetime ofthe object and is used to refer to the object in later APIcalls.

Each of these objects also has an update sequencenumber (USN) that is changed whenever the object ismodified on the service. Each updated object receives anew USN whenever a change is committed. The values ofUSN are unique and monotonically increasing within an

account, which results in the state where a client caninspect any two objects in order to determine which wasmore recently modified.

     B. Google Keep

    (1) Android version

The Google Keep mobile app can be installed ondevices that have been approved by Google with Androidversion 4.0.3 (Ice Cream Sandwich) or higher. Notes can

be created through the mobile app or through the Keepwebsite and they are synchronized across both platformsvia the user's Google Account [3]. Thus it allows users toaccess saved notes anywhere with internet as well asupdate notes offline. Google Keep is compatible withAndroid Wear. It automatically shows up the top 10 itemsin Keep, which happens once an Android wearable is pairedwith another Android device,. Users can create new notesusing voice input, add and tick off items on lists, viewreminders and snooze notifications.

    (2) iOS version

Google released an iOS version of Google Keep on 24

September 2015 which is applicable for both iPhone andiPad running iOS 8.0 or later.A advantage of using GoogleKeep is that it provides the users to synchronize notes

between devices using a user's Google account which isvery similar to the Android version. Here the applicationalso features the same photo syncing, voice recording andreminder options that the Android version uses; thereminders are delivered across all signed-in devices, including via iOS push notifications [4].

    (3).Chrome OS packaged app version

Google Keep app for Chrome browser and Chrome OSare one of the early packaged apps provided by Google. The application can be used while the user is offline for

creating, editing and deleting notes as well as for extrafeatures such as adding images [10]. The Google KeepChrome app also works on Linux operating systems as wellas Windows and Mac, despite Linux not having a nativeGoogle Drive app available.

    IV.  CONCLUSION

Both Google Keep and Evernote for Android have thesame functionality when it comes to creating quick notes. On a fact that, Evernote offers more flexibility for notetypes and it has better options for taking photos and OCR,whereas Google Keep has a better browsing interface.Hence based on our comparative study between Google

Keep and Evernote. We have come to a conclusion thatEvernote is much superior than Google Keep
