AN OPPORTUNITY TO
PROMOTE CLUB ITALO/
AMERICANO
The weekend of March 17-18 and Mon-
day, March 19 St. Mary of the Angels
Parish in East Green Bay is having a St.
Joseph Table similar to the one that
Chuck and Lenora Rhyner (Club Mem-
bers) had in 2013.
La Tavola di San Giuseppe is a religious,
cultural, traditional and artistic endeavor
celebrated in Italy since the fourteenth
century. In thanksgiving for prayers an-
swered to end an exceptionally severe
drought, the people erected a table to St.
Joseph to whom they had prayed. This
tradition is continued to the present day
in New Orleans, Houston and other cities
with populations of Italians.
March 19 is not only the feast of St. Jo-
seph but also Father’s Day in Italy.
The table is laden with bread, bread sculp-
tures, fruits, vegetables and of course,
cookies. Because of this being an ancient
ITALIAN tradition since the Middle Ages,
we have been given the opportunity, as an
Italian Club, to participate by donating
cookies.
If you would like to contribute cookies,
contact Jackie(Gilardi) Kucera at 469-
0024 or email [email protected] or Le-
nora (Fiorenza)Rhyner at 468-8922 or
email [email protected]
Father Anthony Cirignani,OFM, pastor of
St. Mary of the Angels has invited us to
view the St. Joseph Table at the church
hall which is located on 645 South Irwin
and Cass St.
Viewing times are 5:00 pm on Saturday
March 17, 10:00 am on Sunday, March
18 ( the parish will provide coffee and
rolls on Sunday) and on Monday, March
19 at 8:00am. The children of the parish
school will view the table between 8:30
and 8:45.
St. Joseph table made by Lenora and
Chuck Rhyner in 2013.
A reminder of times and dates will be
included in the March issue of Il Piccolo
Giornale
ITALIAN COVERSATION CLUB
FEBRUARY 10, 2018
The Italian Conversation Club is continuing
to grow! A group of 12 people, including
6 from Club ItaloAmericano, were at the
January meeting. The range of speaking
was all the way from beginner to fluent!
The next meeting (always on the second
Saturday of the month) will be on Febru-
ary 10 at the Brown County Central Li-
brary, 525 Pine Street from 10:00 to
11:30 in “Think Tank C” on the second
floor.
No need to register just show up ready to
practice your Italian. All levels are wel-
come.
For further info and/or questions, please
contact Angela Landt at:
[email protected] or 920-536-4097.
FEBRUARY OPERA OFFERINGS
Bay Park Cinema continues its "Live at the
Metropolitan Opera" this month with not
one but two operas. The first will be
Gaetano Donizetti's "L'Elisir D'Amor"Êto
be shown on Saturday, February 10.
Two weeks later on Saturday, February
24, the featured opera will be "La Bo-
heme" composed by Giacomo Puccini.
Both begin at 11:55 am. Prices are $24
for adults, $22 for seniors and $18 for
children.
Update on Family Roots
We’ve had a very good response from club
members sharing the names of the Italian
regions from which their families came to
America.
What is particularly interesting is the fact
that some members families came from
either the same region, an adjacent area
or even the same town!!!
In a future issue of Il Piccolo, we will pin-
point those areas on a map of Italy.
In the meantime, please send the names
of the regions or towns from which your
family emigrated to this country to Lenora
Rhyner at [email protected] or call
468-8922.
SAVE THE DATE
The Italian movie, Corpo Celeste, is sched-
uled for Wednesday, March 21.
The description of the movie is:
Corpo Celeste (Italy, 2011), Director Alice
Rohrwacher
Having recently returned to her native
Italy after living in Switzerland for 10
years, 13-year-old Marta only source of
socialization is the local church, where she
is told to attend preparatory classes for
her confirmation. But the doctrines of
Roman Catholicism offer little in terms of
life lessons or consolation, so she eventu-
ally forges her very own way towards
adulthood.

ideas, suggestions and/or concerns.
If you have an item or topic that you feel
needs extra time, please contact President
Teofilo ([email protected] or 432-6513)

so it can be added to the agenda.
The meetings are held on the third Thurs-

and are held at Luigi’s Italian Bistro on
Manitowoc Road.
The next Board meeting will be on Thurs-
day 15 February.
