Turning innovators into founders

Event overview

ilab Accelerator

The ilab Accelerator, formally known as the ‘Germinate’ program, together with the incubator program, has supported 200+ startups that have raised $75+ million since 2014.

This year, UQ increased its commitment to the ilab Accelerator program so we could support more big ideas. We welcomed a second Entrepreneur in Residence, growing our support to the teams.

Ventures’ Entrepreneurs in Residence, Sam Jockel and Ran Heimann, and the Ventures team have worked tirelessly with the program’s passionate entrepreneurs for the past six months, providing mentorship and sharing real-world business experience.

Ventures

At The University of Queensland (UQ), Ventures reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of our community – to be bold and adventurous in working together to find opportunities and to solve global challenges.

Entrepreneurial thinking is a universal mindset that applies across every discipline, industry, and stage of discovery. From thinking differently to solving wicked problems, to partnering with industry to taking a discovery to market – Ventures provides support at every stage of the entrepreneurial journey.

The challenges we have experienced globally highlight the importance of having the knowledge, technology and skills to respond quickly and effectively; and how essential it is to be adaptable, be resilient and be willing to work together to make a difference.

At Ventures, we have a strong commitment to building our hub of innovators, leaders and entrepreneurial minds who accelerate ideas to impact and help create this difference.

Our 2020 ilab accelerator cohort has triumphed through unprecedented challenges and are to be congratulated on their hard work, dedication and amazing ideas.

Open Inductions is currently in the final development stages of a hybrid electric motor for commercial aviation. Our innovative design reduces fuel consumption by 40% and is specifically efficient in large-scale applications.

Our engineering team has redesigned the original induction motor so our engine could be retrofitted to existing commercial air-crafts.

We hope that our engine will pave the way for more economical air travel, longer direct flights and a significant reduction in CO2 emissions in the aviation industry.
