X K-12/MindSET Number of persons who participated in this project Members: 11 Electees: 0 (List of names provided in description) Hours spent on this project. Organizing: 6 Participating: 3 DESCRIPTION: I. General Description: The Peoria Riverfront Museum hosts an "Engineering Day" event each year where families are able to spend the day learning about engineering fields through hands-on activities, exhibits, and demonstrations. We had two stations: a marshmallow catapult building station and an eddy current station. In the former, visitors were able to build a miniature catapult using an assortment of components with help from members of TBP. The latter was a demonstration of the difference of a magnet’s behavior when dropped through a copper tube and a plastic tube. II. Purpose & Relationship to Objectives of TBP: Improve public image of Tau Beta Pi and IL-D, broaden IL-D's community service, and expose youth to the excitement of STEM fields through an interactive event. III. Organization & Administration: (in conjunction with another group?) X Yes __ No The Engineering Events Chair worked closely with the administrator of the Engineering Day Event at the Peoria Riverfront Museum, Nick Rae. IV. Cost & Personnel Requirements: $140.19. V. Special Problems: Children were not as interested in the Eddy Current Station. VI. Overall Evaluation/Results (Be Specific): The event went very well. Our area at the museum was constantly filled with visitors. Many children and parents stated that the marshmallow catapult station was their favorite activity of the day.
