4. Reports:

A. Weck: Today’s Stemler Cave Woods project . a. Wanted visit all known caves in the woods, get GPS

coordinates, and check accuracy of maps if possible. Two cave locations not confirmed (Red Chert Cave [2 hrs effort]; Buzzing Bug Cave [but we have a good location]) Seven were confirmed with GPS locations (one of which was corrected), and one new cave was discovered. One feature labeled unnamed cave is an inaccessible joint. Five remaining locations were not checked. One of the main reasons for doing this is that there are public hiking trails and some of the caves are close to the trail, so for safety reasons we hope to provide locations to IDNR to assist with management. This was all done under permissions obtained from IDNR and INPC.

B. Colburn: Data custodian report (See Attachment)

a. We reviewed the report and discussed C. Raber: treasurer’s report and ISS patch report

a. Weck got check from John Lovass $289, passed to Rich Raber who will set up account, Weck will become secondary signee.

b. Raber handed out a treasurers report (attached)

5. Old Business: A. Schmitt: response from invitation to potential ISS cooperators

a. Bob spoke with Tony about this earlier today - Tony emailed out to everyone who was on the most recent list of paid members, inviting them to become cooperators of the ISS - a bunch of emails bounced, and of those who did not bounce, noone replied. b. We discussed adding cooperators. c. The board voted and unanimously approved the following as the current list of cooperators (to be maintained by the vice president, with contact information) is:

Aaron Addison Sean Bittle Mono Colburn Carl Daubach Pen Daubach Rick Haley Derik Holtmann Dan Lamping Andrew Lloyd

John Lloyd Chad McCain Ted Mueller Debbie Newmann Richard Orr Bob Osburn Rich Raber Rod Raber Gary Resch Tony Schmitt Ray Shaw Alan Sullivan Steve Taylor Edmund Tucker Bob Weck Frank Wilhelm Jack Wood

B. Addison: status of ISS Facebook page; This is a closed facebook group, that all cooperators who are on facebook are invited to

6. Miscellaneous:

a. Registered Agent: Richard Raber becomes our registered agent as of this meeting,

Bob Weck signed the form, and it will be mailed to the Secretary of State.

b. Report on Fogelpole Cave Survey (Aaron Addison) The resurvey of the cave stands at ~4.6 kilometers (~2.86 miles) at

a depth of 27 meters (88.6 ft). 325 stations set to date. Aaron showed us a plot of the map with the new survey overlaid on the old survey.

c. Bob Weck talked about a snail paper he and Steve Taylor published in Spelobiology Notes

d. Aaron Addions - talked about a paper he and Bob Osburn published on the Fogelpole Cave resurvey

e. Discussion that the front page of the website should have a link to "Publications" that includes the above + everything listed under /Science/Cave & Karst Science Resources/ Action: Weck will scroll through the website and suggest updates to

the webmaster f. ISS Patch Report (Raber) - see attached g. Steve talked about the Illinois Bat Conservation Program

illinoiscaves.org h. Aaron talked about the detection of bats using Lidar in Long Cave

(Mammoth Cave National Park, KY).

Woods during the day on Saturday 8. Motion to adjourn: Steve T.

Stemler Woods project request from Bob Weck, <[email protected]>

Nov 20 (13 days ago)

Hi Mona, I am organizing a field project in Stemler Cave Woods for the ISS weekend of Dec 3 that I mentioned in my previous email. Back in 2008 Philip Moss printed a map for me showing the locations of the 13 known caves in Stemler Cave Woods Nature Preserve, St. Clair County, Sugar Loaf Twp., Columbia Quadrangle. Apparently all the caves were recorded and mapped as a previous ISS project. I hope you can find the maps. Here is the list of cave names: Tortoise Falls Cave Mexi-coon Cave Procrastination Pit Hackberry Cave Amphipod Hall Too Quick Pit SCWNP Joint Fern Room RR Grade Pit unnamed cave Buzzing Bug Cave

Shower Pit Red Chert Cave Let me know.

Thanks, Bob -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mona Colburn <[email protected]>

Bob I found the following maps: * Procrastination Pit * Too Quick Pit * SWNP Joint (but not a SCWNP Joint) * Fern Room * RR Grade Pit * Buzzing Bug Cave * Shower Pit * Red Chert Cave

Nov 30--Also found Tortoise Falls

Mexi-coon Cave, Hackberry Cave, Amphipod Hall, and Unnamed Cave are listed as shape files from Phil, which I cannot access.

2016 Submissions to ISS: 2-9-2016Jim Sherrell emailed an historic blurb about Diamond Mineral Springs and that the property was said to have a large cave entrance. However, Jim has never seen any caves in the vicinity. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 5-27-16 email from Edmund Tucker <[email protected]>: Edmund was going thru his emails, and found a screenshot of a map in 1962 SLUG Newsletter.

This is an email to Edmund from Erick Christy with a screen shot of “Illinois Bottomless Cave” Monroe Co., IL, [### Location Data Redacted ###] St. Louis U. Grotto 2-5-61. Screen shot p64 of the SLUG Newsletter 1:1, April 1962.

Only way I could copy the map was to do another screen shot. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6-9-16 Chad McCain submitted map of Wind Blown Cave and Wind Blown Pit(which are HAR-035A & HAR-035B) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 6-12-16 Chad McCain re-submitted 4 cave map pdfs of Browns Hole, Lilly Cave, Green Rock Caverns and Cobden Cave. These were re-submitted because he could not remember if he had turned these maps in digitally. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 7-11-2016 Edmund Tucker submitted a list of Illinois caves. It is a spreadsheet from Dick Blenz of the NSS Cave File for Illinois.
