“Eat up, Anele,” said Mum. “Today’s a busy day.”

It was the first day of autumn and the cupboard at the squirrel house was almost bare.

There was just enough for breakfast.

She scooped up a few baskets, Anele too, and scurried out into the brisk, cool air.

The sun was shining and the leaves on the trees were just beginning to change

into the yellows, oranges and reds of the new season.

“Looks like everyone has the same idea, Mum,” said Anele as she stopped

to watch the activity below.

“Enough to .”Mum smiled.

“Enough to .”

“Enough to .” “Enough to .”

“Enough to –

for the years and years and years to come.”

“So we’ll always have enough?” asked Anele.

“More than enough, Anele,”

Anele and her mother set out one crisp autumn morning to collect acorns –

not just for the cold winter months ahead but also, as Anele discovers, for

the many, many, many years to come.
