Letter from the President and CEO

For 44 years, Florence Fuller Child Development Centers has led our community in providing quality early childhood education and out-of-school enrichment programs to more than 700 economically disadvantaged children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years old, annually.

We provide more than quality education – we also provide a full array of preventative health screenings including vision, hearing, dental, nutrition, height, weight, and blood pressure. We provide two-thirds of a child’s daily nutritional needs through our free meals program. Our work impacts the cycle of poverty and ensures that our children go home to safe, stable and nurturing homes each night. In a place our families trust, we provide comprehensive, integrated services in partnership with multiple local nonprofits, educational institutions and health care providers, giving families access to the help they need at our “one-stop village.” This eliminates the barriers that create stress when a family is most vulnerable. The services we provide include crisis intervention and case management, life skills, employment, financial and health-related education, behavioral health and support counseling, on-the-job training/coaching, computer skills, and a robust volunteer program recruiting productive community members to work with our children and support our mission – ALL in an effort to ensure that each child has the best chance to reach their full potential.

This year has been an exciting one. We have embarked on our first Capital Campaign focusing on raising $4,500,000 to build the 9,100-square-foot Perper Learning Center for our Afterschool Program on our West Campus, fund new and exciting programs for our children, provide for much-needed classroom and bathroom renovations on both Campuses and create an endowment to ensure that we can continue to serve the children and families in our community who need us most.

Additionally, this year we assumed management of The Boca Raton Children’s Museum, a 501(c)(3)non-profit. The Museum is an enchanting place dedicated to delivering real-life experiences to children through the world of play. It’s a place where children engage in global issues like the environment and social responsibility through age-appropriate activities, showing them how combining engineering, math, technology, and the arts can create permanent, impactful solutions in their life, work and causes they choose to support. The Museum gives Florence Fuller Child Development Centers the opportunity to reach many more children and families in our community and provide an array of enrichment activities to low- and moderate-income families who would otherwise not have them.

Who We Served In 2014

The Children’s Museum Mission: To broaden children’s awareness of the world around them and teach them how to problem solve through creative and scientific exploration.

The Children’s Museum Vision: To create a community-learning environment that supports and nurtures the family.

In October 2014, the Florence Fuller Child Development Centers assumed the management of The Boca Raton Children’s Museum. The Children’s Museum is often referred to as Boca Raton’s precious link to the past. Two of the city’s few historical buildings (Singing Pines - circa 1913 and The Cottage - 1935) are on this site, making The Children’s Museum a very special and unique destination indeed!

BRUCE’S STORY When he was 4 years old, Bruce was brought to our preschool for the first time. A shy and reserved child, he could not make friends like the other children could and did not speak or interact with adults. Our teachers and social workers identified Bruce’s discomfort and anxiety, and for months worked to acclimate him to his new environment. Eventually Bruce began interacting, little by little, with his peers. As his difficulties became more noticeable, our experienced staff knew that more could be done to help Bruce and his family. They performed an in-depth assessment, and connected Bruce and his family to the intervention services that he needed. The assessment results provided valuable insight – Bruce’s family

and our staff now had the information needed to shape individualized interventions best suited for Bruce. Our social worker accompanied Bruce’s family to their appointments and ensured that they were able to navigate, understand, and participate in the treatment being provided. Bruce is now almost five years old, happy, healthy, and ready to conquer Kindergarten with confidence.

When you donate your time or resources for our children’s benefit, you create opportunity for them to optimize their development in these most critical early years. These children will soon be our community’s future. It is our responsibility to ensure that local children become tomorrow’s strong citizens and leaders.
