The Principality of Andorra is a small independent state that shines like a jewel embedded in the middle of the Pyrenees, between Spain and Fran-ce. Here the mountains are high, the snow abundant and the sun is nearly omnipresent throughout the year due to the region’s orientation to the Me-diterranean. Only 468 km² (181 sq mi) make up the country but it is difficult to imagine a greater concentration of attractions. The countless opportu-nities for leisure and entertainment for all ages, the vast cultural offerings, the excellent food, the stimulating night life and of course the snow and the mountains at the epicentre of the galaxy of emotions that is Andorra.

More than half a century’s passion for skiing Everything started back in 1957, with the opening of the first ski lift in El Pas de la Casa, Coll Blanc. The engine marked the beginning of the golden era in the history of skiing in Andorra and, with the opening of the ski lift, the starting pistol sounded for the first ski slopes in the country.
More than half a century later, Andorra has become a paradise for ski lovers. There are two large domains, Grandvalira and Vallnord, which between them have more than 300 km of skiable slopes. These slopes also offer varied, top-quality services adapted to all prefe-rences and ages, whether aimed at fanatics of snow sports or at those who wish to enjoy the snow and the mountains without having to put on any ski boots.
In recent years, Andorra has taken a qualitative leap ahead in promoting skiing, by successfully organising top-level sporting events. European or World Cups in diverse modalities, both in Vallnord as well as in Grandvalira, with great media repercussion, are a good example of this.
The effort, the dedication and the enthusiasm of the Andorran people has meant that over the last 50 years, we have perfected all the services related to snow and skiing. Today, Andorra is an ideal destination for those looking for their dream holiday in the snow.

Grandvalira is the largest ski resort in the Pyrenees and in the south of Europe, with 118 slopes of all levels, and a total of 210 skiable kilometres.
The area also has a far-reaching parallel offer of restaurants and leisure time activities and is the habitual setting for top-class international com-petitions. Grandvalira is in the north of the Principality of Andorra, in the border area with France. The space it occupies belongs to two of the se-ven Andorra parishes (Encamp and Canillo) and is made up of six sectors that were combined into a single resort 10 years ago: Pas de la Casa, Grau Roig, Soldeu, El Tarter, Canillo and Encamp.
In 2016, Grandvalira will once again be a World Cup ski resort and will hold the Ladies Alpine Skiing World Cup on 27th and 28th of February and the Speed Skiing World Championships from the 10th to 13th March. The ski resort also continues to be committed to off-piste skiing by hosting the sixth edition of the intercontinental challenge known as the Skiers Cup that will bring together the best freeride and freestyle riders from Europe and the United States from the 30th January to the 4th February. The Freeride Junior World Championship also returns to Grandvalira for the second year running with the best young riders on the international scene from the 28th to 30th January. Grandvalira will also host the Total Fight Snowboard on 25th and 26th March and the Total Fight Freeski on 1st and 2nd April.

Grandvalira is about skiing and so much more.

Freeride World TourFor the second year running, Vallnord Arcalís will be hosting the FREERIDE WORLD TOUR, the top international category in this modality.
Arcalís has been very fortunate to join this prestigious interna-tional circuit as there are only five stops on the tour: Chamonix in France, Fieberbrunn in Austria and Verbier in Switzerland, along with Vallnord Arcalís for the European stages. Alaska will be the setting for the only event to take place in America. Make sure to put 23rd and 24th of January this winter in Andorra down in your diary!
Ski Mountaineering World Cup As is starting to become habitual, Vallnord will host two trials of the SkiMo World Cup this winter. Arcalís will host the tradi-tional “Font Blanca” individual time trials on 16th of January. On 17th of January, Arinsal, with its 1,000 meter difference in height, will be the challenge to be overcome in the Vertical Race.

Easy skiing for beginners, with guaranteedsnow throughout the winter seasonParador Canaro was founded in 1968 with a ski lift, two instructors and a ski rental shop. Since then, the resort has adapted to new technology with the installation of the first snow cannon in Andorra. Snowmaking is available on the three hectares of the ski domain. The resort is located in the Canillo valley, between El Tarter and Soldeu. All the services are easily accessible. With its two runs specially designed for beginners, Parador Canaro is the ideal place for children and adults to become acquainted with the snow in a secure environment. The family atmosphere of Parador Canaro, of the 4-star Parador Canaro hotel and their respective servi-ces will facilitate your first experience of the snow. An area exclusively designated for sledding is also available, the children’s delight.

Cross-country skiing and lots more! Naturlandia is the Andorran adventure park, which is in Sant Julià de Lòria. It has the Tobotronc, the longest natural slide in the world, covering a route of 5,3 km, which allows you to see the forest from the inside, while descending in a comfortable two-seater sledge which is easy to control. Another great activity is the Airtrekk, the largest Sky Trail in Europe. It is a structure consisting of 10 towers and 3 raised levels with different circuits made of rope and walkways.
At Naturlandia, you can also practice cross-country skiing with the more than 15 km of sign-posted tracks, at an altitude of 2,050 m. The range of activities you will find in the park is very exten-sive: snowmobiles, snowshoes, an animal park, electric vehicles, tubby and mini-tubby slide, ponies, an area with inflatables, handicraft workshops for children, zip-lining, archery and mini golf, among others. You can also stop at any of the restaurants you will find in the beautiful natural countryside.

CultureAndorra has a long history. In 1278 the Principality of Andorra was born with the signature of the “Pareatges” between the Bishop of Urgell and the count of Foix, but man populated the valleys 5,000 years before then. The outcome is an enormous cultural legacy that has been treasured through the years. Inquisitive visitors can discover amazing cultural itineraries, mu-seums that describe the customs and local traditions, or the rich Romanesque heritage that has been with us the last 1,000 years.
If you enjoy finding out about the culture of a country and getting to know what its museums have to offer, Andorra has 18 different ones, each with a special story of its own. Ask for the Passmuseu at any Tourist Information Office in the country and take full advantage of its benefits. Further information at any Tourist Information Office or in the museums themselves. We also recommend visiting the Casa de la Vall, which will surprise you. This building, which is the most emblematic one in Andorra, is the former headquarters of the General Council.

Designer and luxury goods, fashion, jewellery, beauty, perfumes, pharmaceuticals or elec-tronics can be found seven days a week. In Andorra the friend-liness of a small shop is often combined with the glamour and splendour of boutiques that have nothing to envy those of the great world capitals. Escaldes-Engordany Parish is delighted to present VIVAND, an open-air shopping and leisure time area exclusively for pedestrians, in Avinguda Carlemany.
Andorra Shopping Festival 2015A creative festival in Andorra La Vella and Escaldes to enjoy shopping with a blend of fashion, art, leisure time and cultu-re. GastronomyThe “bordes” are traditional Pyrenean buildings made of stone and timber that in the past were used to store hay and farming tools. Nowadays most of them are cosy restaurants where you can enjoy authentic mountain cuisine such as “escudella” a stew which is an excellent choice to fight the winter temperatures, “trinxat” a tasty mix of meat and vegetables blended and fried, mountain rice or a plate of snails (some of the local delights are reserved only for bravest). Costumers can also opt for top-quality contemporary and creative cuisine directly influenced by the neighbouring French and Spanish master chefs.
Check out on the agenda whether your visit coincides with any of the many Gastrono-mic Campaigns that are organised during the winter months and which are the perfect occasion to try out some exquisite menus proposed by the leading chefs in the country.
You should not leave Andorra without having booked a table to have supper in any of the restaurants up in the ski stations: share a meal in an unbeatable mountainside setting with your partner, friends or family. We are convinced you will remember this experience for a long time!

WellnessThe presence of thermal waters in Les Es-caldes was already known in the ancient ti-mes. Rich in sulphur and minerals the water was soon to prove its analgesic, healing, decongestant and anti-allergic properties. Today, thousands of visitors a year enjoy its beneficial effects in Caldea, the largest hot spring complex in southern Europe. Caldea offers relaxation, well-being and more within spectacular surroundings. The culture of water has taken deep roots and there are many places that have recently incorporated wellness areas into their servi-ces, some of which have a surface area of up to 5,000 m².

Andorra’s nightlifeThe days are cold on the slopes. But Andorran nightlife has a warm, friendly feel to it. There are clubs, pubs and discotheques all over the country, where you can have a drink while you’re dancing or listening to music and enjoy your stay, day and night!
After skiing, the ski resorts put on a programme of con-certs and festivals, with internationally recognised ar-tists. The evening could also start out in a pub, listening to a live band, with your favourite drink in your hand and, if you have enough energy left after spending the day on the slopes, you might like to end up on the dance floor of one of the many discotheques until the early hours of the morning.

Summer in AndorraWith the arrival of the good weather, the country can be discovered all over again. The white countryside that bewitched the winter is now unrecognisable, but this doesn’t mean that it is lost its charm. It’s time to take your backpack and to follow one of the many routes which take you, between mountain peaks and lakes, to places of extraordinary beauty.
In summer, the 468 km² of Andorra will take you to a world of nature in its purest state and of impressive coun-tryside. You will find beautiful views, for example, in the three protected open spaces in the country: Les Valls del Comapedrosa Communal Natural Park, Sorteny Natural Park and the Vall del Madriu-Perafita-Claror. The last of these three has been declared World Heritage by UNESCO.
Discover each nook and cranny of Andorran beauty by following the GRP that goes practically all around the country. It consists of 100 km divided into seven stages. You can ask for a passport at any of the refuges there are in Andorra and if you manage to fill it up with a stamp from all of them, you will be given several gifts and a diploma signed by the Minister of Tourism.
Remember… Summer in Andorra is synonymous with nature, but it also offers many other activities. With the arrival of the good weather, it is the ideal time to enjoy one of the open-air festivals, live music, or exclusive shows. If you don’t want to miss a single one, check out the agenda before starting your adventure in Andorra.
During the summer, Andorra organises a wide range of open-air festivities such as the free show “Scalada” by the Cirque du Soleil, live music in the streets and squares, traditional fairs and town festivals.
If you would like to receive information about all the activitiesput on in the country, downloaded the new Andorra Active Tourism App.
