Innovation and Technology Innovation & Technology are the lifeblood of the future for metal packaging. While the industry is mature in nature, there will always be a need to streamline production techniques, modernize equipment, and react to the branding requirements as the world evolves. And yes, we can be proactive by creating new packaging and metal decorated products that will drive the markets. The IMDA recognizes this need to stay abreast and subsequently assembles an agenda of speakers who represent contemporary thinking and are experts in their respective fields. This year’s 2017 Conference presents such an agenda. Our Annual Conference is being held once again at the Hilton Oak Brook Hills Resort and Conference Center which is a facility with high quality meeting space. As compared to last year’s meeting, we are expanding our meeting space utilization due to the added Exhibit Attendance and to maintain a comfortable environment where we can present an agenda packed with insight, information and tools you can use. In keeping with tradition, we continue to use Hotel facilities which include an onsite golf course which enables us to host the Annual Scholarship Golf Outing and Banquet all in one location. We are pleased to announce that our Wednesday morning Keynote Speaker for the Conference is Dr. Daniel Abramowicz, Chief Technology Officer for Crown Holdings. Dr. Abramowicz will be discussing Innovation and Packaging Technology developments for our industry. Joining the opening presentations will be Debbie Jones of Deutsche Bank who will provide us with their financial perspective on our industry. Both will provide insight into our metal packaging industry; the one which continues to embrace the constant and adjusts to that which is different. With our continued focus on bringing you the latest from the Packaging Education sector, we are pleased that Dr. Susan Selke, Director of Michigan State University’s School of Packaging will be presenting on their school’s latest developments.Rounding out our morning opening session, our Motivational Speaker, Haydn Shaw, will provide a lively presentation on “Generations in the Workforce,” one of the hottest topics for companies to be cognizant of. As is customary, we will hold our Awards Luncheon on Wednesday to honor our Member of the Year, Decorators of the Year and Excellence in Quality award winners. We will also award our 2017 scholarships to IMDA family students at this luncheon. Our afternoon will feature the Breakout session format for the Flat Sheet and Two Piece segments. The breakouts will include presentations on innovation and technical knowhow to enhance your skills. Our well attended and expanded Sponsored Exhibition will complete the day with hospitality and tabletop exhibits second to none. Incidentally, potential Exhibitors will find the form to reserve your table enclosed. And to the Conference Sponsors, we extend a hearty Thank You for supporting our efforts to host a high quality Conference for the industry. We are pleased to have Ken Adams from Coca-Cola as our Thursday morning’s Keynote Speaker. The remainder of Thursday’s agenda will concentrate on curing methods, new coating materials, regulatory developments, and inspection technology. Our planning sessions have been engaging and the results thus far are on target with providing education on metal decorating and metal packaging to keep us current in the marketplace. Register now and join the more than 300 metal packaging personnel who are attending the premier event of the year! We hope to see you in May.

Our Outing continues to support a most worthy cause. The proceeds from the outing are used to fund our IMDA Scholarship Fund. These funds are awarded to our members’ children and grandchildren who will continue their pursuit of learning at the college level.

Golfers will enjoy the camaraderie and sportsmanship of fellow metal decorators as they play on the Willow Crest golf course. Upon completion of the play, we will host our ever-popular banquet that evening. This event has been a fun-filled and enjoyable evening for many attendees over the years. During the banquet we will recognize the achievements of the day’s golfers and recognition is given on many fronts. The banquet is also open to those who choose not to play golf and want to share in the festivities and fellowship of the other industry members. To register and find more details go to:

EXCELLENCE IN QUALITY COMPETITION

The IMDA supports the recognition of the craftsmanship displayed by those who are active in the decoration of metal products. Our industry is fortunate to have many individuals who have demonstrated a performance level worthy of recognition by their peers. Companies are afforded the opportunity to recognize those individuals who have displayed exemplary craftsmanship while carrying out their duties operating or maintaining metal decorating equipment. We encourage managers to submit applications for those who meet the IMDA’s criteria to be considered for such recognition. Our judged winners will be known as our Decorators of the Year, 2017. We have mailed out entry forms earlier to decorating company personnel. You can also obtain an entry form from our website: metaldecorators.org. Please enter the Events section and then navigate to the Decorators of the Year form. All nominees will be given a complimentary registration to the conference and will be recognized during Wednesday’s Awards Luncheon.
