Overview of Lesson 1 - Lesson 16 Twice weekly sessions with Imelda over an 8 week period Teaching important skills in mindfulness practice whilst also cultivating kindness and leading pupils towards positive mental health outcomes as they journey through life. This interactive Course engages the children in working together to grow mindful communities, and understanding that the best place to start is in our school community. Suitable for primary school children age seven years upwards. ALLOWING AND LETTING BE Engaging in three formal mindfulness practices. Exploring how resisting the mind can make things worse and exploring mindful attitude 5. BEGINNER’S MIND Encouraging more graceful mindful movements & introducing the beginner’s mind 6. WILLPOWER Introducing the concept of willpower and encouraging their interest & excitement in this 7. BEING GRATEFUL Exploring what it means to be grateful & how it relates to mindfulness. Practicing the cultivation of gratitude 8. APPRECIATING OTHERS Exploring deeply the relationship between mindfulness and appreciation. Cultivating appreciation towards other people 9. OVERVIEW OF TEACHING SESSIONS SUMMER TERM 2017

OVERVIEW OF IMELDA’S QUALIFICATIONS AND TEACHING EXPERIENCE Qualifying from St. Angela’s College, Sligo in 2015 with a Master of Arts Degree in Leadership and Management for the Community and Public Sector from N.U.I Galway, Imelda achieved her Youth Mindfulness Teacher Training Certificate in April 2017.

Imelda first began working with primary schools whilst living in Wales from 2000 to 2005. She was Project Officer for Safer Routes to School at

Carmarthenshire County Council. After achieving a Diploma in Transport and winning a Welsh National Transport Award for her work with Peniel County Primary School in March 2005 she was also Runner Up in the U.K Transport Awards.

After moving home to County Sligo in 2005 she worked for 7 years as an Education Officer with the national Green-Schools programme from 2008 to 2015, implementing the new Green-Schools Travel theme. More recently in academic year 2016/17 she played a key role in initiating and leading a new primary schools education outreach programme PUNC 1x1, developed to promote engagement with the art collection owned by the people of Sligo. 10. MINDSIGHT Exploring the relationship between thoughts and emotions, and reflecting on the nature of thoughts

11. BUILDING OUR KINDNESS Continuing the cultivation of mindfulness and exploring how kindness and happiness interact

12. BEING A GOOD FRIEND Having fun during the mindful walking exercise and showing that to walk mindfully means to enjoy walking in the present moment. Explaining and practicing observing the three mental habits of craving, aversion and ignorance

13. BE AN EVERYDAY HERO Continuing the cultivation of mindfulness and reiterating the mutually supportive relationship between happiness and kindness

14. KIND ACTION Inspiring the children to carry out 5 acts of kindness and continuing the cultivation of kindness through the Sending Kindness practice

15. LOOKING BACK Reflecting on what learning has been the most valuable, meaningful & enjoyable throughout the Course

16. LOOKING FORWARD Reflecting on the kind of person they would like to be by thinking about the future. Ensuring the children finish the lessons with a lasting positive impression of mindfulness
