Dear parishioners, Today we celebrate the visitation of the Child Jesus by Magi from the East. They came to him bearing regal gifts that testify to his divinity and kingship; gold, frankincense, and myrrh. In the past, this solemnity was held in the same esteem as
Christmas, and in some places even more esteem, because it is a manifestation of the authority and divinity of Jesus Christ. We should remember with joy the Magi who came to visit our Lord, and take to heart the lesson that they provide. Not only do they show us that we ought to offer our best to our Heavenly King, not only do they demonstrate the reverence owed to Christ, but they also show us that preparation for entrance into the presence of God is the work of a lifetime. The Magi read the signs in the sky which told them that a great King was born in Israel. To be able to interpret such signs, or even perceive them in the first place, would have entailed a lifetime of training and practice. Indeed their title, Magi, tells us that such activities defined their very lives. When the time comes for us to enter into the presence of the King, will we be prepared? Under what title will we appear? Mother? Father? Welder? Lawyer? In the end, there is only one title that matters: Catholic Christian. May we spend our entire lives culti-vating this identity, so that we might be found worthy when we stand in the presence of the Lord at his return.

él con regalos reales que testifican su divinidad y realeza; oro, incienso y mirra. En el pasado, esta solemnidad se tenía en la misma estima que la Navidad, y en algunos lugares aún más, porque es una manifestación de la autoridad y divinidad de Jesucristo. Debemos recordar con alegría a los magos que vinieron a visitar a nuestro Señor y tomar en serio la lección que nos brindan. No solo nos muestran que debemos ofrecer lo mejor a nuestro Rey Celestial, no solo demuestran la reverencia que se le debe a Cristo, sino que también nos muestran que la prepar-ación para entrar a la presencia de Dios es la obra de toda una vida. Los magos leyeron las se-ñales en el cielo que les decían que un gran Rey había nacido en Israel. Ser capaz de interpretar tales signos, o incluso percibirlos, habría supuesto toda una vida de entrenamiento y práctica. De hecho, su título, Magos, nos dice que tales actividades definieron sus propias vidas. Cuando llegue el momento de entrar en presencia del Rey, ¿estaremos preparados? ¿Bajo qué título fig-uraremos? ¿Madre? ¿Padre? ¿Soldador? ¿Abogado? Al final, solo hay un título que importa: Cristiano Católico. Que pasemos toda nuestra vida cultivando esta identidad, para que podamos ser considerados dignos cuando estemos en la presencia del Señor a su regreso.

We extend our deepest thanks to the faithful for helping us achieve our goal! We are confident that the small bal-ance remaining as of this early bulletin submission time will have been paid by December 31. Congratulations to us for achieving this tremendous success amidst such unsettling times. Any amount paid over our goal will be returned to the parish by the Archdiocese and will be used to support our many ministries. This goal amount is assessed by the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston based upon the income of each individual parish.
How is your contribution spent? The Diocesan Services Fund (DSF) helps all of us fulfill Christ’s mission here on earth by supporting those pro-grams and services that cannot be accomplished by one parish alone. More than 60 programs receive all or part of their funding from DSF, and all funds are spent within Archdiocesan boundaries. The broad areas of ministry that receive DSF support include: Catholic education of children and adults; pastoral ministries for the sick, the poor and the incarcerated; the formation and education of church leadership; social service programs such as
How does DSF benefit our own parish? DSF benefits our parish in many ways, from training and supporting Archdiocesan priests and deacons, to training pastoral councils and catechists, to supporting the parish and the many ministries within the parish.
How may I get a letter for my income tax? Acknowledgment letters are sent by the Archdiocese at the time a pledge is made. All gifts equaling $100 or more are sent a tax letter at the end of January following the tax year the donation was given. If you do not re-ceive a tax letter please email [email protected] or call 713-652-8284 and request a letter.

CDA Court St Elizabeth #1616 Fundraising
The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court St. Eliz-abeth #1616 continues to collect aluminum pull tabs from soft drink cans, fruit cans and the like to help with the fundraising efforts of Ronald McDonald House (RMH) in Houston. RMH provides housing for families whose children are undergoing treatment in the Texas Medical Center. Sandy Myhre leads this effort for our Court. Tabs may be brought to any monthly meeting, given to Sandy or any Court Officer, dropped off at the church office or the CDA gift shop. Thank you for the continued support of this worthy cause.

Parish Thanks to the Sealy KC’s and the KJZT Last weekend on the Feast of the Holy Family, these or-ganizations distributed Holy Family Prayer Cards and a container of Holy Water in honor of this special Feast Day. What a beautiful way to end 2020 and usher in the new year. We extend our deepest appreciation!
