Deacon Al’s Corner ~
Congratulations – On November 12 Giana Marie Foglia
was baptized. We welcome Giana to our parish family;
and congratulate her parents Mackenzie and Jacob.
Advent – other words for advent include “arrival” “start”
“beginning.” For Christians Advent it is a time to prepare
for the “arrival” of Emanuel, God with us. The Gospel for
today, the Feast of Christ the King is the final judgement.
It reminds us once again that we need to prepare for the coming of Jesus, the coming of
the end times when we will be judged according to how we treated people in need. There is
always a good deal of secular preparations for Christmas like decorating, shopping and card
writing. The true preparation, the preparation suggested in the Gospel, involves our actions
towards those in need, the hungry, the sick, the lonely and those in prison.
Shepherd – the Shepherd’s job is to take care of the sheep. My responsibility as Parish
Life Director is to make sure you are all cared for. I am very grateful for all the staff and
volunteers who help me with my tasks as shepherd. With over 400 families there is always
a lot to do. I pray we are not missing anyone.
Little Blue Books – In order to help us all have a prayerful and productive Advent Season
we have provided the Little Blue Books which contain daily reflections for each day during
Advent. Please take one home and use it to prayerfully “prepare” for Christmas.
Vocation Ministry— “Come, you who are blessed by my Father. Inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me
food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” This is the message for all Christians but as a devoted priest, deacon or consecrated religious you have much more freedom and opportunity to do these loving practices. Come and see! Talk with Father Rutherford, Deacons Al and Mark or the Sisters in the
parish; they will help you in discerning God’s call to you. Please, pray for an increase of Religious vocations!

November 26: No AM or PM Faith Formation Sessions There will be no AM or PM sessions on November 26 because of the Thanksgiving break. Sessions will resume at the regular time on December 3.
A Birthday Bag Surprise…Not Just for Children!! Recently, a Food Pantry volunteer shared a lovely story with us. One week, she asked the clients if any of them had children with birth-days that week. An elderly gentleman shared that he had a birthday that week, but didn’t really need a birthday bag. Our volunteer insisted and he took a bag home. Afterwards, he told her what happened as a result. He mentioned the bag to his daughter and she offered to come over and make the birthday cake for him. They chatted while the cake was in the oven and shared some of the cake together. He said the cake baking brought back memories of his wife…he hadn’t enjoyed the smell of something baking since his wife died. Even the crayons and coloring book were a bonus. They gave him something to do, helped fill the time and he found he really enjoyed it.
We thought we were putting together the birthday bags for children, but God showed us His vision, love and compassion are much greater than anything we could ever imagine.
Sunday, December 3: Advent Breakfast, Elves’ Attic, Family Mass Breakfast will be served to our young people in the AM session at the Parish Life Center during our regular morning session. We will also have an “Elves Attic” at that time for our Faith Formation children. Christmas items will be available for purchase from $.25 to $1.00. To round out the morning, our young people will sing the closing song at Mass, “We Are Marching”.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word (CLOW) Following the opening prayer at the 11am Mass, Father will invite all children from Pre-K to grade 3 to go to with our catechists to hear and discuss the readings for that Sunday’s Mass. They will return to you in the church after the Prayer of the Faithful.
Older siblings may participate in a different role as helpers to Mrs. Pontari. She also welcomes parent’s help. If you would like to accompany your little ones and see what it’s all about, please feel free to join them.
