Support and Resources April 27, 2020

We recognize that there are lots of

questions concerning refunds for can-

celled activities, missed lunches, as

well as student belongings still in the

school building—in addition to ques-

tions about end of the year activities

and 8th grade graduation.

Rest assured we are working on solu-

tions to all of these concerns. I have

been in contact with staff members, par-

ents, Fr. Bob and the Catholic Schools of-

fice as we work out the details.

confines of the State Safety directives that

are still in place. More information will be

If you regularly check into any social media platform, there is a good chance that your social media feed since the end of last week has been filled with family, friends, and acquaintances alike sharing their sadness, sense of loss and feelings of uncertainty at the closing of the school buildings and the loss of many things we would typically look for-ward to at this time of year. As adults we feel concerned over the economy and fi-nances, the health of our loved ones (both near and far). We may have family working to care for the sick or bring supplies to stores. We want to enjoy the ap-proaching spring with lengthening days on the sports field or plan family vacations for summer. It seems that this time of the COVid

-19 virus fills us with confusion and

uncertainty. Sometimes we are un-

sure of what is fact or fiction, real or

imagined, true or false. We hear

about issues or programs from one

source and then find we may not

have the complete information.

Whisper down the lane occurs and

the starting information ends as a

totally different story.

I would imagine that to some extent

that is how people reacted to the

news of the raising of Lazarus and

the resurrection of Jesus. Incredible,

incredulous, unbelievable, untrue,

imagined – these adjectives and oth-

ers may have caused people to think

both events were fake news.

But we know otherwise. We know

because we were told by a

witness of both events. St.

John writes, “It is this disci-

ple who testifies to these

things and has written them,

and we know that his testi-

mony is true. There are also

many other things that Jesus

did, but if these were to be

This week, let us revel in the

wondrous Gospel passages of

Easter by taking time to reread

them and meditate on them.

In response to the extended school closure and these uncertain times, I wanted to reassure all IHM families and staff that I will continue to provide school counseling services.

Guidance Classes K-4 students have already received ten Social/Emotional lessons which were emailed to parents/guardians at the end of March. I will email additional lessons as our homebound instruction continues. All activities are optional. 5-8 students have assignments updated in the Google Classroom each Monday. In addition, all students received an email from me which included a login for the next unit, Character and Leadership, which will begin the Monday after our Easter Break. Written work and quizzes will be graded for the grade 5/6 students and can be seen in Power School after entered. Students who are struggling to maintain their core academic classes may be exempt from the grade. I do not grade the 7/8 students.

Parent Support I will continue to update the “Counselor’s Corner” each week. I have also added a Facebook Page, “Spartan Support” which will also be updated weekly. Information on appropriate referrals, such as outside mental health agencies and therapists will be available upon request. An Emergency Resources information link will be added to the IHM website. As always, I can be contacted through email and will be checking it daily. If a phone call is preferred a mutual time will be scheduled. If a virtual meeting is needed, it will also be scheduled. I will do my best to maintain the ethical/legal protocols of confidentiality, however, in a virtual setting they cannot be guaranteed.

Student Support All academic concerns will be addressed as needed. They may include interventional support addressing online learning and mediating problems. Emotional support will be addressed for the 5-8 students. All students have a “Spartan Support” form in their Google Classroom to complete as an online social/emotional wellness check-in. Shared concerns may result in additional contact with the student either through email or a virtual meeting. Parents will be contacted prior to any scheduled virtual meetings or ongoing emails. I will do my best to maintain the ethical/legal protocols of confidentiality, however, in a virtual setting they cannot be guaranteed.

My goal during these times is to continue to be the best advocate for your child, your family, and the faculty and staff of Immaculate Heart of Mary School. I pray that we will be together again soon. Sincerely, Mrs. Terry DeLorbe

Heard of Artsonia??

Artsonia is the world’s largest student art museum,

yet it’s so much more than that. It’s a safe, educa-

tional program designed to connect parents and

families with their child’s creative activities at school and home. Art-

sonia is a digital portfolio for your child’s artwork that can be accessed

indefinitely. By giving parental permission to post artwork, I can assure

you that their picture and no personal information will ever be pictured

on the website and their identification will never include a last

name. You can invite family and friends to join your child’s official “Fan

Club” and they can leave positive comments about your child’s art-

work. Parents review and approve all comments before being posted in

your child’s gallery. New artwork is often uploaded at school, by you can

upload artwork with your smartphone that you may have sitting around

the house. If you have a lot of artwork, it is a great way to store images.

If your child is not signed up for Artsonia, please consider doing

so. https://www.artsonia.com/parents/ There are directions on how to

sign up on Mrs. Forwood’s school notes page. To upload artwork from

home, go to https://www.artsonia.com/class/ You can also support the

arts program by purchasing custom keepsakes of your child’s art. The

school arts program receives 20% of your purchase towards art materi-
