Good News Letter September 2016

An update on our shut-in’s

From the desk of Pastor Ferch…

There is no greater responsibility and joy for

the shepherd of God’s flock than to bring the

Word of God and His sacraments to the sick

and homebound. I have been blessed to

have been your shepherd for just over two

months and as I continue to grow into the

position of shepherd, I do so with great

humility.

As many of you know, I make visits to our shut-in’s and homebound on Tuesday and

Thursday afternoons. I have had the privilege of meeting with almost all of our shut-in’s two

times by now. It has been a joy to get to know the “other” members of our church family, to

hear their life stories and about their family and careers.

With each visit, the Word of God is rightly proclaimed and absolution is proclaimed. Let me

not forget, we joyfully share in the meal that Jesus has prepared for us in the Lord’s Supper.

Also, I am pleased to announce that many of our shut-in’s have been worshiping alongside

you and I each and every Sunday morning. How? Thanks to the tech savvy mind of Mr.

Conger, our Sunday morning worship service is streamed live via the internet. That can be

found by either logging onto the church website, http://www.immanueldavenport.org and

connecting to the Facebook link or connecting directly to Facebook at

https://www.facebook.com/immanueldavenport/

Until next month… God’s Blessings, Pastor Ferch

News from the Church Boards

Board of Elders – A reminder from the Board of Elders

(Taken from The Lutheran Church Missouri Synod Web Site.)

Belief and Practice With the universal Christian Church, The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod teaches and responds to

the love of the Triune God: the Father, creator of all that exists; Jesus Christ, the Son, who became

human to suffer and die for the sins of all human beings and to rise to life again in the ultimate

victory over death and Satan; and the Holy Spirit, who creates faith through God's Word and

Sacraments. The three persons of the Trinity are coequal and coeternal, one God.

Being “Lutheran” Our congregations accept and preach the Bible-based teachings of Martin Luther that inspired the

reformation of the Christian Church in the 16th century. The teaching of Luther and the reformers

can be summarized in three phrases: Grace alone, Faith alone, Scripture alone.

Board of Trustees –

Board of Social Ministries –

Board of Evangelism and Stewardship –

Board of Youth –

Board of Education – The Board is concerned about our Sunday School attendance. We are

asking for prayers and suggesting the prayer in the back of the Portals of Prayers for this program.

Our kick off Rally Day will be September 11th , 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., with games, prizes and ice

cream.

We are looking for adults willing to help the younger children playing picture bingo on Rally Day.

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not

turn from it Proverbs 22:6 Sharon Evans, Chairman

Preschool News

Immanuel Preschool & Child Care Center

“Learning with Love”

This year we have 11 registered for preschool; of these 3 are also in childcare! For school

age we have 1 registered for childcare (this is for care when school isn’t in session), 4 in

afterschool care. This means we have 16 registered students.

So we have 8 preschoolers on Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays; and 6 preschoolers on

Tuesdays & Thursdays 8:30 – 11:30 am. We have a few opening left and are still currently

registering for 2016-2017, if you know of anyone who would be interested in hearing more

about us let me know!

During the summer my granddaughter Cora, has been working as an aide and will continue

working 3 hours a day Monday – Friday (9:30 – 12:30 this helps us stay in ratio for when lunch

is being prepared). She is a senior this year and is homeschooling so she is available to continue

working with the preschool. Lynne Sawyer is coming back working 3½ hours a day on Mondays,

Wednesdays, & Fridays. (8:00 – 11:30 this also keeps us in ratio). As we will have three staff in

the classroom for some days during that time, I will be able to work outside of the classroom

doing needed paperwork to get us to qualify for 5 stars in Iowa’s Quality Rating System.

We received the $5000 from our second grant, so soon we will be purchasing new equipment

for our Outdoor Classroom, also indoor equipment and starting new marketing strategies.

Family Play Day will continue once a month and our next one is Sunday, September 25th 2-

4pm. This is a free event for families, great way to connect with your kids and take advantage

of all the great toys and equipment we have!

SaveAround Coupon Book Fundraiser we have coupon books available for $20.00 each, we

receive half of every book sold. If you would like to see a copy there will be one available in the

Fellowship hall on Sundays. This fundraiser is from August 25 – September 23, so get your

coupon book soon.

Keep bringing in your receipts from Rockingham Hy-Vee as this fundraiser is on-going.

Please keep the preschool in your prayers as we are a great outreach into the community.
