About the Course: Income Tax Departments are constantly faced with the spectre of computer,

operations systems, algorithms, programming code, and other tech-manifestations- savvy individuals, syndicates and organizations using their talents in stage-managing market and accounts rackets of

varied kinds including accounting manipulations and/or deletions, gaming of markets, transfers of money

and non-monetary (intangible) assets, theft of trade secrets, theft of or destruction of intellectual

    property, hacking, and fraud.

This Course aims at enhancing the quality of Investigation during and anterior to Assessment and during

and consequent to Searches through effective understanding and use of Computers and Computing

tools, Information Science and Forensics. Besides placing Tax Investigations in perspective against and

within Computer Systems, Networks, Information and Knowledge Management, topics discussed will

include Computer Forensics that is the application of computer investigation and analysis techniques in

the interests of determining and preservingpotential legal evidence. Investigators today can draw on an

array of methods for discovering data that resides in a computer system, or recovering deleted, encrypted, or damaged file information. Securing and analyzing such electronic evidence is a central

theme in an ever-increasing number of conflict judicial situations. The idea is to provide participants the

necessary skills to identify manipulators/intruders footprints and to properly gather necessary evidence

to prosecute in a court of law. Knowing these will unleash considerable potential amongst officers,

especially those of greater technical and investigative acumen, depth and speed, beneficial impacts in

lateral areas such as Assessments, Court/Tribunal hearings and processes, preventive surveillance and

intelligence-gathering and management of Departmental systems and amongst the lay public, of

awareness and wariness of Departmental strengths and intent in the stated areas.
