Poetry workshop report Mr and Mrs Porter introduced themselves, Mr Porter introduced what he was going to talk about: “performance poetry”. His subject was “Inspiration”. One of his tips was: “write a short piece, three/four lines long, then add to it and revisit, adding a couple of lines each time.” Ten minutes in and Mrs Porter started to speak. She spoke about onomatopoeia, how it can be used in lots of different ways and how effective it can be. We were then treated to an-other poem from Mr. Porter. His poem was about a journey from his home to his office and all the sounds he heard and the conversations that he encountered. He used several onomatopoeic words and it did have a brilliant effect. Towards the end, our task was set: “your task is to write a short piece of free verse”. Later, in our groups we had to put it to a drum beat...it was great!

A large number of younger children have read the amazing Anansi stories. Mrs Lucas planned the story and acted it out with students at Hall Mead who hadn’t even prac-tised. Some of us from IMPACT went to see the fantastic play. The play was outstanding and was full of comedy. If I had to rate it I would say: 100% good. The Anansi story was based on ‘Anansi and the Sky King’. Mrs Lucas has been practising the play in the library on Mondays and Tuesday. We had different people playing many characters. There were lots of year 7s which was nice to see. At the end of the show we could see that Mrs Lucas was very happy be-cause she had a bright smile and the crowd was clapping as well. Anansi is a very famous Afri-can book if you haven’t read the book then I suggest you get it now or read it to your family. Here are some pictures:

Amarachi: who plays the Sky King . She had the main role and she acted and sounded like a king. Josh: who played Anansi.

Tyler : played the bee.

Pictures by all the people who took part and Mrs. Lucas herself.

On the 16th of November this amazing charity runs a telethon helping lots of other children's charities. We think that this is the only reason needed for an article to be written about Chil-dren In Need. Many people have done some fundraising for Children In Need before; even including laying in beans and in ice! The money raised is distributed between organisations supporting children in the UK aged 18 and under who have mental physical or sensory disorders.

We hope this makes you want to do some fundraising, so here are some ideas OR you can use your own! -Bike for Britain: Set up a exercise bike in your town, chal-lenge people to ride for a period of time while others sponsor. -Lost: a bus with blacked-out windows takes you to a unknown destination you have to get back to your starting point with-out a smart phone or map (be careful with this one and do it with an adult). Jailbreak: teams must get to a certain destination spending no money at all. Hold your tongue: introduce a swear jar. To show your support go to the BBC website for a fundraising pack or just to donate. Please tell us your stories!

Students of Hall Mead were lucky enough to get some tickets to watch the Paralympics. Lots of students went in small groups on dif-ferent days in Au-gust and September. If you didn’t want to go...well sorry to say, you missed out!!

“It was inspiring ... What a great day”

“We went on the 5th of September with Mr Rogerson and Mrs Sharma. We had a great laugh and I've never seen a McDonalds so big in my entire life!”

“The events were great and the at-mosphere was truly magical. We can’t believe it’s all over! Thank you for the once-in-a-lifetime op-portunity Hall Mead!”

Derren Brown is a T.V illusionist and artist that has recently brought out a new two part programme on channel 4 called ‘Derren Brown The Apocalypse’. This programme is de-signed all around this one guy called Steven who is lazy, does not respect his family and gets drunk every night. The day before Ste-ven’s birthday he believes that he is go-ing to a concert with his brother but on the way they experience a rough coach journey that ends up in him being knocked out and taken to an abandoned hospital...when the mind games finally begin. When he wakes up it is the day of his birthday and he has no idea what is go-ing on. Before this all happened, he was given hints of meteors moving towards the earth at an alarming rate. Steven had interviewed, for a part, for a new T.V show but he didn't know exactly what it was for. In order for him to not realise he was set up just for a programme, Derren had told Steven that he had failed the interview. Not knowing what was to come, Der-ren brown used hypnosis to get Steven to different stages and made sure that he was men-tally and physically capable to be a part of a fake apocalypse. Steven, soon came across three people that he had to take care of, this tested his leadership skills and how much he could care for people around him. The three people were actors and were trained to make sure that Steven made the right decisions and to guide him through his experience whether it was supporting him through tough times or leading him towards in-fected people. Derren Brown’s The Apocalypse was thrilling and an exhilarating programme to watch. But is there a limited to how far you push a person to the edge, to take someone away from day to day life, to take someone away from their family?

Why don't you watch it and let us know what you think?

It was so awesome that some people met Tomska!!!:D You can buy lots of things- everything is in MCM EXPO: from logos to comics to sonic toys and that is only just the beginning

By Ross Handley

You could go to Coplay and browse the stalls for many different anime/ gaming related items, some stalls are held by special people. On Friday, Matt Smith appeared at the convention and an actor from ‘The Walking Dead’ had their own panel. There were also some minor celebrities such as Team Tomska and one of the creators of the Cyanide and Happiness comics!

The MCM Expo was held in London on the 26th-28th of October this year! It is ba-sically a comic/Anime/Gaming conven-tion! :0D

MCM EXPO

This film is extremely brilliant with an unbelievable story line. The plot of Prometheus is a prequel of the film Alien. It tells you, with its amazing story line, how aliens were created and how deadly things have now become.

The entertainment in this film is absolutely great. This film has such good suspense, it kept me on the edge of my seat. This film’s entertaining aspects are one of a kind, and it will keep your pupils open throughout the whole entire swashbuckling journey. WATCH THE MOVIE NOW!

The end bit of this film is mind-blowing. The climax is in-credibly twisty which makes the film great. To understand the end bit you need to watch ‘Alien’. The ending will blow you away!

Film Corner

Genre; Action, crime, thriller Certificate; 15 Rating; 8/10 Before the review starts, I must just say this film is amazing! The action is superb and frequent. The main characters are a little girl called Mei, who has a massive memory. She is being forced by Chinese gangsters and Russian gangsters to remember a code to a safe, containing three mil-lion dollars. The other character is called Luke Wright who had a run-in with the same Russians earlier. Soon he protects little Mei after he witnesses her kidnapping. After a while, they form a bond. Some people see it as a dumb action movie but it’s much, much more. The film shouldn’t

work...... but it just does.

If you have seen the first one you will know the plot ! This time, the plot is quite average and loses marks for not being original. This time around, the people from the first film come and kidnap the main character and his wife in Istanbul. When he finally escapes.... he must save his wife.

The characters seem a little underdeveloped this time around and seem to be a little more fake in the intimate scenes. There also seems to be an awkward atmosphere that ruins most of the early scenes.

The action is outstanding; my favourite sequence is either the taxi chase or the extended fight sequence near the start. After the first twenty or thirty min-utes, the action occurs at regular intervals until the end.

Plot: 7/10

Characters: 6/10

Action; 9/10

Nearly everyone knows about the Bourne trilogy and lots of people were very reluctant about an-other actor and classed it as a remake. It’s not! The Bourne legacy is a reboot of the amazing series with a new actor and different story. The new pot is basically about medically enhanced agents .

The characters are well formed and portrayed well by the actors. How the two main characters meet and need each other, is quite unique and different. Jeremy Renner plays Aaron well and seems very involved with the stunts.

The action mostly takes place in the middle and towards the end. The ac-tion sequence in the middle is good and mostly takes place around a coun-try called Manila. The action sequences at the end are a couple of rooftop chases and a very exhilarating motorcycle chase.

Hall Mead has many girls’ sports such as netball, hockey, foot-ball, trampolining and many more.

Every Wednesday night and Friday lunch-time, netball has been taking place with Miss Bailey. The girls are hav-

ing lots of fun training and soon we will have a squad! The house matches have ended and here are some of the

scores: Chapman have won 2 of their games, but lost 1 to Dickens.

Also, the girls’ football has begun! Football is not just a boys’ sport it can be a girls’ sport too. Come and join us on a Wednesday lunch on the field

for the weekly training sessions. Our first home match was a success, win-ning 9-2!!!!! We also won an away match at St Edwards 10-0!!!! We have

some more under 16 matches on 22nd November, 3rd December, 11th Febru-ary, 25th February. Furthermore, there is a year 7 tournament coming up.

We wish all the girls a massive good luck! (not they’ll need it!)

Miss Tucker runs a girls’ hockey club every Monday Lunchtime. Miss Tucker is very excited about the team as they show real talent and promise

for the forthcoming season. Hall Mead has a brilliant team of year 7 trampoline stars, who have got

through the trials and are training with Mr Lewis every Wednesday lunch. Some other lucky people were chosen (from the trials) to attend Monday

after school trampolining sessions with Mr Lewis.

Cricket is run by Mrs Morgan every Friday night, but we need more people to join as we don’t have enough to enter the cricket games. We have lots of

fun and all abilities are welcome. Remember we have our very own sporting star Amy Marren, who took

part in the Paralympics! If there is not a sport for you, the fitness suite is available at lunchtime and after school.

Come on girls....we can get fit and have fun at the same time!

Storyline: 4/10

There is not that much of a storyline I'm afraid. The game is based around an urban myth and legend about a ghostly figure called the slender man. You are trapped in a forest with a flash-light and you have to collect 8 ‘pages’ (see bottom) that are hidden around the map.

Game play: 9/10

The game play is very unique and gothic. Your flashlight has bat-teries that need to be conserved. You have to collect the 8 pages before the Slender man gets you. When you look at him, your screen goes static and a scary static noise plays. When you look at him for about 5 seconds, your screen goes completely static and you lose. Also, if he gets close enough, he can even turn you around to look at him...a little scary some might think.

Extra Bits: 6/10

There are a few extras that can be unlocked after you beat the game, by collecting the 8 pages. Once you beat the game in nor-mal mode, you unlock ‘daytime mode’ where you can play in the day instead of the night. Once you beat the game in daytime mode you unlock ’20 dollar’ mode this is a strange game mode because when you look at the slender man, a song plays that con-sists of a man rapping about $20 . Very weird but funny!

By Noah

Page 13: Impact 4

Storyline: 9/10

Amnesia is a game similar to slender (previous page). The storyline is about a man named Daniel who wakes up in a ‘type’ of castle without any memory of who he is and where he is. As you explore the castle, you find out that you are not alone!

Game play: 8/10

It is a first-person horror game with an array of plot twists and secrets. While Slender makes you jump, Amnesia sends a shiver down your spine with the sound effects and scenery. The gripping storyline makes you want to play on and on. The castle constantly has creepy happenings like doors swinging open on their own and candles suddenly going out. You have to keep lighting tinderboxes to keep out of the dark.

Extra Bits: N/A

As far as I know, there are no extras at all but the main story-line is enough to keep you playing for weeks!

There are many great new features in Fifa 13 which make the game more enjoyable and exciting. These include: the better graphics; first touch control to make your first touch of the ball harder to control and fast free kicks to surprise your friends. They all make the game much more enjoyable and fun.

New Features: 9.9

Game play: 9.8

Extra Bits: 9.8

By Zach

The Fifa ultimate team feature is a great add-on to the full game. It is different to career mode as you work your way from a bronze team to a gold team. You can get players such as Messi and Ronaldo. You can play tournaments against the computer, online or against other players. As well as the normal difficul-ties there are also harder difficulties called ‘ultimate’ which most people would not be able to master. As well as buying players, you can get packs....... But who will you get?

You can do many skills in the game such as: throw balls, diving headers and even overhead kicks. You can do many celebrations like: somersaults, back flips and Balotelli’s fa-mous muscle flex celebration. In career mode you can be a player or manager. As a manager you can sign great players from around the world and be the England manager. As a player you work your way up from a nobody to a world class player. You can win The Champions League, Premier League and, new to FiFa 13, the World Cup.

The Darkening By Noah 8WH

I As I lay there, the sound of the sea filled my ears. I smelt salty water and tasted blood. I opened my eyes and slowly, my vision focuses. I am in a dark bedroom lying on the floor with a bottle in my hand. I manage to pick myself up ignoring the splitting pain in my head, as I stand up; I see that I am wearing a tuxedo with a red tie. My hands are red too, blood red. I examine the bottle in my hand, no label, nothing inside. I smash it on the floor as I see a slightly open door. As I limp over to the big metal opening, I get a strange feeling; it feels like fear but, more scary. As I open the door, I get the feeling again. This strange melancholy shiver down my spine gets me very worried. All of a sudden, I feel myself walking right down a two-way corridor. I have no memory of who I am, where I am and why I am here. But what I do know is that I am on some kind of boat. There are windows and out of them I can see the sea. Also, the boat I am on is constantly bobbing up and down and to be honest, I’m starting to feel a little sick. BUMP, “OW!” I smashed into a metal plated wall and fell to the ground. My eyes were somehow closed, why? I didn’t intend to be walking blindly. This is crazy; something is controlling me, making me scared and close my eyes. I start to sweat, as I pick myself up and try not to be scared. Suddenly, I feel something in my pocket, like a crumpled up piece of paper. I open it up and read it in shock. It is a note, a letter to me. From me.

Chapter II in next issue...

My sister lives on the mantelpiece is a must read book. The story is based on a boy called Jamie; he has a sister called Rose who died. They moved but the mum stayed in London with a person she knows called Nigel. Everything turns into misfortune. His dad gets drunk and violent, his mum is far away, his sister dyes her hair pink and.. well you’ll find out! I read this book and if I had to rate it I would chose 10/10. It’s a really good book and I would recommend it. The author is Annabel Pitcher. What will happen next? Buy the book to find out or copies can be found in the library!

Horoscopes

Libra 22nd Sep-22nd Oct

Sagittarius 23rd Nov– Dec21

Capricorn 22nd Dec-20 Jan

Leo, you are born in the summer so it is natural to feel the cold of winter during these months. Don’t be afraid to come out of your comfort zone because perhaps this season is the time for you to show your true colours, and be yourself in the times where you feel out of place.

Your friends or peers may be a bit annoyed with you for the time be-ing, but make sure to pull through and fight for what is right. (even if you are the person in the wrong) Also, ensure that your friends are the right people to be friends with. People say love is blind, but in this case, your friendship could be the blind thing.

Although the times seem hard, better days are ahead. In winter it is easy to focus on the dark nights instead of the happy, full days. As long as you stay strong, winter can be great! Don’t let the cold get you down!

Scorpio, the exciting times can distract you from your true talents. It can be easy to get caught up in the little things and forget to look at the bigger picture.

In winter, the nights are dark but there is always a promise of lovely, bright snow! Life can be challenging but in des-perate times, life always promises some glimpse of hope! Stay strong and be yourself!

Times may be looking bright! Focus on the positives and great things will come! It doesn't matter if things look dark, there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Rekindling old flames can be frightening, but it doesn't have to be! Revisiting an old hobby or remembering a great memory can be the best thing you ever do! If you liked it once, why cant you like it again?

Celebrations can be a great occasion to lift your spirits! It doesn’t matter if you let your hair down sometimes! It’s a great time to relax and realise what has changed in your life. You never know you may find something brilliant.

Cancer, a mountain of troubles is heading your way, including friendship and family troubles. Do not let these demons win! Try all you can to resolve prob-lems and do not let them make you unhappy.

Coming your way is a foun-tain of fortune. All that you thought was loss will be saved and happy. However, these good things will only come if you are patient and not forget those whom are most important to you.

Aries, misfortune comes your way. There are people around you who you do not realise how important they are to you. Soon those peo-ple will be lost. To prevent losing these people, show them the attention that they have not been receiving from you.

This winter you will shine to your full potential. There will be obstacles blocking your path, attempting to prevent you from succeeding, but you will find a way to overcome them.
