    By shar ing ideas, across borders and disc ip l ines, we canf ind solut ions to the interconnected problems that cause somuch suffer ing. Cl imate change is not just an environmentalthreat ; i t is c losely t ied to poverty. Poverty is not just aboutjobs, i t is d irect ly re lated to food secur ity . Food secur ity has animpact on health. Health affects generat ions of chi ldren.Chi ldren hold the key to our future. And educat ion can lead toprogress on a l l these fronts.”

    United Nations Academic Impact (UNAI) is an in it iat ivethat unites inst itut ions of h igher educat ion around theshared goal of us ing sc ient if ic inquiry , academicresearch and educat ion to further the real izat ion ofUnited Nations goals and mandates. The in it iat ive waslaunched in 2010 by then Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and br ings together over 1400 inst itut ions inmore than 145 countr ies to promote higher educat ion'scontr ibut ion to human progress.

    Members of UNAI are required to complete a minimumof one act iv ity per year in support of at least one ofthe UNAI pr inc ip les . In return for their act ivepart ic ipat ion, UNAI provides a p latform for connect inginst itut ions with s imi lar goals , serves as a resource forinformation on UN in it iat ives and act iv it ies of interestto the academic community , promotes the bestpract ices and research of UNAI members, connectsmember inst itut ions to UN entit ies who could benefitfrom their research and expert ise and invites UNAImembers to in-person and v irtual events.

  • Who can join?UNAI is open to accredited degree-granting inst itut ions of h ighereducat ion inc luding col leges, univers it ies , vocat ional andtechnical schools . A

    QDo you have to pay to be a member of UNAI?There is no charge or membership fee to jo in UNAI , and UNAIdoes not ask members to spend money beyond the investmentsthey make in the educat ion of students and research.

    What is expected of UNAI members?UNAI members are expected to engage in research, instruct ion,and other act iv it ies that advance the UN SustainableDevelopment Goals (SDGs) , are a l igned with the UNAI Pr inc ip lesand support the values and miss ion of the United Nations.

    Schools are expected to carry out at least one act iv ity per yearon campus that is a l igned with these requirements and reportedto UNAI . An annual act iv ity report is mandatory to maintain UNAImembership.

    How can I check whether my school is already amember of UNAI?The current l ist of members of UNAI can be found here. Pleasecheck this l ist before submitt ing an appl icat ion to ensure thatyour school is not a lready a member of UNAI .

    What organizations are NOT eligible to joinUNAI?UNAI membership is not open to pr imary or secondary schools ,Model UN organizat ions, c iv i l society and non-prof itorganizat ions, or pr ivate sector companies. If you are a c iv i lsociety organizat ion please check with the UN Civ i l Society Unitto see if you are e l ig ib le to aff i l iate with the UN through them,and if you are interested in Model UN please check the Educat ionOutreach Sect ion’s website for resources. If you are a pr ivatesector company interested in aff i l iat ing with the UN please checkthe website of UN Global Compact.

    If we have several schools and programs(including graduate programs such as law,business, or medical schools etc.) should eachschool join?No, only the main campus should jo in , and a l l programs offered atthe school are free to take part in UNAI act iv it ies under theumbrel la of the main school .
