Relationship with God

Set Apart for God1 Peter 2: 9-11:

• “9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. 10 Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. 9 Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul.”

It’s not easyIsaiah 53:3-6:

• 3 He was despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief; and as one from whom men hide their faces he was despised, and we esteemed him not. 4 Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 5 But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. 6 All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned – every one – to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

Who do you follow?Acts 5:27-33:

• “27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council. And the high priest questioned them, 28 saying, ‘We strictly charged you not to teach in this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and you intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.’ 29 But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than men. 30 The God of our fathers raised Jesus, whom you killed by hanging him on a tree. 31 God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit, whom God has given to those who obey him’. 33 When they heard this, they were enraged and wanted to kill them.”

• Why do you think we feel a need to fit in?• Are you living a life that shows the characteristics of Christ?

– (E.g. Can your friends tell that you are different, a Christian, without you telling them?)

• Do you spend more time with God or your friends?– (Would you want to be friends with someone who couldn’t find time

to hang out with you?)

Challenges

• Try talking to someone that you normally don’t hang out with

• Do your best for God, not for other people
