� When candidates comply with Artisan RPL Criteria they will be
registered and entered onto a database
• They will be registered for the ARPL process
• The candidate will then be Orientated
� The candidate will then have to be assessed according to the 3 phases
PROCESS FLOW
� The candidate will then have to be assessed according to the 3 phases
� Trade specific Knowledge
� Practical tasks related to the specific trade
� Workplace observation in production environment
� During the assessment phases a Portfolio of evidence would be
compiled, assisted by a ARPL administrator and a ARPL Advisor
� The ARPL Advisor would be a qualified tradesman and would be
conducting Assessments
� When the POE is compiled the candidate would be given feedback and
referred for gap closure if there are any gaps
� These candidates will then repeat the 3 phase assessment and have
their POE’s updated.
� If the POE’s meets the requirement, the candidate will be
recommended for Trade Test
� If the candidate passes his/her Trade Test, he/she would then
PROCESS FLOW Cont’d
� If the candidate passes his/her Trade Test, he/she would then
receive a QCTO “ Red Seal” Trade Certificate
� If candidate fails Trade Test, he/she would be referred for practical
gap closure after which his/her POE would be updated
� The candidate would be recommended for Trade Test and when
he/she passes and receive a QCTO “Red Seal” certificate

PILOT PROJECT LESSONS LEARNT UP TO NOW
• Development of Toolkits for different trades by industry
partners central to ARPL to broaden participation.
• Involvement and support for FET Colleges imperative in them
providing physical and human resources for assessing of the providing physical and human resources for assessing of the
Knowledge component, Practical component and Workplace
observation.
• Employer buy-in needed for the success of ARPL.
• Organised Labour participation and communication with
employers will assist in staff skills development and
improvement.

Rationale for Recommended Practical Venues
* FET College situated nearer to affected
workplaces are to be utilized and supported
* Where workplaces are far from FET Colleges, those
workplaces which has the greater number of workplaces which has the greater number of
candidates, would be approached to see if they have
training centres where the candidates in a particular
area, could be assessed.
* Where candidates from SOE’s are participating, they
will be approached for the possible use of their training
centres
